My dad had finally decided to change his old bulky tv after for such a long time. He wants to get a 42" as our living room isnt really wide enough to set the tv and sofa apart.
budget will be within 10k probably, with combo set such as blue ray or surround system included. Any brand will be taken into consideration, thanks

PS: purpose of tv is mainly astro, no gaming, sometimes movies (will try to persuade him to watch blue-ray, old man doesnt really know about all these thechy stuffs)

Why not wide enough?...hang on the wall lah..

The Panny plasma TV Barricade recommended is good enough.

And since its your dad using, I recommend a no frills home theater system set.
Philips Sound bar HTS6100/98 or Philips Wireless HTS3578W/98 (one of the cheapest Wireless HTS)

But then...maybe your dad loves to karaoke...
Try HT-K5 + DVP-NS728

HT-K5..the no brainer Karaoke HTS...but it doesn't have a built in DVD...for that I recommend Sony DVD player.
http://www.sony.com.my/product/ht-k5
http://www.sony.com.my/product/dvp-ns728hp

Remember this...your dad is king in the house..so get what he wants...a simple system with Karaoke to operate.
Unless he is an audiophile or Professional Singer....that system is good enough.

So...what about you!
For really cool movies that is really FullHD...(not the upscale type of DVD player).
Try Media player WDTV or Xtreamer
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=572
But you need additional Hardisks, downloads etc.
Before you buy a Media Player, its best to do a search in Lowyat.net first.

If that is the price for S10, then it is cheap. Current selling price is about 3499 thereabout for S10 Plasma only w/o the blu ray player

Good price although I am wondering why they are throwing in a free HDMI cable since it does not come with any BD player. Oh well, FOC punya, take lor
