Apologies for the noob question, but is break-in necessary for all plasmas?
*
All Pros will tell you yes, but realistically, just enjoy yr TV like you used to lah, just avoid static pictures.

Thanks ronnt88 for guidance, will check the two shops.

At the moment are targeting Panny TH42X10K, which I had seen in SenQ and Jusco.

Seems like S10K is a better choice?    hmm.gif

notworthy.gif  to all masters.

Saw the price on Panasonic Malaysia site, TH42S10K sales for RM 3999 and TH42X10K sales for RM 3499.

http://direct.panasonic.com.my/Products.aspx/Category/101

Is there better offer around in Northern area?

What are the bundle normally inside? BD player? SD card? HDMI cable?

Anyone?  unsure.gif
*
RM3999 for 42S10 is the retail price, comes bundled with a power cable and styrofoam. the RRP for the Free BD Player and HDMI cable is RM4999.

To answer you other question, north, south, east, west also can definitely get much better offer than this. I am sure you would have read the few posts after you for some samples smile.gif

I doubt its the X360 video settings, video setting's usually about formats and resolutions, but will still have picture. Is there sound when there's no video? If sound also dun have, maybe you select the wrong HDMI selection? ..... tongue.gif

Hey guys,

An AV technician told me that since i will be sitting more than 3 times the recommended distance from a 50 S10 then i might as well get the cheaper X10 because i wont be able to tell the different between Full HD and HD from such a distance.

How true is this? To truly notice the FULL HD 1080p i must sit very much closer as the recommended sitting which is 2 or 3 times the height of the screen.

Please advice on this matter.
*

How far will you be sitting away from the TV? Reccommended for a 50" FHD TV is around 10'. 3 times, meaning you will be sitting around 30' away?! How big is your room?!

Again, something that needs to be done in service menu, there is a setting called sub-brightness that can be adjusted to bring the set out of black faster or slower. Can you let me know how u adjusted the brightness? Was it using a windowed pattern or full black pattern? What test patterns did u use? Also what r u viewing it with, HTPC, media player?

Calibration shd be done after 200hrs so that the phospors have settled.
*
Wow, meaning that plasma owners will probably have to wait for months before they can fully appreciate their purchase, huh? (thats is, if they do a professional calibration after that). No wonder plasmas' getting a lot of flak, and LCD's the preferred choice for the masses.

LCDs also need to be run in before calibration. The electronics take time to settle down. For LCDs preferably 100hrs. Will they change with time, most definately. Things degrade. Again, remember there are backlights and some things just take time to settle down.

Just a note, they look fine even when it is new, this is just so that the calibration is not wasted if the phospors do ctake longer to settle. Most sets are run-in at least a few hrs at the factory. For some plasmas, 50-100hrs run in at the factory and then QA'ed to see if it is within spec before release. Of course, these things add to the cost of the set...Also most electronics fail within 50hrs or then run for a long time without problems, Early Failure Rate is good to weed out before shipping.
*
This is interesting, do all units go through the 'run-in' process in the factory before going retail? Or just particular brands?

I believe for plasma's all brands do some sort of run in. The more established brands (that are with premiums) do longer run ins, measure them after the run in, check some basic greyscale data and reject the ones that are out of control/spec. In some cases, u can get the data pre and post run in if u input the serial number.

I believe the professional sets have more stringent controls.
*
hmm.. this is new to me as i tot they just send out their units virgin. this also means the plasma's run-in period is longer than said, right, esp most have already clocked some run-in hours from the factory floor itself.

The anti-glare coating play the most important part (which is why some model more expensive than other). In the case of Panasonic 42x10 model, it does have an extra coating and that's why it is more reflective. The older model 42PV80 is more expensive but less reflective (color less vibrant when compare to 42x10)

If possible, position your LCD/PLASMA so that light source will not shine on it or maybe try to dim the light a bit.
*
thats my point. if it is under bright lights as earlier stated, then reflections can never be avoided.
