just curious, how do you DIY an EMI Sheild for your soundcard?
how to explain ah
Basically its based on something here in this guide (5th picture frm top):
http://www.overclock.net/sound-cards-compu...-will-void.html http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f46/hotroddi...-no-56k-226975/ (same thing, just diff website if you cant access the 1st one)
The point is to have something conductive on top of the backside of the card to absorb/deflect EMI/RFI.
Why backside? because since most of the computer's hardware generating interference is most of the time on top of the soundcard eg. processor, graphic card, ram, northbridge/southbridge etc.
That guide uses ERS paper, its some kind of conductive paper and an insulator between the card and the paper, the insulator wasn't mentioned. I couldnt find any ERS paper here so...
I use aluminium foil and paste it on top a cardboard as the insulator then use cello tape and stick it to the back card.
something like this, this is my 1st attempt pict, i've improved it recently...smoother the aluminium foil and neater ; )

Problem is, i dont know whether by doing that will bring and absorb more EMI nearer to the card or not. Thts why i need to find out what it sounds like when u guys use a EMI/RFI power conditioner. If it sounds the same with what i described earlier... means this concept is correct loh
