just got mine from lowyat

k40ab 2nd generation with the sticker 20 % cooler (dont know whether they really change the cooler inside or just add the sticker) rm 2020 without free gift...come with asus bag and mouse

install vista ultimate...and install all the drivers from the asus cd..all no problem..never install srs and other webcam software..coz it's useless for me.

all FN key working...and the power express auto detect and user select is working..bios set to power express .

idling temperature after 15 mins 77 Celcius

play street fighter 4 temperature goes up to 90 C..never stress it with PI..so dont know what the max temperature..

have a feeling this laptop only last 1 year then condemn coz of the heat.



Overall...good gaming laptop...speaker not good altho says altec lansing..sounds too soft....nowadays all laptop speaker not good already... quality build..so so ...compared to old asus f80q...

yes without modded....dont wanna mod it coz the hazzle of driver bug just because extra few fps juice and vista optimze startup without CCC and ATI tools.

display? can set or it will auto set..

when on battery if will auto set to 3200 before asking you to press ok...on power will be 4570.

can also manually select it also.

so my Asus ati driver consider bug free coz i just bought it yesterday. Latest K40AB with 20% cooler sticker.

there is one problem with k40ab... some user gets auto fan adjust......some get full blast fan even when it's cool

so urs the fan running max or auto?

personally i think this asus K40AB got driver or system bug. You guys can choose not to believe me ,but i personally believe so after running intensive testing. Asus k40ab has different problem with different batch.. from battery, fan , sound...

Asus F80Q is free from all these problems.

Furthermore Asus forum dont have K40AB topic at all.

Asus should update the K40AB bios from 203 to 204 and fix all these problems.

open the back cover and stick aluminium pieces onto it..

coz dell laptop and expensive laptop have those stuff..

i tested few laptop

k40ab on battery power saving mode, 50C ..fan running auto slow and fast
k40 ab on battery power saving mode 30C ++ when open up the back casing with fan running max


K40ab max performance when play games ,overall can reach more than 90 C fan running max
seriously, i dont know whether this is normal,but i say it's hot coz of the design of the laptop casing.

i think the heat issue is not from the AMD CPU, it's overall heat contributing it.

i have this k40ab,so i have my rights to voice out my personal opinion about this laptop... If one day play heavy games for 6 hours, i assume in 1 year time, sure got hardware failure

so far i dont dare to stress this K40AB with prime and atitool artifact scan


tested side by side with normal acer 4736z, stress it with prime and atitool.. overall 40C max.


Have dell 1555 the one with 4570...it's hot tho, but not as hot as k40ab...i open up all the back panel...full of foil sink to cool down.

So anyone here that willing to prove k40 AB is not hot, can u post the data?

using prime heat stressing and atitool artifact scan running both together?with casing close

when running prime95, make 2 folder...choose affinity 0 CPU and the other folder choose affinity 1 CPu to stress both core

use 1024 * 768 resolution..all low setting..confirm can play

mid setting also can..depends how many Frame rate u wanna get
if wanna get above 50 fps with mid setting..confirm cannot geh lar

k50ab bigger lcd heavier...k40ab lighter and small lcd..but both is 1366*768

i tell u ....very smooth..very fast...


maybe mine was a faulty unit...wait till other forummer test the heat first.

4736G and k40AB is different level and different market lar...put aside the 4570 ...

it's not a problem, it jz running hot...when play games..other laptop mostly the same
