Hi guys... would like to share some of my automobile shots in diecast form... they are all in 1/18 scale size... the aim is to make the cars to look as real as possible with the background... comments are well appreciated...

The 'cars' all .... no plate punya! Hahaha... Very real lah. But the Benz emblem seems a little 'too' tilted to me.

this is awesome.i love the details there.maybe better if u can tweak RAW files or try on HDR?

LOL thanks guys for the comments... really appreciate them! i know its pretty difficult to shoot these cars in order to make them look real... the dimension is totally not matched... once u focus on the car, the background will turn blur and vice versa... they are all in 1/18 scale size diecast car models... so yea

all these shots i was juz only using a Handycam for photoshoot... so image quality is not so good...

Try tilt shift photoshop technique to make it more real

Some of them have the right composition and scale ratio.

For example; the Corvette parked at the side and in the background you see a real car. That's one of the first few photo which look like can be pulled of to me.

maybe you must choose only real picture to attach here. what i mean is the car with the background, and looks like so real.

thanks for the comments guys... lesson absorbed! must not take with real cars at the background... as for real car, don think i can afford these cars in 1/1 scale... only 1/18 are affordable to me currently...

thanks! n nice shot on the RX-7 there! is that from Hotworks? looks great! was using Handycam last time, so image quality is poor... now switch to digicam le, so got bit confidence for current outdoor diecast photoshoot le!

Jason, is there a specific brand that have higher details than others? Im thinking of buying one, how much one of these car usually costs?

MR.Shiney: glad that ur interested in diecast... for high end diecast u can look for Autoart http://www.aa-collection.com/en/... as for the red M3, its produced by Kyosho, also a high end diecast maker... if ur in KL, guess u can take a visit to Berjaya Times Square since there is a Kyosho shop there as well... other high end diecast makers include CMC, BBR and Minichamps, price ranging from RM260 to over RM1000... but both Autoart and Kyosho should cost around RM300 to RM600, some even higher depends on different car models...

me too, I also have a range of 1:18 but after a while, it seems like taking to much space to display, then i start to collect 1:43 mostly from minichamps of merc and ferrari... stop collecting some years ago, after looking at your new collections,, gatal again and will start collecting them, cheers... really nice pics

wow, i really enjoyed this series, great work!

my 2 sens is to avoid placing on objects that are obviously not to scale, like fencing, wooden floorboards where the gaps, or metal studs. those are dead giveaways.

Then another tip: if you want background sharp and clear also, take TWO pix, one focus on car, one focus on background. In a real life car pix, in order to capture the right perspective, sense of depth of field you have to point at a real car and see what areas are sharp, what are blurr, then emulate that in your shot which you seem to have done quite well is some shots, but not in others. Angles POV also matter.

I agree, the BMW series of shots in Melbourne superb...

IMHO, I think one of the biggest giveaways that the cars are diecast is the paint. Light reflects off the diecast models differently compared to how they do off a real car.

But all in all, awesome idea and photos.

Isepunye: hmm... its a diecast after all... perhaps we have to purchase larger scale so as to make it look as real as possible... but i think ur hotwheels shot looks great (forget bout the realness), but u do have great background for the car...

p3nguin: yup, the body surface of the diecast is not as smooth compared to the real car... but no matter how much the effort to make it look real, its still a diecast though... unless we have better cams like the DSLR, perhaps tat could be a different story then...
