if you are new at this, look for a NAD CD player. much cheaper than a Cyrus and it will break you in gently.

You can connect an amplifier to an active sub - most active subs have two types of inputs - high-level (speaker connectors) and low-level (RCA-type connectors). If the amplifier has a low level SUB output, you can use that.

If it doesn't, you connect the speaker output of the amp to the high level input of the subwoofer, then your speakers to the high-level output of the sub (pic below)

Thank you. I have a Yamaha DSP A5 and after checking yes it has a sub output. Just that i dont have a sub yet. Any recommendation for a sub? Not so big and not expensive. How much roughly will it cost?

Thanks again.

What is the benefit of such connection? Xtra voltage for the sub?

If you use the hi level input to connect to an external amp, this will bypass the sub's internal amp right?

If so the only advantage I can see is if the external amp is better than the internal amp.

integrating a sub into a purely stereo setup requires the high-level connections; with these connection you can dial the sub crossover properly so that it coincides with the low level extension of your main speakers
