I'm keeping this female hoglet. I have a feeling that she's going to turn out like the colour of her dad, a silver snowflake.  smile.gif
She has her mother's calm temperament as well, which is great.

Wow so young you take out to take photo?

Lol, mama hedgie doesn't mind me taking them from the nest everyday.
As long as I bring her treats, she's happy.

Plus, I want to start getting them used to human contact. smile.gif
I don't want to give away/sell bad-tempered hedgehogs, like Huffster.

I've read that there's no such thing as not handling them before you give them to another owner because you don't want the hedgehog to bond to you.
That's why I ended up with a really bad-tempered hedgehog.
Because the breeder didn't try to tame an already bad-tempered hedgehog from young.

----

Their quills are kind of sharp but their nails are sharper. laugh.gif
The quills are still soft though, like the bristles on a soft toothbrush.

Yeah... it's perfectly fine... i think almost all hedgehog does that, at least mine does. smile.gif

Some article mentioned that we have to give them a constant day night cycle with a minimum of 12 hours of light to prevent hibernation.

However, i don't find it convincing because i once left my hedgehogs in the dark for 2 days. well, not totally dark in the morning because the curtain blocked the sunlight but i still consider the room to be dark.

hmm.gif any different thought on this matter?

What i did to watch them playing is to turn on the bathroom's light and leave the door half open. smile.gif

Cheers

minimum of 12 hours of light to prevent hibernation means we need to give them a minimum a 12 hours of light?
But wenever we turn on light they goes to sleep too...
Mine is 100% dark till i'm in the room which is jus a very few hours and wen i goes to bed its dark again!!

i believe when the article stated "light", it's referring to light as a heat source, not like, light source light.

since animals are usually drawn into recluse and eventually hybernation due to temperature changes :P

^ imo, anyways :)

ninja edit*

also, be careful when heating up your hogs during cold nights, too hot and you could send them into aestivation.

But i dun think u need heating in Malaysia rite?
Its kinda hot here unless its raining season...

Added on August 11, 2011, 3:07 am5. Heat Source

Hedgehogs must be kept at a minimum of 73 degrees Fahrenheit, if not they may attempt to hibernate (potentially fatal). A reptile heating pad, heat lamp, ceramic heat emitter, and space heater are all excellent heat sources. it is also a good idea to buy a theremometer for the room the hedgehog will be kept in.

6. Light Source

Regular light and dark cycles must be provided, to emulate the natural daylight and darkness of night. Hedgehogs must be provided with 12-14 hours of light a day, followed by 12-10 hours darkness. Light need not be from the sun or UVB/UVA bulbs. If this need is not meet, hedgehogs can become depressed, or attempt to hibernate (and possibly die).

I also plan to get one wheel for hedge in Klang Valley.
But, is 11inch still consider small for hedge?
It is 2.54cm less in diameter compare to 12inch.
Does 2.54cm makes a lot different?

i dont think the 1" would make that much of a difference but the main criterias that should be your deciding factors should be the build of the wheels, imo.

does the 11" wheel have any open gaps around the area where your hog would lay it's feet on? since there's always fear of it's tiny nails getting stuck ._x

which part of klang valley are you in? i mentioned two locations in that post you quoted :P

pet lovers center in ss2 mall (ground floor) and ikano power center (top floor). midvalley has a plv chain as well on the top floor, but i'm not sure if they have the wheel.

LOL, he's a tiny one so Dibs sounds just about right for him. wink.gif
I picked up the female hedgehog today, she refused to uncurl from her mini ball.
She's the chubbiest & largest of 'em all.
I guess she got mama's chubby genes.

Hopefully he stays a pinto. Some hedgies change color after quilling. Lol.

Already answered you PM. smile.gif
11 inch isn't much different from 12 inch.
11 inch is just the minimum size wheel for a hedgehog. wink.gif
