Hi, may i ask if i use EMI/RFI filter in the power socket, what differences do i expect to hear?

I have done a DIY EMI Sheild for my soundcard and the sound became warmer, tighter bass, less sharp/"dead" treble, but is also made the soundstage or "airy/spacious" feeling slightly less. Is that what i'm supposed to hear?

EMI = low freq, EFI = high freq, can you actually hear any difference by sheilding your soundcard.....??

Yeah, like i described in my 1st post, tighter bass, warmer sound, less piercing treble - the treble now not so sharp and more lively...and that the soundstage and "airy-ness" seems less...because of treble?. But i'm wondering if that is what i'm supposed to hear...or am i just inducing more interference to the card?

i'm considering getting power conditioner too...those normal ones like belkin with surge protector. hmm... wondering anyone uses conditioner and can give some advice on how it sounds before and after?

just curious, how do you DIY an EMI Sheild for your soundcard?

how to explain ah doh.gif

Basically its based on something here in this guide (5th picture frm top): http://www.overclock.net/sound-cards-compu...-will-void.html
http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f46/hotroddi...-no-56k-226975/ (same thing, just diff website if you cant access the 1st one)

The point is to have something conductive on top of the backside of the card to absorb/deflect EMI/RFI.
Why backside? because since most of the computer's hardware generating interference is most of the time on top of the soundcard eg. processor, graphic card, ram, northbridge/southbridge etc.

That guide uses ERS paper, its some kind of conductive paper and an insulator between the card and the paper, the insulator wasn't mentioned. I couldnt find any ERS paper here so...

I use aluminium foil and paste it on top a cardboard as the insulator then use cello tape and stick it to the back card.

something like this, this is my 1st attempt pict, i've improved it recently...smoother the aluminium foil and neater ; )

Problem is, i dont know whether by doing that will bring and absorb more EMI nearer to the card or not. Thts why i need to find out what it sounds like when u guys use a EMI/RFI power conditioner. If it sounds the same with what i described earlier... means this concept is correct loh rclxms.gif

I got a better idea...since nowadays very techy one...can just order a few of the so call EMI cutting patches used for handphones...haha..then can go on sticking it everywhere.

Or better still..try bamboo as well

As the seller say "Results is instant"  thumbup.gif

Not sure if it gives a tighter bass thou  tongue.gif

nice findings, but i dont trust those products too much, i'd rather follow other conventional ways like what asus did with their XONAR soundcard and audiotrak with their soundcard, all use a metal shielding, wonder has anyone taken off the shield and hear how it sounds....but i heard that those shield are grounded to the card...so yeah i still need to know the results from people who use power conditioners... anyone??
