@teikwing,
CAQ! HahAHahHAhahHA Ur gonna get some spammers asking U what CAQ is tongue.gif And absolutely right about the 24 months contract; I rather not be bounded by one but mine's an AU set so heheheh it's not going to affect me I guess *gulps*

@davidgary73,
Looks like U got extra Mods here, U and teikwing and well, on rare occasions, U have me to police too tongue.gif See.. we luv u and help u with ur 'job' too biggrin.gif Now, don't we deserve a drink on u? wub.gif

@MrKong,
A typical US TV series is 350MB. So do a rough gauge how much 500MB is. We cannot really give you a gauge.

Thannks but I think it's best for me to visit Maxis centre in the morning to confirm the status, otherwise they screw me up on 31st!!!

@tink
Where have u been??? Tot u'll be around to KPC on the pricing plan announcement.... heheh... anyway it's been fun allright with their new pricing. At least it's affordable and competitive with SG & HK!

I think it's best to buy outright if ur using DiGi or Celcom. But if ur using Maxis, my as well u sign up the plans. But if I were to sign up, 12mths is ok becoz the benefit is lower with 24mths contract... not worth it..... hey better think carefully b4 deciding....

@jonest,
I was bz attending to some family stuff the whole day hence wasn't online; missed all the excitement but well am glad it was good news for most of U biggrin.gif

I can't comment much about which plan is most suited for U but U should know based on your existing call plan and existing usage but like U said signing a 24 month plan is not something I want so if it were up to me, I would prefer the outright plans biggrin.gif Also, who knows - u may just want an upgrade come Jul 2010 tongue.gif

@teikwing,
I've checked with my Maxis sources (and they're more accurate than the CS) - the RM99 Unlimited Plan is also capped at 3GB.
*
Maxis should not use UNLIMITED if it is not really unlimited in actual where it is capped at 3GB mad.gif

@neekun,
Act.. when I activated my data plan, the CS on the phone (and i spoke with 2 different ones) as well as the fella over the counter [due to some issues, I couldn't activate my plan via phone so had to walk-in] said it was unlimited, as in unlimited.

My Maxis insider however warned me about the 3GB capped cause apparently some customers have kena it oredi. He did however say if we don't use it to download stuff, chances are 3GB is much more than enough and I've a feeling he may just be right biggrin.gif

Hence I decided to warn the rest of the forummers here but some can choose not to believe me and believe the CS tongue.gif

@Mr Kong:
basically, 500MB is sufficient for normal usage (ie. casual surfing with Facebook, some email checking, IM, browsing, some YouTube). unless you do surf 24/7 and play around with your iPhone every second of the day, then it will not be sufficient.

@tink:
i might get that kinda spam posts and bro david gotta start cleaning up again. today was really tiring, 9k hits in a day is insane! but thank God i have david to help out. smile.gif

btw, CAQ stands for Commonly Asked Questions for those who didn't get it. biggrin.gif

@jonest:
with the few hundred bucks saved but tied down to another 12 months of contract is kinda not worth it IMO. but to some, that couple of hundred bucks might mean a lot.

what's the different with without contract and prepaid plan? why both's iphone same price 1?

and for the prepaid plan, how much should I top up per month? the website did not mention rm174. and how much is the charges for calling/sms?

QUOTE(djkeoni @ Jul 15 2009, 06:09 PM)
Thanks teikwing! Well I suppose you're right. I broke down the details if it helps anyone in my shoes:

Prepaid + ValuePlus 80 + Unlimited 3G = iPhone 3GS 16GB rm2490 + Monthly rm179

iValue 2 = 667 minutes + 1GB data = iPhone 3GS 16GB rm1990 + Monthly 155

iData 2 = 500MB data @ rm50 + ValuePlus 80 = iPhone 3GS 16GB rm2090 + Monthly rm130

iData 3 = 3GB data @ rm99 + ValuePlus 80 = iPhone 3GS 16GB rm1990 + Monthly rm179

The FAQ says I can book two phones, but when I try to do it, I get a "You have already booked a phone" message. How do I do a second booking?

@neekun,

When Maxis cap at 3GB usage, u will still be able to use the data connection, oni thin is they will throttle down ur download speed. I believe celcom cap is 5GB while P1's cap is 20GB! Hence I chose P1 thou it's not meant for mobile. Cheers.

@coriandery
How about different mobile no and / or email add?

@teikwing
Well, if ur currently using Maxis postpaid, you do save some. +iData50 x 12mths = RM600, less RM400 discount on phone so it's still ok. unless u do not intend to use data at all, then stick wif ur voice plan would suffice. Actually, my Maxis postpaid is backup and seldom use. Main line is still DiGi. But I may switch to Maxis later at the year, given the current situation. I'm paying RM66 unlimited for Edge!

@-XIII-,
Er.. it was explained earlier the RM179 came from :-

ValuePlus80 + RM99 Unlimited Data Plan = RM179.

@jonest,
I don't think U can compare the telcos with an actual mobile provider. P1 is not accessible everywhere at the moment mah. Also, I'm going to check my usage for the next 3 months, if it's within 500MB each month then I will consider switching back to the RM50 for 500MB plan instead of taking the RM99 unlimited plan biggrin.gif

@teikwing,
I thought CAQ - Consumer/Customer Asked Questions ! hAHahAHhaHAhahAHah..

@manchurr,
Am sure Maxis will allow you to port your number over. All U need to do is switch from Celcom to Maxis, register as a new user, keep your old number and buy the iPhone with iValue 1 plan.

By doing that, U will also need to sign a 24 month contract with Maxis.

@=Hanxz=,
Never too late. Start charging your "customers" extra 10% for jailbreaking services and soon U'll haf the $ *smile*

1) Will the SIM be locked to Maxis? No, the SIM is not locked to any network. However, the handset will be preset to the Maxis network. Phones not connected to the Maxis network will not be supported by Maxis.
2) Will my iPhone 3G S work with other non-Maxis operators? Sir/madam, it may work but we cannot guarantee the same iPhone 3G S experience when the iPhone 3G S is used on other non-Maxis operators. However, we can guarantee that the iPhone 3G S will work with Maxis network.

The information above was found in the faq.pdf document provided by Maxis. I tried to contact Maxis via e-mail, but so far no luck yet smile.gif.

As I will be traveling quote often it is important that I can switch telco sim card every once a while without any problems. With that Singtel I knew it was 100% official unlocked. How's that for the Maxis phone? Perhaps I am reading it faulty, but above I read that there's no simlock, but the part 'Phones not connected to the Maxis network will not be supported by Maxis'... could anyone explain a bit what this means exactly?

I am looking for a prepaid solution, so the new Hotlink is perfect. I was planning to take up unlimited 3G at Celcom and other sims at other countries.

Is it still wise for me to go for the Maxis Hotlink prepaid?

Cheers!

The iPhones distributed by Maxis are officially unlocked so U should have no problems using other SIMs with it biggrin.gif

@DikkieD:
local telco regulations does not allow any of our local carriers to lock any phones to their network. hence, Maxis iPhones are officially unlocked. in the past, 3G users have been able to use their iPhones obtained through Maxis on other networks. smile.gif
