Hi im looking to purchase either panasonic th-p42s10k or sonyklv-440v550a/b for my pc use. I use my pc to surf, work, watching movies etc.

Which one should i get?
What is the best price? (panny 3200, sony 4000, or something like that)
Can i read text properly with panny plasma?
I sit about 2 ft form the flat panel. Is it ok with plasma?
Does panny plasma flicker?
What about burn in? should i worried? (not worried bout IR as it was temporary)
Does sony lcd good for watching action movies?

i have done some research on the issue. so i will list down some of the pros and cons that i note/aware.

panasonic th-p42s10k plasma
pro
+high quality picture (wide range colours, no ghosting)
+1:1 pixel match(still needs to confirm the text readability)
+wide viewing angle, no brightspot/darkspot
cons
-heat <40C (when viewed at short distance)
-possible burn in especially with pc use
-noisy picture (noticeable at near distance reducing text readability)
-flicker
-350W
-break-in period

sony klv-440v550a/b lcd
pro
+no heat(watchable at short distance)
+191W
+great for reading text
cons
-low response time (ghosting)
-limited colours
-pricey(for what it delivers)

I want the best image quality suitable for pc use. sony lcd is definately suitable for pc usage, but panny plasma is the best in image quality. right now, im trying to figure out whether panny is suitable for my usage. or, you guys have other lcd suggestion?

thanks. if you think the pro and cons are wrong, do comment.

bro, wouldn't a 40" or 42" screen be too big if you sit just 2ft away?

I have the sony you mentioned here and to me the optimum viewing distance is about 6ft away..

would you be able to read text at that distance? did you connect to pc? How do you define the 'optimum distance'? does the lcd good for watching action movies/sports?

if you surf lowyat.net at 6ft from the the TV is not ok, the optimum distance is for watching movies and gaming, not web surfing and words typing

optimum distance is the best distance for watching movies and gaming where you are able to see the words/subtitle clearly without stressing your eyes or move your position, and also for better picture quality, you wont want to sit 2ft away from a 40" TV, the pixel pitch are too obvious and the degrade of picture quality

for web surfing or normal usage with PC, best is to get PC monitor, they are design for that, if you insist want to go for LCD TV or plasma, you can get 32", and i will recommend you to get LCD TV instead of plasma, because i can see flickering in plasma that make me feel uncomfortable.

to TS,

you'd probably need a video card capable of HD to fully utilize your LCD choices.

granted you have all the right equipment, I would think that surfing/gaming/watching movie/fap fap 6ft away from your LCD wouldn't be a problem.

Sorry, my bad. Yes, 2 feet away from the panny you will feel the heat.

But I just dont understand why'd you use expensive full hd TV with built in tv tuner, primarily for pc-ing? Any 23''/30" full hd display can do the job for far less money. They even come with VGA, DVI & HDMI ports. You need to be careful when matching with suitable GC.

You were right. Lots of flat panel tv features provided are useless(image processing, tuners, etc) as i use my pc for image processing/filtering. But, considering a Dell 30inch is around rm 3000, i guess all those bells and whistle can be considered free and value for money. plus, dell monitor are not really suitable for tv-ing(low contrast ratio)

I think LCD more suitable to you.
And if you really want to sit 2 feet infront of the TV.
32" Full HD LCD is your only choice.
