I thought subsidy from MMU should have enough for you to cover the lab fees and even more to do many other stuffs. Anyway, just sharing with you some mindset from a gamer point of view:
Scenario A: (Your current scenario)
having prizes of RM300, RM200 and RM100 with a registration fee RM30.
1, Have you ever thought of how is the loser feel if he lost in the 1st round?
2, The winner, only get 10x of what he has "invested"
3, You need to have >20 "crazy" participants in order to break-even. Imagine the pity 17players....
Scenario B: (Where I consider within the "healthly" level)
having cash prizes of RM200, RM100 and RM50 with a registration fee RM10.
1, The winner gets 20x of what he has "invested". Happier compare to Scenario A where he need to invest higher and return rate low.
2, Lower/No risk to gamer. as if they lost in 1st round also won't feel badly.
3, More participants(I can confirm this!) AND THIS IS WHAT SPONSORS NEED.(not like scenarioA where only 10 cats participate and wandering around the few PCs)
I totally DO NOT understand the cash prize you are offering.
Seriously, there is no point offering high cash prizes whereby players are paying high registration fee(this is something like you organize and tell players to pay RM100, then first prize RM3,000; players pay RM1000 and you give RM30,000 prize

totally way out of the actual e-sports objective, is something to do with genting highland gambling dy).

Thank you choongyouqi with sharing this point. First of all, you are right that MMU provide subsidy, and it's an eye-opener for everyone in here to know that, yes MMU do provide that. But with that budget, if you are doing for one games, of course it won't be a big problem. But have you consider that we are handling 5 other games. You may think, don't do so many, but some of the sponsors want more games, especially those that have many other games in their gaming portal.
Apart from your logic and investment explanation, you are right that if I put myself in that position of a gamer, I won't feel nice. And you do not understand about the cash prizes that we are offering. The thing is that I hope you understand in this point is that, our cash prizes are solely from the registration fees and inclusive of the budget that we have. Sponsors only give cash prizes if our event is as big as Cyberfusion or if we collaborate their events. If we are doing our event, it is hard for sponsors to give money just like that, they will prefer to give you product prizes. You may say I know! I know! and said, just lower the cash prizes. But it is based on our survey, that competition if your first prize below RM 200 may not get that much of participation. And you YOURSELF know how rural Cyberjaya is. They will definitely consider those in the cash prizes just like you might do also, and just like how Singaporeans players that came to our campus last time. You consider on their risk and return, but you forgot about the rest of the overhead cost dude! It is OPPORTUNITY COST in economic terms.
Also, since we are considering the gamers point of view, do consider on the Organizer's point of view that if example, you put the prizes for RM200 with registration fees of RM10, and if just like Rakan Muda, you put in Puchong, people will still consider. There are a lot of cybercafes that can help them to promote this as well. But think twice on Cyberjaya. Also, during this coming event, organizers have to get ready booths, F&B and etc, wHY? This is because we know that not all players will want to go out, because game schedule are tight. And considering that, vendors are not stupid to sell to few poeple, compare to whole MMU student like in Misri Plaza everytime. We gotta prepare the food ourselves for them. And you know this is for convocation purpose, and all of the partitioning boards and etc. are not available as they have book for the main event on August 7th - 10. Do you know how much does those partitioning board cost? Apart from that, do you think those company will sponsor us for that or our SUBSIDY are able to cover the entire cost?
We are in the stage of more mature students or going into young adulthood, sometime things can be as easy to be said than done. And considering the Genting Highland gambling stuff, if you know how to value risk and return, you will know that higher risk means higher return, unless you have portfolio management under your wing, which I don't see it is deemed necessary in this points.
And last but not least, the reason why I back this post and to reasoned out to you (although it is not necessary and it is definitely very subjective as you and i truly know that we have our own point of views) is that, the sake of this whole event if to COMMEMORATE the graduating students. It is to create an awareness of our Convocation and for MMU students like you to shout out aloud on this convocation. It is for a purpose that we have this event and for you, as a MMU student to respond to this, I don't see any good and positive feedback coming our way for this coming event to celebrate our 10th Convocation. Thus, I've told you to consult me personally or you can even meet me up to talk about it (I'm willing to listen especially from you, who was a headmarshal before --> you can see that as I have revised the fees, my team are willing to listen, but subject if you come straight up to us, but not the other way around).
Anyway, for all the forumers and gamers who are reading this, I, on behalf of my team, truly will apologize for any wrong sayings and doings that I have made in this Lowyat post (especially to radio_head). The main objective of our post is to encourage participation to celebrate for MMU 10th Convocation thus once again, we apologize for the things that you guys do not want to see.
