just wanna clarify with the 3g stuff

i do believe i got charge of 1-2sen and i am using the hotlink plan which free 500mb permonth for a year...now i try to activate the 3g by calling *136# to get the 3g sms to say i am activate...so now there is a question of

does 3g related to the cellular network stuff?
the username and password stuff which are unet and maxis..or this is only related to edge? if i change the unet to unet9 inorder to close my edge will this effect my 3g? and the charging part which makes me dun understand it....1-2sen rate...am i using 3g or edge? do edge charges?
*
terms like edge, 3G and HSDPA are only used to describe the speed.

hence to answer your question, of course edge will incur charges as there is an influx and outflow of data into your device.

self explanatory, even for gprs i guess?

Depends how often do you makes oversea calls. the plan is only entitled for local calls only. I've asked them this as well. They recommend me to subscribe Idata RM 99 plan instead of taking Ivalue plan. However, it is also based on your preference or usage. Althought , i did make oversea calls but i'm still heavy on local calls as well. So i still stick back with Ivalue 3.

About the 1 sen charges, please call hotlink and report this issue to them as their system might still register you as using the regular charge rate instead of getting free 500mb data. I did that and they said it will be rectified and my credit refunded within 5 working days.

FYI, the APN settings "unet" is for 3G and "net" is for EDGE/GPRS. Hence, if you're using an old sim card that does not support 3G then "unet" won't work. You can either:
1. upgrade the sim card for RM25 at Maxis or
2. just use "net" for EDGE/GPRS (of course at a slower data transfer speed)

And 3G/EDGE/GRPS the difference is just the speed. If you use data, there are always charges (but for your case you shouldn't be charged since you're supposed to get free 500mb every month).

@NXaqua,
The letter should be self-explanatory. If U purchase the i3GS using that particular number, U will get a RM500 rebate; in which RM100 will be credited into your account for the next 5 months biggrin.gif

well i think the maxis offer is stupid.. rebate rm500 for the iphone 3g.

They give u a discount of rm500 of the RRP for the iphone 3Gs. so they are saying after 4 months ur iphone is worh rm500 only..??? insane right.

MIght as well i sell 2nd hand in LY forum can get around 1900. and topup better.

Maxis is always thinkin of makin money only.. this is so unfair for customers who got the iphone 3g first.

thank you for your "insightful" opinion with regards to this.

1. you signed a contract and is therefore bound by it. maxis is no under obligation to offer you anything extra. do a simple research and see how other iPhone providers globally operate.

2. maxis is a company and not a charity organisation.

3. unhappy with maxis? stop patronising them and opt for another network provider.

@sneakerlogist,
I don't see what's so stupid with this Maxis offer; in fact it's better than nothing. It's a mere rebate and not a trade-in so U can still sell off the i3G at RM1900 yet qualify for the RM500 rebate when U purchase the i3GS.

i don't understand what you mean... unsure.gif

from my understanding, RM500 is rebate if you purchased the iphone , that means if you bought 16GB iphone, basically you only pay RM1980 for the phone without the contract.

@sneakerlogist,
Nothing in the mail or on Maxis website states trade-in. And even then, RM500 value seems to be a lil low; I know for a fact Maxis trade-ins are up to about RM1.2k-1.3k depending on condition of ur iPhone and boxset and all.

Thus far, all forummers have reported rebate, not trade-in.

@faizalmzain,
Act, U still front RM2490 cash. The RM500 will be credited back to your account over a 5 month period. So as long as U maintain your account and let it remain active, U should get the RM500 credited back into ur account. That's how the rebate system works; or seem to work.

From the front page I see the installment plan is only for ivalue plan right? Buying at RRP won't allow us to use installment as well?

it's still possible for installment even if you're buying at RRP (ie. outright). but you'll have to deal with your CC's bank rather than Maxis/Machines. there might be some additional surcharge on top of the RRP.

and also is there another way to turn off 3g/edge other than using bosspref? i plan not to JB my phone. thanks.
