I've bought an RM18 USB->PSX/PS2 converter and dig up an old joystick (Pyscho Pad KO ) for the PSX....it works!!! Only thing is need a little remapping.

But the joystick not so nice, not heavy enough like thouse RM500 joystick...(well, it was RM1xx when i bought it i think).

I think i'm better off using gamepad + keyboard combo. With the keyboard, i can do ridiculous hadoken+dragon punch combo easily. But not so good in actually controlling the character and jumping around.

Still haven't go look for the Madcatz SF4 gamepad yet. Anyone found the Madcatz SF4 gamepad( XBOX360 version) anywhere?

Joysticks...

High End
MadCatz TE - About RM650-700

Mid Range
Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 (HRAP3) - About 300-400

Low end
I dunno.

You gotta think about current expenditure, but you can also think about long term use. For instance, getting the TE or the HRAP3 and you've got a stick to last you quite a while, and which already starts out at good build quality. Plus, they're both easy to mod.

humm,  but that time i really cornered, i jump also kena head stomp...not sure how to escape in that situation, any idea?
*
If you're in the corner, then Bison does head stomp while you getting up from knockdown, best is just block up..but if you're already standing, and Bison goes for head stomp, just dash forward and the head stomp will miss. Bison will be OPEN for punishment when his head stomp whiffs.

Other than that, please read my post on countering Bison's headstomp again: -

QUOTE(boogalogist @ Jul 14 2009, 02:38 PM)
If you FA, he can continue with skulldiver.

You can also do a standing block to block the head stomp, then jump back/neutral/forward & attack.

Bison's counter cross up is (late) teleport back.
*
Against ElF, if you have a teleport, do that to avoid his running dash mix up. Else it's either just block, FA or dash back (or some reversal escape move)

Block counters: -

1. body splash (must know whether ElF crosses up or not)
2. slide

FA counters: -

1. body splash
2. slide
3. ElF's grab from the running move (you MUST dash back while in FA to avoid this)

Dash back counters: -

1. ElF's grab from the running move
2. Run stop grab

Best option for me would be FA.

Those converters don't work particularly well with PS1 digital controllers. There's some response issue and quite a huge deadzone even when you've pushed the stick all the way. My stick is still fine btw. It's an Interact Arcaderex. I think even the Psycho Pad is an Interact product.

Thanks, dark.

I gotta try using those charging special moves as counter.

Also,

Is there really a lot of difference between Sanwa Arcade Stick and the Hori Stick?

I won't mind getting either one.

I have a question about characters that need to charge for normal special or super special moves (eg. Guile, Chun Li, Balrog and etc)

When charging (backwards), the opponent hits you with either a normal / special, this would usually break the charge (ie. if you try countering with this charging special / super move, it won't work).

Is there a shortcut or remedy for this (both on a keyboard and an arcade stick)?

Thanks.

While you're blocking a string, your charge will still be there...unless you try to interrupt the string with a very high priority special move.

Example: -

Bison does his BnB combo jump in hp, cr.lp, st.lp, cr.mk, scissors kick. (if the Bison player does it well without messing out any links in between)

1. You hold block, and block the whole string. You will still have charge at the end of his string.

2. You hold block, but do you do EX scissor kick (very fast start up with invincibility frames) in between cr.lp and st.lp. EX scissors kick will NOT come out, because cr.lp to st.lp still links even when blocked. (for more info, please check frame data). End result (provided you held back right after trying to do the EX scissors kick), you will be blocking the whole string, but you lose the charge because you attempted to do EX scissors kick at the wrong timing.

3. You hold block, but do you do EX scissor kick (very fast start up with invincibility frames) in between st.lp and cr.mk. EX scissors kick will come out and interrupt his start up frames of cr.mk. This is because in between st.lp to cr.mk, there is 1-2 frame gap where you can execute move. Reversal srk-happy opponents love to mash srk in between strings (which is actually a very bad habit...but let's not get into that). End result, you break his block string combo and hit him with a counterhit (but you spent an EX bar for it).

The example uses EX scissors kick as a block string reversal attack, but you can actually use ANY attack that has active frames on the 1st frame of the move, even non-EX moves (srk comes to mind).

However, this method is a very bad habit if you keep doing it, cause it can easily be baited. If you are reversal happy, the Bison will just do cr.lp, st.lp and stop right there, while you do your reversal (which will whiff), then Bison will just punish you. Btw, whiffed light srk can be punished with Bison's Ultra. cool2.gif

By Sanwa Arcade Stick you probably mean either the MadCatz TE or the HRAP3 Sanwa Edition. Both cost quite a bit.

I would recommend. Getting the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 first. It'll set you back about 300-400 (310 was the best price found for it so far).

Then you can use it for a few months, and save up to get the Sanwa buttons anyway, which would cost maybe up to 100? Depends on what buttons you want.

So...max price is 400 + 100 = 500. Still cheaper than the TE/HRAP3Sa but same button and joystick quality.

Btw, all three sticks uses Sanwa sticks as far as I know so no difference there. Only difference are the buttons.

The charge won't breaks if opponent do special move/normal moves/ultra as long as the enemy doesn't cross up you and you didn't let go the (back) button

usually when enemy cross up, you will lose (back) charge, but still remain (down) charge

on arcade stick, i have difficulties on (back) to (front) charge sad.gif

fremont,

I started internship, so I'm coming home late and tired.

On top of that, my college gave me another big assignment to pass up DURING internship. So I'm doing that too.

I've also got a personal issue that popped up since last Sunday so I'm not really in the mood to play games.

If I am on though, I tend to be on 10pm onwards. Might be on tonight though.
