In between C2D T5550 and T5600.

Please refer to http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Proces...ist.2436.0.html

It's normal, 8600M GS with GDDR3 is a CLASS 3 GPU whereas HD 4570 with DDR3 is a CLASS 2 GPU.

Pls refer to http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of...ards.130.0.html

corrected...

if u believe fully wat notebookcheck's data, u re so being misled...

at the very least, there's quite a lot of anomalies with the data in notebookcheck... once u average it out with the others, it's not accurate...

and also, benchmarks are never fair to AMD CPU, as most of those are purely number crunching only... the advantage of AMD is having much speedier response than Intel CPU, thx to the integrated memory controller, which maximise the bandwidth and lower the latency... in reality, a AMD CPU won't lose out to a T6000...

oh, and also, a 8600M GS GDDR3 and a HD4570 DDR2 both ve abt 3k 3D Mark 06... but of course, HD4570 will edge out, cuz it has a newer architecture to deal with the graphics...

of cos this is better.. in terms of graphic.. for processor.. turion still leads.. which this asus comes with athlon oni..

well.. i guess everyone in this thread will say.. k40ab FTW! lolz..

Added on August 11, 2009, 1:12 am

oh.. problem running xp era games?? so how u solve it??

im planning on getting those installed eh.. u make configure their compatibility??
*
nah... for AMD CPU, it's the speed that really matters...

CQ40 has Turion RM74 2.2GHz, which in real like is not much difference compared to Athlon QL64's 2.1GHz... it's not like Intel where Core 2 Duo got full spec, then Pentium got this stripped got that cut... the only difference between Turion and Athlon is the P-state only, which Turion consumes even less power when in sleep mode...

as for the games, well, i looked for those Vista mods to make them work... u can look around the internet for them... it's not that hard to find...

dis laptop very ez to get dirty..everyday have to clean up my fingerprint -.- btw .. when i using ac mode , my screen become brighter .. when battery mode become darker .. why so weird one
*
now all consumer laptops are glossy finish one la... can't help... clean frequently lor...

as for the LCD, most re designed this way, cuz they assume once u re on battery mode, u'll try to squeeze more battery power out... so brightness is reduced...

if u dun like, juz set the brightness to the way u like when in battery mode... the embedded controller will remember ur preference...

Hi Hi,

Another K40AB owner!  rclxm9.gif
Just bought it during Penang PC Fair.

K40AB - 320Gb (RM2099).
Upgraded it to max 4Gb RAM.

Nice thing about this ASUS notebook i just bought compared to Compaq is that even I bought the Linux/FreeDos version, ASUS still comes with its driver & software CDs. Really sweet...just install OS and then autorun the CDs given....Viola...up and ready to use! (Well, I did when to ASUS website to update the driver/software version)  rclxms.gif

Everything is working fine so far...though the whole bundle of softwares given in the CDs are kinda bloated (so I just installed the required stuffs and remove those like 'smartlogon' and etc).  sweat.gif

icon_question.gif Anyway, does any K40AB owners here knows if there is any manual (software/hardware) switching for wireless connection? I mean like Compaq, there is a button to ON/OFF the wireless connection..so does this K40AB have it?

Also, i checked my CCC, is it normal for it to show 4 types of display modes? There are 2 HD3200 and 2 HD3470 displays detected.
*
there are 2 GPU in K40Ab... the integrated HD3200 and dedicated HD4570... u can select which to use under BIOS...

Guys. A lil help please.

I fail to run F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin.

A popup screen appear saying:

Unable To Locate Component.
This application has failed to start because X3DAudio1_5.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

This is my 3rd reinstall. My current driver is HD VIA vt1708s.

Why ah? My friend use the same installer and it works fine.

try update DirectX...

Added on August 13, 2009, 6:56 pmas for the 4GB RAM problem, take not in Vista x86, under Computer Properties, it will still show u 4GB... but fire up task manager, u'll notice it's only abt 3GB or 3.25GB...

this is NORMAL... by rit any x86 OS will be able to address 3-3.25GB of RAM only...

MS made Properties to show 4GB to stop ppl nagging them that Vista "ate up" 1GB...

Even if you have 4TB RAM it still limited to 4GB TOTAL RAM period, no matter what system you use, the reason why there is variable 3~GB is because the other components in your PC that have their own memory like gfx card
*
theoratically, using 32-bit OS, it's 4GB max no matter how much RAM u ve...

but in reality, some memory space needs to be reserved by the I/O ports for their own use...

so in Windows (and also any other 32-bit OS that u may encounter), usable amount is only 3.25GB or 3GB (depending on chipset)... but in Vista SP1 Properties, it will still show 4GB...

What happen is when I switch away from Native IDE, I will face BSOD even when logging into Vista...

Can anyone help me on this matter? tongue.gif
*
ui think u installed Vista under Native IDE mode... that's y Vista never copied the AHCI driver during installation...

that's the only reason i can think of...

maybe try installing the chipset driver under safe mode??? not sure if it will work this way though...

anyway, dun need to be so troubled by it la.. afaik, performance difference between the 2 modes is minimal...

just install the webcam driver and it'll be fixed. driver can be found at page 46. or maybe 48.

Regarding the delayed load, i think its because of the Avira. u hav to wait till the umbrella at the tray open first before u can access any file on my computer. i hav the same prob also and i nvr know how to solve it. i dont think its about housekeeping though. anyone?

Guys. I have serious situation here.

Since i first switch on this laptop, i never bother anything bout the user account setting at the control panel. But just now, i clicked on it and created another administrator user and put up a password on every activated account. Then i see there are 2 administrators user, the one i just created, and another one i use to create the 1st one (which name cannot be changed. it is fixed as 'administrator'). Then when i restart the laptop, i cant by any way re-access the original administrator, only the new one is available to be selected.

Thus, i cant access everything in that user when im in the new particular admin acc. How can i access back the old admin? i need to print an assignment. must submit in half an hour  rclxub.gif

anyone running vista using asus power gear preconfigured power management. Change the lid to "do nothing when it closes". and when you close it, walk away and in about 5 - 10 mins, when you open back the lid, there is not display? Putting the computer to sleep and waking it doesnt even bring it back. have to shut it down and reboot.

Maybe i'll uninstall this power 4 gear thingy.
