Hi all,

My living room Plasma (Philips low res) just currently died on me yesterday, cannot start up. My wife had asked me to go and ask for the repairing charge and see if it is worth the repair or not. I am thinking to take this opportunity for a replacement to FHD LCD 46" or above (if price permits).

Previously had set my eyes on either Sammy A950 or the LED 6000 46", but suddenly the thought of spending that much scared me. Both models would cost me approx RM8K and 10K respectively. I had just upgraded my master room to 40" LED 6000 bout 3mths ago..so already overspend..

Now, I am trying to survey for a good 46" FHD LCD which may be value for money and cheaper than the 2 models of my previous consideration for my living room. I may still end up with either model but before I decide, I wanna make sure I spend wisely .. "VALUE FOR MONEY". So I am in a dilemma here.

Mostly, I watch my BD's in my master room wif my wife most of the time, that is why I chose the LED series, PQ excellent, but still pricey. So the living room would be used mostly for PS3, Astro and sometimes BD when I am alone in the hse.

There are many good and experience sifus here, and I hope anybody could advise me..... so that I can choose wisely. I would prefer brands like Samsung, Sony or Sharp only.... Also did thought of the Panasonic Plasma S10 50", but.... somehow, I kinda like LCD better after viewing my LED TV in the master room

Why choose LCD? Since you were plasma user, why not just buy another plasma? With budget around 6k, you can buy the latest 50 inch Panasonic plasma already (model P50S10).....Panasonic is one of the best plasma producer besides Pioneer...plasma is best suits your usage : gaming, Astro & especially movies thumbup.gif ...buy Panasonic plasma, you won't regret it coz I'm planning to buy one recently laugh.gif ...try this shop, they selling at an attractive price http://jintexelectronics.com/

To be frank, I have not actually manage to see any plasma properly calibrated before... so I would not know the extend of the PQ compared to the LCD... both with optimum settings after calibration...

Chia latz...... the service repairmen came to my hse today.. he suspect only 2 things... SSB Bd (tuners, memory and cable inputs) OR the Power Bd...

Each will cost me RM1.5K.....

Come to think of it, may not be worth it to repair ler.. somemore for a low resolution Plasma... top up extra RM2K also can get me a HD ready 42" plasma liou ler..

I asked the service guy to go back and let me think for a few days... if I do change to a new TV, think anyone would take trade in for my old one?

Or get panny 50" full hd, swap with your bedroom 46" LCD. Bigger is better. Don't you feel LCD a little too bright for low light bedroom? I found out LCD is great in bright area but in low light condition, plasma is more comfortable due to lack of backlight. LED I'm not sure as I didn't view that before in low light condition.

My room is only 40", and I would not have any more space to cramp anything more than 42". So I guess the Sammy will have to remain in the master.

As for the living, looks like Panny is a favourable choice suiting the budget as well as value for money.. Pan Ji and Tua Teh... only concern may be the brightness in the living room.

Finally, manage to view the 50" Panny S10 at Harvey Norman QBM yesterday. I asked them to hook up to the Sammy BD player and played Spiderman 3 BD.

I was not amused by the PQ... but maybe because the PQ settings were default. I asked them to switch to all default settings such as Dynamic, Standard, Cinema and Game mode.. Standard mode came out best, but still very much lacked behind the LCD contrast...

Dynamic mode was worst as I can see noises at the surroundings. But again dynamic mode produces best colour contrast compared to the rest...

coz the environment is quite bright at HN... plasmas only excel in darker environments so if ur living room is rather bright, LCD is the way to go.. and if u plan to do gaming, LCD too to avoid burn-in headaches bro.

guys, u know wat.. the weirdess thing happened yesterday...

U know my plasma will not power up issue, and I continued trying so for 2 days continously with no response b4 I called the repairmen.

Hence, yesterday I tried my luck to power it up again, and it did boot up.. which means this is most probably an intermittent issue. Of course sooner or later also have to chg dee lar, since already got intermittent problem.

So right now, I can buy a longer time to make my decision. Pls continue this thread... hahaha
