Wrong Turn one was good, the rest...

I believe the first one the one of the very last thing Stan Winston worked on before he passed away...

A lot of shot ever practical effect rather then CGI, which makes it look more realistic

I believe all three movies are about the same homicidal family...

Hi

You have to understand that I'm really old school so you might not agree with my selection.

A good movie for me is usually more of the unusual and offbeat side.

Here is my list

From Hell 2001
Johnny Depp in another dark tale. Interesting how he started his career in Nightmare on Elm Street! A modern take on Jack the Ripper. This movie is really suspenseful and tense.

From Dusk Till Dawn 1996
This is actually two movies, first part VERY Quentin Tarantino and the second Robert Rodriguez. Really unusual movie, very hard to define

Thir13en Ghosts 2001
Robert Zemecski and Joe Silver, reintroduce old horror movie in new light. They were suppose to make one every year but had stop after Gothika... Like the little stories they created for each ghost. Interesting spin on what true horror is.

very old school huh.. the 'oldest' (and the best maybe, i didnt watch much scary movies) i ever watched are It (1990) (Stephen King stuff).. i watched it during my primary school days. that clown ghost scared me very much back then sweat.gif

in my younger days, i like Twilight Zone.. i believe they re-make this series in early 2000 (but i didnt bother to watch it)

ill give try to your recommendations.. thanks..

Case 39 (2009)

This movie was heavily criticized when it first came out.

It is VERY heavily influence by Japanese horror (storyline wise)

Jodelle Ferland plays Lilith Sullivan (aptly named if you understand the origins of the name Lilith). An abused child of Edward Sullivan (played by Callum Keith Rennie) and Kerry O'Malley (played by Margaret Sullivan)

Renée Zellweger is a social worker who ended up with 39th case (get, GET IT!! tongue.gif) and Bradley Cooper plays a child psychologist (very UNDER USED character).

What I would praise about this movie is the work of Hagen Bogdanski (Cinematography) who with very clever camera work plays up Lilith Sullivan angel and demon act (children has very interesting proportions [eg. big head long limbs])

A passable horror movie if you have nothing better to do

Case 39

dont like it. ive a huge expectation after i watched the trailer (all movies does)

totally agree with Japanese influence.

i believe they started really well (until the main protagonist adopt the problematic girl). after that, its going downhill.

3/10 from me..

Wrong Turn

quiet similar outlet to The Hills Have Eyes, but on Wrong Turn the creatures /human freak are more animals, they only want to kill the travelers. no explanation what so ever about their existence and they are small in numbers.

rating 5/10

I kinda like the technical expects of the movie

Because it is produce by Stan Winston, most effect were practical

I LOVE the tree part laugh.gif

the scene when the freaks burning the watch tower and all 3 remaining survivor try to jump to save their lives?

its OK ish, but i do think the third jumper (Eliza Deshku) seem to break her back bone (her back hit huge tree branch backwardly on her jump), but unsurprisingly she seem OK. i think they use dummy rather stuntwoman on that particular scene.

Joy Ride [2001]

this is my type of horror movie. i never like ghost story, illogical stuff or supernatural thingy. just ordinary human antagonist do horrible things. though i think what the antagonist did on this movie are quiet illogical, never mind..

2 brothers in a long highway trip, playing prank with unknown truck driver via radio. and the prank turn a disaster when the stranger felt offended with the prank.

solid 7/10 rclxms.gif

To each of their own, everyone has their own "horror moment" in their life time.

Some say was this... others say its that...

For me, if it gives a good scare and has a good plot to scare the nerves out of our skin, that's a good horror movie.

this. im not big fan of horror movie simply because i dont believe in ghost generally. something to do with my faith. so no matter how scary it is, i just think, 'meh, thats not plausible'.. tongue.gif

just limit myself to 'non-ghost horror movies'..

Anyone here watched the William Defoe movie Antichrist?? Heard it was sick
*
watched, almost a year ago. few sick scenes (porn torture). the scene of the woman cutting her own c******* are too much to stomach for me.

opened with explicit /unsimulated sex scene (body double i guess).

i can class it as mindf*** movies. overall just so-so, but not forgettable..

Tormented [2009] - UK

teen high school horror. a deceased teenager coming back from his death and haunt (and kill) his bullier.

verdict: i love UK movie and i got a high hopes since it rated quite highly in Rotten Tomatoes /IMDB. but meh, i dont like it. interesting scene, one of the victim fight back with the ghost (fist fight) and almost knock him out. 5/10.

moral of the story: never be a bully or be ignorance.

Crush [2009] - Australian

a house caretaker having crush with mysterious visitor, and end up betraying his girlfriend.

verdict: i dont have any idea this is a horror movie, i assumed it just another typical teen romance movie (with hot scenes wub.gif ). and another meh, poor ending and total disappointing. 4/10.

moral of the story: if u want to be unfaithful, make sure u do it with real human.
