to be honest, I don't think RM30 is reasonable registration fee for a college-level game competition. If your aim is to promote e-sports, you may really need to think twice again on setting back the fee to a "healthy level".

GDC should have enough experiences in organizing gaming competition. You might really need to learn the past mistakes made from your seniors.

dear choongyouqi, thank you for your quote in our frums. was looking for a head marshal for my FIFA09 actually, and wanted to contact you. I'll like to apologize in advance if any wrong-doings by the previous seniors (who is your friend) and my batch have to do with you.

I understand the registration for the Fees is quite high especially for FIFA, but I hope you can understand the cash prize money (that you definitely understand very well) is not sponsored. It is from the participants registration fees that we collect. And thinking on the participants side, at some point we do need to consider the organizers especially on the amount of participants that we need to have in order to break even. I understand during your time, participants were very little and you might be unhappy about it, and you definitely know that we do not want that to happen too right.

Apart from that, we are still in the midst of discussing the registration fees, because at the moment we are hoping that on our MMU side they will provide us more fundings so that we can lower down the prize. I'm truly grateful for your help and truly wish that any misconduct that we have done, please kindly consult us immediately through PM or email, unless you want to see the event not running on the very smooth side. Please contact me ASAP. Thank you!

I thought subsidy from MMU should have enough for you to cover the lab fees and even more to do many other stuffs. Anyway, just sharing with you some mindset from a gamer point of view:

Scenario A: (Your current scenario)
having prizes of RM300, RM200 and RM100 with a registration fee RM30.
1, Have you ever thought of how is the loser feel if he lost in the 1st round?
2, The winner, only get 10x of what he has "invested"
3, You need to have >20 "crazy" participants in order to break-even. Imagine the pity 17players....

Scenario B: (Where I consider within the "healthly" level)
having cash prizes of RM200, RM100 and RM50 with a registration fee RM10.
1, The winner gets 20x of what he has "invested". Happier compare to Scenario A where he need to invest higher and return rate low.
2, Lower/No risk to gamer. as if they lost in 1st round also won't feel badly.
3, More participants(I can confirm this!) AND THIS IS WHAT SPONSORS NEED.(not like scenarioA where only 10 cats participate and wandering around the few PCs)

for the FIFA fees, we are still in the midst of our meetings as mentioned in the earlier msg to mr. choongyouqi (the ex-head marshal of gamefest esport.

I hope you guys understand that comparing the amount prizes that we are offering. it wont be good to the sponsors and also if I reduced the cash prizes. we will confirm the payment fees by this tues after tomolo meeting with the heads, also, for those who have paid, we will refund according to the latest fees. Thank you!

I totally DO NOT understand the cash prize you are offering.
Seriously, there is no point offering high cash prizes whereby players are paying high registration fee(this is something like you organize and tell players to pay RM100, then first prize RM3,000; players pay RM1000 and you give RM30,000 prize shocking.gif totally way out of the actual e-sports objective, is something to do with genting highland gambling dy).

Added on July 21, 2009, 8:31 pmoh yeah~ Also, glad to hear that the fee has been revised.
