If I understand correctly now the prepaid iPhone simply cannot be pre-ordered anymore. On the other hand Maxis people can also not tell me when they expect the new batch for Hotlink (prepaid) to arrive.

They gave me a number to call to check up on active stock, with also the risk that stocks clear faster then I can get there smile.gif.

It seems I need to wait at least one month if I want an official unlocked without Maxis contract. I thought about the RM155 iValue plan, but I think data is too low. I don't want to pay RM99 extra for the 3gb data.

I will head back to Maxis Pavilion shortly to ask what other options I have, but I am afraid it will mean I have to wait until all stock related problems have been solved here in Malaysia..

If anybody could advise me on how to get an official unlocked here in Malaysia I would be happy....

Cheers

I ordered a 32GB 3GS at Maxis the Gardens at the 14th of August. I was in the neighborhood yesterday, so I decided to drop by and try my luck. Though the woman behind the counter did walk to the back to pick the device up (they did have them lying around), after 10 minutes she regrettably told me 'it wasn't my time yet'. I can live with that since there obviously are still people that didn't get theirs but booked way before me.

It is however a bit sad that I know for sure (99%) that a young girl before me also 'tried her luck' and walked out with a white 3GS....

I was told I have to wait...max 30 days after prebooking she said....so theoretically I still have until the 14th of September smile.gif...

Hmm...as I needed to head over to The Gardens tomorrow for other business, I figured I'd try the phone number mentioned earlier. After I went through a ridiculously long menu I got into contact with an employee. She immediately forwarded me to the 1800 number. Again the menu, again the waiting, again people trying to ditch me. After I told them the whole story (which isn't that bad, but should be treated with the same interest) he asked me for my number. When I told them the number he immediately tried to forward me again, saying that I called the postpaid number instead of the no. for prepaid (1300xxxxx123 or whatever). So again the wait and the menu....then I explained the situation....

So she told me she would hang up, check it all out and call me back within the hour. Never received a call, after 5 hours I decided to call back myself. I called back because the woman I spoke to last told me there wasn't a booking on my name at Maxis The Garden...that's why she would look into it.

Then the 2nd call tonight. The guy was kind but we weren't exactly on the same page language-wise. It took 10 minutes to spell out my full name and number. So when all was ok, he told me I should call the 1800 number. Funny that they try and use me as a shufflepuck at Maxis. At the end I managed to convince him that he should look into it, because the woman I spoke to earlier promised me a callback. So after listening to some relaxing music on the phone he came back to explain that he couldn't 'look into the bookings at Maxis the Gardens'....which is quite asthonishing to me since I was calling Maxis service center right smile.gif. He simply told me to head over to the Gardens to try my luck. He even told me if it had been 30 days already, I could even walk into any Maxis store to collect. This made me laugh a bit....can you image the hilarious atmosphere at Maxis if clients just run into any store...? smile.gif...

Anyways, the reason for calling them in the first place was that I have a dentist appointment at Midvalley tomorrow. I am not living in that area of KL...so I figured it would be simply awesome to pick up the phone while I am there already. Upcoming weekend I will be heading over to a island, so no iPhone pickup then for me smile.gif...theoreticly I could pick up my iPhone on the 13th of September (which is 30 days after prebooking and payment)....will try anyways tomorrow...but I have a feeling that this will not be that easy (since some assume that 'I never made any booking'...funny when the official slip is lying in front of me smile.gif )...

........the plot thickens smile.gif

Went to the Gardens this morning. Was the 2nd one there, since my 'lottery' ticket said '2' smile.gif

Sad news for me. No stock, misinformed. The store manager spoke with me, as I was visibly angry with the lot. Yesterday the guy told me litterally "yes, I have called them, it is ok for you to collect your iPhone tomorrow". So with high expectations to the Gardens, just to be dissapointed again. Lesson learned, no point in making this happen yourself. I have spend over two precious hours on the phone with Maxis yesterday. I have been helped great over the phone, just to find out in the end it was all just to keep me happy. 'Just collect it tomorrow', only to hear there's absolutely no stock. He told me they were waiting on a new batch. They expected it to arrive today (friday), but it could easily be monday. Again the 'you will be called or receive an sms from Maxis'...I told them I don't care, wasted too much energy already.

So, long story short. Sunday my 30 days are up. I can expect a call on monday....this time it was a genuine promise smile.gif

I got mine today at Maxis The Gardens. Exactly after 1 month. I cannot use it for 24hrs however, as I am switching from prepaid to postpaid.

I am happy with receiving the phone finally. I am however very angry with Maxis for a new twist in this f***ed up script.

I was advised to get the iValue1 with the 'old' RM99 Unlimited (real genuine unlimited)....so today I told her that was the account I needed, I was told that Maxis had cancelled that 'old' account. There's no real unlimited account anymore, besides the Idata with 3GB download limit. To me this really is a disaster as I needed to use my iPhone to do daily videocalls (also through skype) to Europe. I will most certainly not make it with the 3GB. The 'punishment-costs' for exceeding the data limit is extremely high; 0.5sen per kb?...What the flying f***? That's RM50 per mb right (or am I mistaken???). Unbelievable that they decided to change this all of a sudden. I took some RM50 call account with the iData3 or something, RM150 total for 3gb a month. How can they offer television on a 3GB cap?

Anyways, I will see how it goes. I had planned to use tethering on the phone too, but with 3GB it's not of that much use to me anymore. I am thinking of paying off everything altogether and will try to locate a 3G provider without a download cap....anyone know of any (celcom perhaps?)....besides...I couldn't even change to Hotlink, I was told I couldn't get my iPhone today when I wanted to change to Hotlink prepaid. I was told I would get my RM200 back, and had to wait for it to be available as prepaid again....again, wtf....why so many dissapointments? Welcome to Malaysia right??? smile.gif sad.gif

nope at 0.5sen per kb, it is RM5 per MB =) but still of course, it is ridiculous to use pay per use for daily usage unless you are just checking mails.

On the (not) very bright side, the maximum cap for data usage is at RM250 so it wont go higher than that. Anyway I don't think any cellular 3G provider is giving unlimited data anymore, including DiGi and Celcom.

That's interesting to read. Are you sure there's a cap but also a max? Where can I find this info exactly? So this would mean that if I would utilize a full unlimited data acct, I would pay RM250 a month max? It's of course extremely expensive, but still...I remember times in the Netherlands where people had to pay thousands of euro's after exceeding their caps...lucky for me there those times were long gone already, too bad it's still being enforced over here..The thing is; it's says alot about the capacity..so much for 'a really really innovative network over here' smile.gif biggrin.gif....

At celcom website I cannot find any information about a max (cap) btw...perhaps I am not looking at the right places..?

Cheers!
