I think Maxis is having a swell time as there is no competition. This is what happens with monopoly. Try having a few other providers offer iPhone. I think that time it will be Maxis desperate for customers and not the customers being held at the mercy of Maxis.

There was some discussion on another thread regarding this matter so I thought why not open a topic and discuss about this and probably learn something......

I am puzzled on the business strategy of Apple by entering into an exclusive deal with Maxis for the distribution of the iPhone in Malaysia. Wouldn't it be better for Apple to diversify the distribution to a few more telcos to increase sales volume rather than counting on tariffs and percentages from a single dealer? With the popularity of the iPhone, I am sure by opening the distribution rights to other telcos like Celcom or Digi, the possible profits gained will be way more than what Maxis can offer by itself even if included whatever "benefits" they are offering to Apple for this exclusivity. Could it be because Maxis is playing the "supply and demand" game whereby by they are trying to make demand always exceed supply so that it will benefit the company as well as Apple? It is a known fact that when something is hard to get, its value appreciates.

What do you think?

*Note: this thread is purely for discussion/learning and by no means to discredit any mentioned telcos.

No, they still provide that package, its just not widely available yet, only some MEPs are allowing prepaid bookings, i know because i'm a recipient of a prepaid purchase of the 3GS, and i still get my 500mb.

Not to mention only 2 weeks wait brows.gif
