since 2 days ago, my 4mbs package has been stuck at a maximum speed of 30kbps or less too.
technician came over today, scratched his head and doesn't know what the problem is either...
As for this problem being caused by the undersea cable faults, i really don't think that's the problem because if that were true, we'd still have really good speeds locally. And my speed on the tm.net test site is still below 30kbps...
i hope i'm not being capped. i asked the technician, but he said there's no such thing as bandwidth cap for streamyx.

QUOTE(iipohbee @ Aug 22 2009, 12:09 PM) The poor TM technician can do nothing about it. If it\'s anyone that is to blame, they should go straight to TM provisioning and account server administration. They somehow resetted everyone\'s profile to 512kbps for no reason and it\'s going to cause their company\'s reputation if they don\'t get it solved. The 512kbps package subscribers won\'t mind but the higher tier and other isps buying ports from them are going to seek compensations. It seems they did obviously NOTHING yesterday to look into the matter and give us a good explanation. All they did was just receive calls and hoping that the day ends with the weekend just around the corner. As you said, the technician himself also scratching his head. This has NOTHING to do with undersea cable disruption and all their DSLAM ports are physically capped accordingly. I know when I took a look at my modem\'s config. page. It\'s your login account which is limiting your download speeds. Thanks for your reply, iipohbee. You mean they are being capped at the port level? That makes more sense since on my modem status page it still shows that my downstream is 4096 and upstream is 508. Makes you wonder if this is their sneaky way of stealing the bandwidth back from the people who won't notice it. Problem is, I doubt this has anything to do with the undersea cable faults, because those are international links. Because if it is, our local speeds and TMnut local speed tests should still be very fast. Dunno what's going on la. I feel like we kena bully. C'mon TMnut, don't do this, among all the other ISPs out there, you were one of the better ones. Please do everything you can to continue to be Malaysia's No.1 ISP. If you fix these problems, we at lowyat.net can give you better publicity than you can ever dream of. We are many.Imagine this scenario... TMnut Tech Department: Oh boss, we're in trouble, we've seriously oversold our packages and now have too many users and too little bandwidth, I think we need to buy more bandwidth if not the whole system will slow down to a crawl...!
TMnut Management: Aiya, easy onli wut... Just diam diam cap people who download too much la.
TMnut Tech Department: We've done that already, but these guys can tell the difference la. They go and complain on lowyat.net. Bising giler...
TMnut Management: Haih, nvm dun worree... I tell you wut, just cap the whole freakin' country. Then slowly uncap back the ones who complain la. Keep them happy for a while then after sometime cap them back again la. Some more we get extra bandwidth back from the people who don't notice and don't complain at all.
TMnut Tech Department: Wah. Good idea boss... You so cleber la. But you not scared they make some more noise meh?
TMnut Management: Of coz la. Dat's why I'm da bos. Let them make all the noise they want la, what choice do they have? They've been making damn a lot of noise since we started throttling a few years ago, what can they do? Now go sell some more. I need to buy a new helicopter to go to work.***Disclaimer: This is just an imaginary scenario. It is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to actual living persons, employees, or corporate entities is purely coincidental. The only reason why I wrote this script is because my internet connection is very slow and I have a lot of time on my hands since it now takes me 11hours to download a 1GB file. This post has been edited by rakuen: Aug 22 2009, 03:02 PM

QUOTE(san517 @ Aug 23 2009, 12:11 AM) Hi all, I have tested my account in Ampang , it seems working fine with 1.5MB, I stay in sunway and only able to get 50KB. I think it is affected by area. any sunway/subang user also experienced slow down(even to local site, to be verivy using speedtest.) yep, quite a lot of users from subang/sunway are affected... myself included

QUOTE(warez @ Aug 23 2009, 03:09 AM) I believe you get cap as well -.-" warez, can you confirm that TMnut is capping it's users? Many users claim that this is the reason why we're all experiencing slow speeds but no one can confirm that they're being capped. i asked the technician that came to my house today and he said it's not TMnut's policy to cap users. From what I read in TMnut's terms & conditions for Streamyx, they don't mention anything about a bandwidth limit. Streamyx packages are always labelled UNLIMITED (unless otherwise specified), so to suddenly cap their users without their knowledge or consent constitute a breach of contract. That would open them up to a world of pain and hurt from legal action from any or all disgruntled and unsatisfied TMnut users. This post has been edited by rakuen: Aug 23 2009, 04:34 AM

QUOTE(welwitchia @ Aug 23 2009, 08:05 AM) ^ I can confirm this because I was one of the earlier one that got capped but has since been removed from the capped username list after constant calls. I was told by the TM Maintenace center and a Lv 2 that my line was locked/capped at 50KB/s because I was "downloading too much".. But when I pressed them "how much is too much?", they couldn't give me an exact answer. So what am I to do now? Continue downloading at the risk of being capped again? LOL.. And if look at other threads, so many users are getting the same results from a local server.. that can't be a coincidence and definitely have nothing to do with broken undersea cables. Is it possible for me to call and request for them to uncap me? because i just got off the phone with one very, very stubborn and unhelpful technician. I just discovered something very odd and funny, he told me to go to speed.p1.com.my to test and i got my maximum subscribed speed which is 4033kbps and 418kbps upload. However when i go to speedtest.net or the tm.net speedometer, i can only get the maximum of 500kbps. The technician kept on saying that if i can get my maximum speed at the p1 website, my problem is settled even though everywhere else is still damn slow. I suspect the p1 speedtest is rigged. and that i'm being capped too then. i just wonder if the technician knows about it and doesn't want to help.
