So the story start like this, when i got my 3gs on the last day of July, i realize that the phone has cracks on it, so immediately i request for a replacement. But the staff in maxis center said that currently there is none available stock, therefore he suggested me to keep the phone 1st, and come back on the 21 of august to complete the so called RMA form.

Today i went to the maxis center to complete the RMA, and i have repeated asking him whether i will get a new phone for the replacement, since most of the replacement phones are refurbish. The answer i get is the replacement phone will always be a new one. Of coarse i don't really believe it.

So the question is how do i differentiate whether the phone is refurbish or new one?

More often than not, a refurbished set will be given in replacement. Having said that however, since 3GS has only hit the market recently, Apple may not have too many of these refurbished yet or if they have any at all. Therefore, there is every liklelihood you will get a new unit. But for sure later, refurbished sets will be given out.

So meaning that i will be unable to trace whether it is a new or refurbish?

And since the fault occurred when it first came out from the box, do i have the right to request a new 1?
*
Refurbished sets usually come out from the US of A. So, by checking the Part/Model no., you would know.

On your second point, you would have to put forth your case very strongly, demand and do not relent. In that manner, you just might get a new set. IMO, your main argument would be the cracks were discovered immediately upon opening the box in the presence of their staff. But were told to use it first. Good luck to you, mate.

Do let us all here what is the outcome so that we know what to do in the event the same thing happens to anyone of us here.

My colleague has received a letter from maxis that to get second iPhone 3GS with RM 500 rebate.
Just wonder that any of the maxis user received such letter?

Maxis sends either an sms or a letter to selective customers, those who had purchsed a 3G from them earlier. These people get 2 options, one, to buy a 3GS outright with a rebate of RM500 and 2, at 50% off an iValue plan coupled with 50% off the price of a 3GS.

Iphone 3GS is way better than Iphone 3G. Besides the price gap is not much.

@NewMan123a

If the main reason you are considering a 3G now is the long waiting period, strictly my personal view is that you buy a used unit, use it for a few months, dispose of it then and buy the 3GS. Of course, you would lose a few ringgit, given what you want, similar to those who would pay exhorbitant amount just to get the 3GS early.

hi, lets say im going to buy a second hand iphone can the name on the warrenty card being transfer ? bcoz i worry that i cannot claim warrenty or to collect after warrenty.

Apart from Maxis other telcos do not bother about ownership. And Maxis insists on the original owner submitting the warranty claim, at least for the first time. So, if you were to buy a used Maxis set, make sure the original owner is within your grasp.

Let me rain on your parade a little more but I sincerely hope the dark clouds are not that gloomy.

It is generally a standard practice that replacement sets are refurbished. So, you just might get one of those which is a sin, given your situation. Suggest strongly that you check the set when you get it. Do report to us here so that those in the similar position would know the situation.

There was a case where on collecting the set, it was noticed that there were cracks on the unit but was told to use it first and bring back for warranty claim later. My advice to those who may be confronted with this situation, for what it is worth is don't, in view of what is stated above. Tell Maxis you don't want the set and get another one which at least you know then will be new.

After waiting for one month after my iPhone arrived and I'm not allow to get it with prepaid plan as promised during the booking, I decide to cancel the order and get back my deposit, well, I must said forcing people take the contract by onhold iPhone DOESN'T WORK FOR ME. Guess Maxis is doing really doing good job by screwing up customer and itself.

With this type of approach to piss off customer, I can forsee more market share is losing. If their concern is people might bought the phone with prepaid plan and switch to use other telco, it just doesn't make sense since Hotlink is offering monthly 500mb 3G data transfer for one year with existing Hotlink number, I think this is attractive enough the retain the customer. Besides, I'm a Maxis user and already using Maxis prepaid for 7-8 years, which has no plan to switch to other telco, but I might rethink about switching due to what I been treated with this iPhone purchasing experience.

Pls PM me which shop in Penang able to offer prepaid plan for iPone 3GS 32G for now.

If you have stated you want a pre-paid plan when you made the booking and were allowed, you have a case to argue. I would not have relented and would have raised a big hue and cry.

But if nothing concrete was put down in terms of your requirement, just a verbal promise was given, it would then be a different story. The moral here is make sure everything is in black and white.

Registered on the 28th September under Hotlink prepaid for the 32gb black version.

And so the month long wait begins. smile.gif

At least you could at this juncture pre-book under the Pre-paid Package. For the benefit of your fellow forummers who would like to order under that plan, perhaps you could advise where your pre-booking was made.
