QUOTE(arremie @ Jul 4 2009, 01:18 PM) I was thinking about this and personally I'm wondering if it's worthwhile doing small upgrade like this within a speaker family.Like RF52 and RF62, same driver family except that for RF62 the woofers are 1" larger. So I imagine the sound character is the same except that bigger woofer means little bit more bass. But do we really need that little bit more bass since we have the sub? Same reasoning applies if you consider T45, T55 and T65. I'm thinking if want to upgrade must look at other sonic criteria (apart from bass) like better imaging or soundstaging, smoother treble, more dynamics, etc. So it means either moving to a different series under the same brand or change brand altogether. What do you all think? |

QUOTE(s6xs9x @ Jul 4 2009, 04:11 PM) The comparison of driver size is not at a full stop, cabinet size contribute to the final sound as well. Signature would probably be the same, fuller body, sound staging, imaging and also dynamics will improve. That is if they are making them right in this case. Well if the cabinet size can affect other areas then that's good. I just never thought if cabinet size alone can contribute to this. |

Agreed it has higher volume of air and I know it can have an impact on bass. Does more air also affect other areas like imaging, treble, etc?

QUOTE(s6xs9x @ Jul 5 2009, 09:05 AM) I think it's not how much louder the bass would be, but rather how full it'll sound (please correct me if it's wrong). If I'm not wrong, then it'll have more body and weight, it will normally sound bigger wrapping you with it's tune. I wasn't only referring to loudness but yes all those things you mentioned about fullness, body and weight, etc can happen. But my point is, is it better to upgrade the main speakers to get bigger woofer or upgrade the sub?You should be able to get more depth and layering. I guess it's that way. Htkaki, why not borrow a RF62 and make a shoot out? hehehe .. Remy u up for a demo and comparison? Even if we had a RF-62 to do shootout how do we know the difference we hear is caused by the bigger driver or the bigger cabinet? The only way to isolate the effect of just the cabinet size alone is to have same drivers and put into larger cabinet. Of course this cannot be done in the real world, so this is just me wondering aloud. One thing I have read about bigger cabinets is that at least for the tweeter the cabinet area around it should be smaller to improve dispersion. That's why in some speakers the top section where the tweeter is located is tapered a bit narrower. |

QUOTE(ronaldjoe @ Aug 19 2009, 07:47 PM) Seeing from klipsch forum is that even RT-12d is still lacking compared to SVS. That's the classic price vs performance conundrum. How much are you willing to pay for increase in performance, bearing in mind also the law of diminishing returns. If you pay 50% more, will you get 50% more performance?RW-12d isn't as expensive as SVS. So what's your view? |
