Me too, been reading the reviews since it launched, and feel quite worried about the cons...
Many ppl have to do reset / flash which I don't really like to do to my phone.

I plan to buy from LYN trader, but wonder they will have the latest firmware installed, cos i noticed most of the problems is due to the old firmware.

Also, I like the White N97 very much, but heard that it will become yellowish after certain period of time.

And for the price, seems like it's getting lower & lower. Wonder if it will drop to RM2000nett soon tongue.gif

Regarding the lens scratches problem, I've read about some user's experience & found out that some N97 have the lens cover's cushion 'touching' the lens while some don't.
That's why it will cause scratches if it is touching the lens, more if it caught some dust.
So, make sure you check the lens cover's blue cushion by sliding it a few times to see if the unit is actually 'touching' the lens before purchasing it.

And regarding the 'phone keeps on restart by itself' problem, I've also read about it from a gadget magazine, that it MIGHT be caused of Virus.
This is especially if you installed some 3rd party / unsigned programs or have other people install stuffs into your phone.
Might consider getting a Mobile Anti Virus program.

Just a suggestion...

Just got my Black N97 2 days ago & have some question here:

Video Recording - Have anyone experienced blueish horizontal lines while recording & play back? The blue lines are very obvious especially when i record in a darker environment.

Garmin xt - Can't input symbols like / - using the touch screen. It will stuck at the symbol input screen & i cant exit the screen unless i open my keyboard where the Cancel/OK options available.

Guitar Rock game - no sound

Keylock slider - not working when the phone was auto locked. I cant unlock the phone no matter what i pressed or even opening my keyboard. Cant Off my phone too. Got to remove my battery & put it back to have the screen active again. I googled & found that many people experienced the same problem. Some suggested setting the autolock period to 2 mins.

Music player - does anyone knows how to stop the music during playback? Funny this N97 player doesn't have a Stop icon comparing to my older phone 5320xm. All I can do is just pause the music. Or is there any better music player available for download?

Does anyone have any opinion to my questions? Currently my software version is v11.0.021.

Thanks

White gets dirty easily & become yellowish after sometimes, especially the Dpad.

I love white but end up getting a black one cos i cant help thinking of how ugly it will be once become yellowish.

Btw, Black is cool... Especially if u have a black theme on the background & all the icons really stands out smile.gif

Can anyone tell me how to update / install latest maps for garmin xt?
Since my N97 comes with pre-installed Garmin xt, do i have to go through the steps @ 1st page of this forum (too many things to install), or is there any easier way i can just update my maps to the latest ones? How do i know if my maps are MFM or MSM?

If u charge from empty... i should take about 3 hours ++ .. So i think u are nearly done =)
*

It's still charging after almost 4 hours.
I then disconnect the charger & off my phone, then took out the battery.
Then on the phone & plug in the charger again.
After a few seconds, it gives battery fully charged alert. Funny.

Another weird thing is, the battery drained by itself!
I have 6 bars of batt indicator when i went to sleep at 3am yesterday.
No application is running that time.
The phone was in Offline Mode, and yet this morning at 8.25am, it suddenly gives a 3 beeps & showed low batt alert.

I've charged my batt for 8 hours when i bought it last week.
Anything i missed out on how to extend my batt life?
I read in some forum that the battery have to be fully drained before u charge it.
Some suggest to give it a 3 times full drain & full charge.

Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Me too~ me too~  rclxms.gif
I'm in front of my computer every night, thus I plug in the USB and charge it every night.
I almost never see the bar drop unless I use the GPR, watch a lot of video clip, record video etc...  smile.gif
Me too satisfied with the battery life, not a problem here.

Talking about video clip, is there any nice freeware conversion tool to convert the movie for n97?
I've tried some old video converter tools i have, but none is supporting 320 x 640.

Have any1 with batt probs, tried the handy tasman app? I installed it and was a real eye opener, discovered many apps still run in background inspite of exit, maybe you guys could try it out.
*

Yeah, i've Taskman installed yesterday & manage to closed some running progs. Hopefully my batt life last longer now.

You may try SUPER (http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html)
It's free, but I personally find it not really user-friendly...  blush.gif
*

Thanks, will try it.
Before that i've tried Videora N97 Converter and can't play the converted movie on my phone.
It gives video / audio error. Guess I got to uninstall it if it's not working for me.

Btw, have you found any more 'user-friendly' converter? smile.gif

If you are going to reset (reformat) your phone, make sure you back up everything 1st !

If u are unsure how to reset / reinstall everything back after the reset, better take it to Nokia Care Centre since it is still under warranty...

Any idea what is this ADMIN-D5701BA33

Just checked my Bluetooth settings & noticed there's a paired device name ADMIN-D5701BA33

I haven't pair my phone to any device since i bought it last week.

Feel like wanted to delete it but worried it might be something needed for the bluetooth connection. Or could it be virus?

Talking about virus, did u guys used any anti virus software? Any tips on how to avoid getting infected especially when using public wifi such as starbuck etc?
Thinking of getting Kaspersky Mobile Security, wonder if it will make the phone more lagging..

Thanks Mr.Lonely & shchiam1978, i've deleted it. Found out that it was just a device ID from the dealer when he test the phone for me during purchase.

Just to let all N97 users know ... New version of Nokia Software Updater is available now. As Nokia official news announced previously, new Firmware (2.0) will be available soon after NSU is updated.
*

Hehehe, i'm using the updated version of NSU now to download v12 now.
At first thought of skipping the v12 & wait till v20 was out. But after reading, found that it wont be release so soon.
Surprised that the update of v12 is 156.5MB. Guess I can't go to sleep before i finished fumbling with the updates.
Btw, i just did a hard reset to my phone. Happy that my C drive has more than 50MB of free space.

Video Converter for N97

i've tried a program called Xmedia Recode..it's so simple.. Just choose your Profile (Nokia, Iphone, Sony Erricson etc..) and select your model.. and let it do it's Job..no need to set the size, frame rate, audio sampling bla bla...the video quality is superb...give it a try will you..

Hey thanks! I've been looking for a good converter for days. This is a good one. Easy to use.

Only 1 problem, the file size is 3 times bigger after conversion. (original flv = 9mb, converted to mp4 = 27mb...)
Any idea how to smaller the file size without affecting the video quality?

If it makes the file size so big after conversion, i guess it will take up all the free 32GB of space after i convert 2 dvd movies which is 4.7gb x 3 times...lol.

Btw, does anyone know if N97 support Chinese character?

Some of my music files which has chinese song name cant be displayed properly in music player.

Instead of showing the song name in chinese, it shows all sort of funny symbols.

But there's no problem to create new message using Chinese input.
