Hi, i'm a total noob on recording. smile.gif

I don't really know how to record guitar sounds to the pc. My first try was using some cheap mic in front of my amp into the laptop and using sound recorder lol.

Recently, i got one of those audio adapter's (guitar size > headphone's size) and i tried to plug it in directly. Since my amp has an effects loop, i tried using my amp's preamp section (guitar > pedals > preamp > pc). It worked, until i tried using distortion. I tried using an overdrive pedal and the recording didnt sound good at all. sad.gif The only plus side is that there was no noise. I used a software called mixcraft which was alright i guess.

So, my question is, is there a better setup for me to record the distortion better without spending too much money on an expensive microphone (or something else)?
