Hi everyone,
I want to ask about dividend. I read at a link in this forum and it says that we need to pay tax for dividend we recieve every year except for singletier dividend, we do not need to pay tax.

For normal dividend, when we get it, do we need to pay tax for it?

For example:
I have 1000units of GENTING and it pays 1st interim RM0.02 as dividend.
Then, I will get RM20 as dividend.

Do I need to pay tax for the RM20?

Please help.

i believe for all dividend from YA 2008 onwards, they are adopting single tier dividend which means u dont have to pay for the tax.

And to put it in more simpler term :

The cheque that you get in your mailbox, no need declare, no need pay tax
Why ?

It has been taxed at source .

I am a student investing in stocks. I earn dividend and I also earn capital gain. Since I am not working and the money come from my school loan, how am I going to declare it in income tax?

Since the dividend is already being taxed at the source, so I do not need to woory anything about taxation anymore right? I just get the dividend and no need to pay tax?

Please help me clear my doubts... rclxub.gif

You have answered your own doubt smile.gif

Yes, since it is being taxed at source, you do not need to worry about tax anymore.
Just get the dividend and do whatever you like with it.

Anyway, capital gain is never taxable in tax computation.

Open your account with IRB and declare the dividend, then you can get back the 25%.

Why we can get the 25% back? If they already taxed, then how come we still can get it back?

Because lowest tax bracket is 0%, + some relief also. But if you have other income (voluntary allowance doesn't constitute income, you can consider giving some as well) or your dividend is substantial.  drool.gif

Thanks. If I claim it back, how long will it takes for me to get the money back?

Previously you will have to write in for the money to be refunded back to you, but I heard nowadays they did it automatically, not sure how is the time frame, maybe someone else can help?

Hope someone can help. Need some explanation about it.
