Considering the Fender Geddy Lee Jazz Bass .... Since its with maple fretboard . Gotta know how to take care of it .

Saw my friend's really old guitar ... His maple fretboard got like black marks on them . I absolutely don't want that on my new axe .

I own an Ibanez GSR200 now but with Rosewood fretboard so I'm okay with it.

ok once and for all, google you damn question before acting like a dumb f*** herelah.
its all over the web.
use all sorts of techniques also can, but what works is a toothbrush (and if you dont know whether hard or soft to use u shouldnt be playing guitar in the first place), some degreaser/ concentrated cleaner, and wood nourishing oil (not lemon oil) used for furniture. ronsonol makes the oil, can find at good hardware shops.

Thanks for asking ... I already did google.
And it's all over the web , Im here to ask for the BEST solution.
If you're so smart , why don't you give me the links and source for your answers since you're so smart and you think you're right .

And for your method of cleaning , Any proof that it works ?
And oh yeah , what brush to use ? I don't own a maple fretboard and I use cloth to wipe my rosewood fretboard. I don't see the reason if you don't know how to clean maple fretboard then you shouldn't be playing guitar. Perhaps you should stop flaming ? laugh.gif

i'm not with anyone but...

since you already googled on the net and find various kind of solutions that worked for many different people. you probably came across many international forum having the same topic going on, do you find any best answer? i bet no, if not you won't be asking here. this is called spoon-feed, which you won't learn anything.

you can always do your own experiments and find out what work best for you. some people think no cleaning = best, some think wiping = best, some think oiling the fretboard = best. so what is best? the best method is the one that work best for you. for example, when people talk about using some kind of polish or oil, how can you make sure you're using the same brand or ingredient? if your hand is greasy, do you think oiling the fretboard is ideal?

Oh yes . Like what you said ... Experiment it yourself . I don't even have a maple fretboard now . I just want to have the best solution before I get it to avoid dirt building up . Well , If I can voice up my own opinion , this is a forum as well right ? Why can't people just give out their opinion and instead wasting their time on debating whether the TS had googled up or experiment it ?

There's maybe 10 replies here , If 10 of these replies are suggestions / their own method of cleaning the fretboard , I hardly doubt there will be any problem here.

Oils , Polisher . There's so many brands here ... And whoever uses whatever brand can voice up as well right so that Me/Other people can narrow down their search / ideas on what to get for their guitar.

And FYI , International forums does have these topics but can we get most of the stuffs that they have there ? Brand wise for instance.

so you mean everybody in this thread only speculate whether you done googling or not? are you not reading carefully or being thankful? so you want professional answer, you can always get in touch with them by sending them emails, or get in touch with them personally.

still don't get it?? zzzz...

this is what forum should be. nobody knows what kind of fretboard you have, what kind of guitar (heck you don't even have a guitar with maple fretboard zzzz), how you play, how you handle your guitar, what you eat before you play (tomato sauce, KFC, lol), so people can only give suggestion and what work best for them.

you try to ask in 10 forums see if anyone can give you the "best" answer. i bet you can't even define what is "best".

you can always head to mid valley or ikea damansara, go for the Ace Hardware store and you'll find plenty of those mentioned names internationally, as Ace Hardware is international DIY store and they bring in a lot of oversea stuffs. is this consider voicing out my opinions? am i being not helpful? tongue.gif

if you really want the best solution, perhaps buy those LCD screen protector and stick on every frets? brows.gif

I think you get the wrong idea here. I did googling , I went to other forums and lastly I come asking around in here. Different people different opinions / methods . I don't see the reason why I cannot ask here for more opinions.

Oh yes ... You're right , There are people who answered properly and I have no problem with that . But as they answer , We discuss about their method and other forumers method which I don't see a problem here and thus giving/making/having better solutions. I have already stated at the first post that I'm considering a Maple fretboard , How should I clean it .

alright, i got the wrong impression here. perhaps jcyh got on your nerves at first but i don't see why you should respond him that way. he stated that because you ask as like you never do researches.

you can always put your original question as "what's your favourite way of taking care your maple fretboard?", it'll be more appropriate to avoid misunderstanding. sweat.gif

so you're in australia, then you can just ask around, i'm sure you can get more informative responses than asking here. i wouldn't waste my time around here before asking around over your current place.

as you said, your friend's maple fretboard has got lots of black marks, he doesn't seems to care, have you ever wonder why?

All I know is because his guitar is a low end model . Well , Transport in Australia is not as easy as you think. Asking in here also gives me a little bit of a head start because not everything that the shop introduces are good for every individual.

Aussie doesn't has popular / convinient forum like Low Yat forum if I must say . I hope that this gives you the answer of why am I posting in LOW YAT instead of Aussie Forums ?

alright, if transport isn't convenient, then the next best thing will be international forums. it's not necessary to ask local forums. i believe there're quite a few dedicated electric guitar forums out there, which will give you plenty of informations.

just a few example threads i've searched in a dedicated ibanez forum:

http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f11/keeping-...o-use-3230.html
http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f11/lemon-oil-3257.html

2nd thread mentioned about maple fretboard, and some comparisons.

i doubt you'll get more informative threads than those by asking here, it could be just repeating the same thing here so why not just read through them.
