is the N97 firemware out ?
*
Hi everybody, I'm new here... smile.gif

Just checked minutes ago...

FOTA = nope
NSU = nope

sad.gif

By the way, please add me to the Black team... wub.gif

Bought it about 3 weeks ago, less than an hour after I got the phone,
I already find something weird... Each time I unlock the phone, the backlight not come on.
So I will have to unlock --> lock --> unlock to use the phone...

The first thing I do when I reach home was to check for firmware update.
Then I saw v11 firmware from NSU, I then update it immediately and the above problem goes away~ rclxm9.gif

So far no big problem on my v11 firmware.
I reformat the phone (wiped phone memory & mass storage) after the firmware update,
remove all applications and widgets that I don't need such as The Star widget etc...
The phone operate quite smoothly... laugh.gif

Make sure you handphone is still connected with the handphone and you're online.
*
Hi Leo, I read from your earlier post and knowing you've changed your product code and successfully updated with the latest firmware... rclxms.gif

Today, although I am not really keen to change my product code, but I just would like to look at how this NSS thingy works,
so I downloaded NSS, installed... but NSS just failed to detect my phone~! Do you know why?

A little googled seems to shows that NSS not compatible with the latest version of PC Suite and/or NSU, is that true?

I tried download NSS 1.0.38.15, not working for me, then tried also the older 1.0.38.14, still no go~ sad.gif

Can you explain a little more detail on how you do that? notworthy.gif

My software detail as below:
Nokia PC Suite v9.23.3.0
Nokia Software Updater v1.7.3en
NSS Error msg: Scan for product... Error!

You sure NSS doesn't work? Have you tried the guide provided from online?
*
Hi Leo, thanks for your reply... and yes, NSS not working for me, or only on my computer~
I've tried so many combination of installation/configuration as describe on the Internet I found from Google~
The only thing I haven't try is to uninstall and clean all latest NSU and PC Suite~ too lazy for that~ blush.gif

But it is absolutely ok, maybe one day I can try install NSS onto another computer and try again~ thumbup.gif
As I mentioned, I'm not actually trying to change my product code (am too chicken to do that.. sweat.gif ),
just wanted to look at anything (code or numbers) regarding my phone that I've never seen~

By the way, I really did not encounter so many problems like freeze at NOKIA screen, hang when answering call,
system lag etc..., at least not yet after about a month of usage. Maybe the applications they installed causing problem?
So better check them out~
and opps, I'm still at V11 firmware~

Again, many thanks for your reply~ smile.gif

I just discover a "problem" with my phone today:

When composing a new SMS by flipping out the QWERTY keyboard, I cannot switch the input language to Chinese Pinyin.

Even if I go to Option -> Input Option -> Writing language -> 简体中文, it will switch back to English the moment I
select the menu command. (I can see a blink of Chinese input symbol changed back to English very fast)

So, to input Chinese in landscape mode, I will need to close the QWERTY keyboard, call out the virtual keypad in portrait
mode, switch to Chinese input (pressing #), then again open the QWERTY keyboard and start typing Chinese...
BUT, whenever I included any English characters, Chinese input gone again~!

To make landscape mode to really support Chinese input, I need to change the setting at:
Settings -> Phone -> Language -> Default input to Pinyin

But this become very inconvenient when I surf the Internet which mainly using English input~ icon_question.gif

If you didn't do a backup before reformatting, I would try to go Edit that particular WLAN access point & double-check the information entered.
Maybe you can try? smile.gif

the movie size 640x480 too small..  wat is the exactly size to fit the whole screen?
*
The full res. of our LCD is just 640 × 360 (16:9)?
Maybe you got a 640 × 480 (4:3) video, thus, you are seeing black-bar at both sides?
Even worst is, your video is 16:9 aspect ration that encoded in 4:3 letter box, you will get even smaller view in 16:9 display.

QUOTE(r47z @ Sep 4 2009, 04:30 PM)
i also got the n-gage and ovi contacts update via s/w smile.gif but haven't install yet cause i'm still waiting for my V12! sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif
*
I guess (just guess tongue.gif ) Nokia for our region want us to skip the v12 firmware and go straight to v20 when it is available~ laugh.gif
Maybe v12 firmware is a temporary fix for those region that the owner's return rate is higher?
Many US and UK consumer can return or exchange what they bought if they are not satisfaction.
For us? Haha... we will have to blame ourselves for making the bad decision whenever we bought something that not satisfied.
Anyway, most of the time, I find we got the lower price here, especially electronic goods... maybe?

QUOTE(daddoo @ Sep 4 2009, 09:37 PM)
Hi guys, check your slider to see if it is like this:
Video's here
*
I thought this is by designed? Don't forget the bottom part of the display panel is not hinged to the QWERTY keyboard.
Unless they use side rail to pull the LCD, otherwise, I think this is normal... at least I can accept it. smile.gif

The Social Messaging Beta is compatible with the N97 firmware version 12.X.024 or higher
and the 6700 Classic, and will not function correctly on other devices. We are working
to add support for more devices and more communities in the future. Keep following BetaLabs

Hi all,

I need some advise... smile.gif

I already set my GPS positioning method to A-GPS,
but why each time Garmin start up, it won't connect?

Nokia/Ovi Maps and Google Maps both can connect, but Garmin
seems just ignore this, which I think should speed up GPS lock, right? blush.gif

Then, how do I configure Garmin to connect at start up so it lock up with GPS faster? hmm.gif

Thanks~! icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyone know how to close the sound when we take a photo? Cause I want to take photo silently. Always out a sound de. zzz
*
Hi Leo, that will involved first hack your phone then have access to 101F8809.txt file inside Z:\Private\10202be9\ folder.
You need to edit this file etc...

However, there's another easier way to do this automatically, just by installing the patch.
It's no good for me to send the file here, so maybe you go to Google and enter CenRep101F8809 to search for the SIS file and more information.

Install the file, then edit your Profile to Disable Warning Tone.
That it is, by the way, the red-light beside the lens will still flashes whenever photo is taken.

What I did was create a new Profile called Mute Cam so it is easier to change Profile than always edit the Warning Tone.
I need the Warning Tone to be notify of SMS delivery report and other events. blush.gif

urm, bout installing the SIS file, izzit considered as hacking the phone? cz i duwanna void my warranty..
*
Installing that particular SIS file will modified a TXT file in your phone.
Just like some user modified their Windows System Registry for certain customization.
If you feel Nokia treat this as voiding warranty, then I would do a full reset (reformat) before sending in for any repair.
That will restore everything to factory default... tongue.gif

QUOTE(CapnMarvel @ Sep 9 2009, 04:15 PM)
Can we do it in N97?
As what i found here. it says that newer phone doesn't allow us to do it http://symbianism.blogspot.com/2009/04/sil...uired-with.html
*
Yes it works on my N97. smile.gif

The reasons that site said "doesn't allow" are:
That file need to access protected system folder (something like C:\Windows, C:\Windows\System32 in our Windows computer),
If you are installing any applications that require access to Symbian's system file/folder, you need to sign the application before you can install it.
If your phone have not been hacked, you are not allowed to install unsigned application that needs accessing system file/folder.
If you hacked your phone, you can install everything, no matter signed or unsigned.

If you don't want to hack your phone, yet, still install high capability application, just sign the application with high capability certificate before you install it.
You can apply/request a free certificate that have high capability, then use a free signing tool to sign the application before you install.

It's just a TXT file customization, you can do factory reset before sending in for repair right? tongue.gif

That's why lah, Always do factory reset.  shakehead.gif

Hahaha.... biggrin.gif

Actually... or maybe... if you are in the situation that you need to send your phone back to Nokia,
meaning it must be already screwed up... For some ppl, include me, will first do reset by ourselves
trying some luck to fix the problem. Send back to Nokia always is my last choice... tongue.gif

By the way, I did full reset, formatted C and E drive the first day I bought the phone.
Until now, although I'm still in v11 firmware, I don't have any problem like others mentioned here
such as phone reboot suddenly, hang etc... Can't sure if formatting helps here, but love the "fresh
start" feel... nod.gif

I still face the same error. Is there any other way to solve this?
*
Have you tried the following?
Menu → Settings → Connectivity → Destinations → Internet
Do you have any access point in there?
If not, maybe you can try go to:
Menu → Apps. → Sett. Wiz.
then create a new Access point setting there...

It's quite weird you said you can't disconnect an active WLAN connection?
If you go to:
Menu → Settings → Connectivity → Connection Mgr.
There is an option that let you disconnect your active connection.

Just try... try this... try that... laugh.gif

If you really, still can't find any solution to this,
why not do another reset of your phone, then do not restore your
previous settings
. Do it all over again, I think that should correct
the problem... blush.gif

Addition, after i did the hard reset and before doing the restore, the connection already giving me the prob
*
Wow~! Looks like it's more complicated than I thought... sweat.gif

Actually, what is your main problem?
Can you surf the Internet using that connection?
Or you just want to disconnect it?

I think you should know already, but just in case...
You said you cannot disconnect by touching on the
top-right screen icon, but you can disconnect the
connection at:
Menu → Settings → Connectivity → Connection Mgr.
You can try it here... smile.gif

then I will have problem place the phone in
my pocket... nod.gif

Wondering is my phone setting? In my old phone i can receive. I check the setting for message is correct also.
Then i also notice i cannot use 3G/GRPS to online also.

Do you have access point settings of your operator?

I'm using Maxis, when I go to Maxis website and request for phone setting, I got a message saying N97 is not supported yet~ shocking.gif
Give me an option to setup manually~ blink.gif

Then, I go to phone's Setting Wizard, that create all the necessary access point automatically~ icon_rolleyes.gif

You are right too~ sometimes I do feel the stylus quite annoying while putting the phone in my pocket.
Sometimes think of take out the stylus, I seldom use the style anyway...

The original pouch? I don't know why Nokia give this to us, I also don't know how to use it, it's too tight!
Pouch too tight + unlock sliding-button at the side of the phone = trouble~!

I have a cheap RM10 (imitated) black velvet phone pouch with zipper, I like it more than the N97 original pouch.
It even have small pockets inside that we can put business card... laugh.gif
