My bad, it's Haute Tension tongue.gif

user posted image

Like the movie title, this movie has a lot of "tension" moments. And i do mean a lot! It seemed like a crazed serial killer stalking movie feel...not wanting to ruin any spoilers, lets just say that you'll be entertained. smile.gif

Audition

user posted image

Directed by Takeshi Miike. This movie needs some patience into it because its 2 hours long and the first hour is pretty slow. Single parent wants to go dating, best friend sets up a fake "audition" for pretty ladies, he dates one of them, then boom. This movie can literally blow your mind off when you get to see her "real" self. Director Rob Zombie and Eli Roth mentioned this film before in the top 20 (or was it top 50 horror movies) as being the most, screwed up movie ever.

Suicide Club aka Suicide Circle

user posted image

Another bizzare jap film. A recent epidemic of suicide trend happening in Japan, involving mostly teenage high school girls.

Black Christmas (1974)

user posted image

The mother lode of slasher films. Unlike many slasher films, this one puts you in the "eyes" of the killer. One scene involving a girl suffocated through a plastic bag, like in the picture. Her dead facial expression with her blank dead eyes, managed to freak out the entire movie audiences.

Cube (my bad, it's Canadian)

user posted image

Trapped people in a strange labyrinth of "cubes" filled with death traps, best way to describe the movie.

Outpost (UK, my bad)

user posted image

Nazi super soldiers vs. mercenaries. Awesomeness.

Eden Lake (UK)

user posted image

Really, i hate spoilt kids after watching this movie.

I can't believe this thread is back up alive again lol

I've seen Suicide Circle, it's pretty gruesome but it makes my head hurts. Most jap horror tend to make my head hurts.

Thanks, de4thscythell, for that update! I love Outpost and i can't wait for the sequel to come out. Love that teaser poster they made. Awesome.

I've seen the remake of "My Bloody Valentine" but what i really watch is the original Bloody Valentine. Both seems to be good enough.

Mov_freak: Dead Snow is a fun movie to watch, gore packed with comedy.

I still haven't finished watching Paranormal Activity yet, midway of the film, it gets really, really creepy. I can't stand it

I managed to "obtain" the movie Ravenous (1999) starring Guy Pearce and Robert Carlyle. It brings a lot of good nostalgic memories that involves black humor, horror, gore and cannibalism.

So is it safe for me to assume you had watched

The Blob (1988)
The Stuff (1985)
The Puppet Masters (1994) [The one with Donald Sutherland and NOT the one with the anak patung!!?]
Village of the Damned (1960)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

Yes?
*
I had watched majority of the listed films

The Blob for both the old 1958s version and the 1988s version

The Stuff, wish i watched it but can't "find" it

I have watched both Puppet Masters (ala Body Snatchers version with Donald Sutherland) and majority of the "original" Puppet Masters sequels

I have watched the original Village of the Damned (1960s version) and the 1995s remake with Christopher Reeve

I have watched the 1978s version of the Body Snatchers, ironically never watched the original version but did watched the 2007s remake.

Perhaps you want some interesting films...such as... "Cannibal Holocaust: Cannibals vs Commandos"

I find it hilarious to see japanense tribesmen eatting american commandos

I would also recommend to everyone to watch the 1983's Sleepaway Camp (not the remake, although the original actress is in the remake i believe)

Want horror? Watch Grotesque (or better known as Gurotesuku)... and that's horror.
*
Grosteque is just gore porn, unlike horror, its not suppose to make you throw up like how gore porn is intended to do, like Guinea Pig: Flowers of Flesh and Blood.

Unless you want the 2007 released Poughkeepsie Tapes, now that's interesting (unless you want gore porn, i believe this movie do not have such detailed gore porn you required)

Hi Sadist Reaper... Interesting moniker! smile.gif

Thank you for sharing.

Can you please let us know, for the movies you had the chance to watched, what you think of them?

One movie that I've always wanted to watched but never had a chance to get a copy of is

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! (1978)

There was another version of Body Snatchers (1993). It had a somewhat big budget (for the time)  and the only thing worth mention about THAT version is the Gabriel Anwar. Don't even get me started on the latest inception (Plastic Kidman!!!)

The Stuff is a little bit like the Blob, except people ate it (like frozen yogurt) and then strange things started to happen.

Question, have you watched Needful Things, based on Stephen Kings book with Max Von Sydow as lead? If yes, what do you think?
*
My bad, i thought you meant something else, forget about what i mentioned earlier. I think i would preffer the old classics (i meant the 70s/80s classics, not the 40s-60s) than the modern current horror films. The modern horror films relied too much either to CG effects or have too much gore to compensate the horror and to cater the gore hounds. They don't make good old horror films like they used to, where they relied special effects (rather than CG) and not overused the gore, but it doesn't mean that there isn't any good horror films in the current modern times. Take Paranormal Activity, it's simple but terrifying and don't take up much of budget, effects or even CG.

That's my take, i hope that's what you meant of what i think about them.

I did watched Attack of the Killer Tomatoes...it was the most ridiculous movie i have ever seen, i rented a VHS video of it and even watched the animation version for it too. Fun to watch, if you're willing to just accept that tomatoes can really kill people.

Yes, i do have a copy of Needful things, it's a bit draggy but it gets quite interesting once the characters have set in. I say, the movie is pretty good but the movie didn't deliver what Stephen King wrote in the book. In the book, there were utter chaos, deaths, it may even looked that the town were hit by an amarggeddon. But the end of the movie, it didn't deliver as much chaos or deaths as depicted in the book. I say, yes, i would recommend people to watch this. Leland Gaunt in the movie, showed as a very, charismatic person, smooth talking and manipulative "salesman" (like the devil).

Last year, i managed to watch the original Last House from the Left and then the recent release remake. The original film involved more rape compared to the remake. As far as the revenge goes, i preffered the old one better.

I also managed to "obtain" the original 1973's Crazies, haven't had the time to watch it yet. But i did manage to watch the remake.

Yup, those are horror, although (please DON'T KILL me) I think Japanese and Korean horror are kinda in a funk as well.

There "ghost" are very similar looking...
*
I gotta agree with you on this, i'm not a big fan with jap horror. After the Ring and Ju On, i think i remembered that there's half of the jap/korean horror films involved with some female ghost, with long hair covering their faces and wearing some white dress. Not sure why everyone's so into these kinda horror films (probably the hype after the Ring/Ju On films) but everyone's picking up the pace like Thai's Shutter, or even our Malaysian made films that involves these kinda ghosts. Kinda tiring to see these "ghosts".

Why are you laugh.gif when you said "It squeeze itself in and out of everything everywhere"  hmm.gif smile.gif

Yes, the anak patung Puppetmaster wasn't very good, which was why I stated Donald Sutherland one not the anak patung one!

I've never got to watch the 1978 Body Snatcher... now you make me itch to see it!! laugh.gif
*
Yup, Puppetmaster series (not Donald Sutherland's) are not really that great, some of the sequels from 1 - 3 were average at best. But its what Full Moon productions made such cult films. I like the cheesiness of the entire series. Blade's one of my favorite characters, wish i bought the action figures for them.

I also am curious of wanting to "obtain" the 2001 released, called Slashers. Its canadian produced movie and the sypnosis is about a japanese's number 1 reality tv show called, well, "Slashers", having the contestents go through arena (or something) and avoid getting killed by the "Slashers", and try to make it to the end to win millions of dollars cash prize. A direct attempt to make a parody regarding japanese reality tv shows contests.

Also, IMBD gave a 5.4 out of 10, an average and not be taken too seriously, considering the absurdity of the story line itself.

I also will be needing to "obtain" the 1977's Shock Wave. Never had the chance to watch it and its difficult to "obtain" it. Nazi undead underwater super soldiers, its quite an interesting premise.

And finally, 1974's Black Christmas, i haven't had the chance to watch this either. Killer's first person perspective is interesting

Wow, you love your Horror B-Movie (I assure you this is NOT an insult!!)

I'm afraid I had not had the chance to see the above

I haven't even had a chance to watched the original Piranha (1978)!! Reason being, 1) cannot get a "copy" 2) was too young to sneak into the cinema when it first showed... sad.gif

I think I have the Japenese movie 9part 1 & 2 right) about a group of japanese high school kids who were shipped to an isolated area and then were given weapon and told to play hide and seek with each out (Battle Royale??) Or am I completely wrong...

icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Yup, that's Battle Royale alright. I never liked the sequel, somehow, the feel of the movie for Battle Royale in the sequel isn't there like in the first film...actually, not too sure why they need a sequel for this film since the novel already ended just like in the first film. I read the manga, way too much porno.

No, i haven't watch the 1978's version of Piranhna. Regretfully, i watched the 1995's version of Piranhna. It was...horendously bad. But not as bad as watching "Biker Zombies".

Speaking of "animals" based horror, sorta, i like the 1990's Arahnophobia, starring Jeff Daniels, it's pretty good movie (IMBD gave it 6.2 out of 10). My first viewing, ironically, was in RTM Tv, then my second viewing was in Astro. I wish i gotten my hands on a DVD on this movie.

Also, if you like dogs, never forget the 1983's Stephen King's Cujo and 1993's Man's Best Friend.

I need to watch the 1990's Misery, starring Kathy Bates. I seen the trailers and a bit of talk from some top 100 horror movies in youtube, and i'm pretty interested to watch this. One of Kathy Bates' great films about obssessive fan trapping her favorite romance novel writer in her home. Pretty gripping stuff

You can say "porno" in this forum!!?? laugh.gif
I do LIKE Arachnophobia, and have a good copy on DVD!! smile.gif Nope watching movies like THAT on RTM is definitely a killjoy!! I also have a good copy of Cujo in DVD and also something I like very much (you can see what I like on the first few page of this forum). Like this alot more then Eight Legged Freaks THAT'S for sure!! smile.gif
Yup have this on DVD and like it too. smile.gif

Speaking of Animals, have you had a chance to see Pet Semetary? nod.gif??
*
Oh yes, i had watched this...i think from Astro (can't remember, memory's too fuzzy). Undead cat (was it a cat?) and little girl makes awesome viewing

I had finished watching The Human Centipede (First Sequence), i'm ashamed to admit it, but i can't help but laugh at the victims, even before the good old doctor explained about his surgical brilliance and the aftermath. The entire premise of having a victim's lips sewn to another person's anus and feeding the victim, just simply cracks me up. Dieter Laser is a pretty good actor, he's like the German version of Christopher Walken.

Speaking of Christopher Walken, i need to "obtain" Prophecy, one of his great films.

QUOTE(hackwire @ May 29 2010, 12:15 PM)
Horror movies are now even interwined with slasher movies. Good slasher movies that horrify audience are saw, the cell, hostel, vacancy, ruins, eden lake, the house on the left, the funny game, the turista , perfect getaway , the joyride, breakdown, seven etc
*
Actually, SAW and Hostel aren't even in the slasher sub genre. They're torture/gore porn.

Ruins is a monster flick.

The Cell is a psychological thriller

Eden Lake is a horror thriller

The Last House on the Left is a video nasty

Slashers films involves killers in masks (or scarred, depending on what occasion/season/theme) like the famous ones consisting of Jason Vorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, Pinhead, Ghostface (from Scream franchise), and the not so famous Valentine Killer (from the Valentine film, starring David Boreanaz or Angel from Buffy tv series), the Fisherman (from I know what you did last summer), the Urban Legend killer (from Urban Legends)

According to Wiki: Slasher film is a sub-genre of the horror film genre typically involving a psychopathic killer stalking, and killing a sequence of victims in a graphically violent manner, often with a cutting tool such as a chainsaw or scythe. Although the term "slasher" may be used as a generic term for any horror movie involving graphic acts of murder, the slasher as a genre has its own set of characteristics which set it apart from related genres like the splatter film.

And typically, the last survivor is usually the female lead (who's usually the purist of them all in the film)

Speaking of which, if any of us is in a Slasher film, i doubt any of us survives since we don't meet the prerequesites of the "survivor".

Wow, the slasher sub genre is generating alot of discussion.

To me slasher movies are like Halloween and Friday the 13th.

My favorite is Scream!! smile.gif

Lots of wit and twist.

Interesting how they get someone as famous as Drew Barrymore and snuffed her less then 5 minutes into the movie, also the first time I saw Rose McGowan!! laugh.gif
*
I too, really like watching the first Scream film. There were a lot of twists, and i didn't expect that there were TWO killers in the end. And i was also quite surprised that a big name like Drew Barrymore just gotten killed off like in the first 5-10 mins. Really great stuff. The sequels however, are not great.

QUOTE(xy2610 @ May 30 2010, 02:38 PM)
Dewey survived the first trilogy of Scream and he is a male secondary character in Scream though Sydney is the female lead.

According to Scream,

Rules of Surviving a Slasher Film,
1.You can never have sex.
2.You can never drink or do drugs. (The "sin factor, an extension of number one".)
3.Never, ever, EVER, under any circumstances say "I'll be right back", 'cause you won't be back.

laugh.gif
*
I almost forgot about Dewey, and also the reporter too.

I think if given a choice to try to survive in a Slasher film (and most likely getting killed from one), i would definitely would choose a classic slasher theme like Friday the 13th or Halloween. Any others would be horrifyingly painful death, especially when it comes to Nightmare on Elm Street or Hellraiser.

Seriously, no Italian Horror fans here?
LOL!

Just watched Demons and Zombi 2 back to back.
Quite entertaining despite of bad acting, silly dialogue, plotless story and early 80s make up.
Yay! Confronted my childhood fear,  laugh.gif
*
I'm not much into Italian work, most of the films that i watched involved Italian horror sexploitation films, which tend to be really dull with its storyline and horror (except the copious amount of nudity)

Zombi is actually pretty great with their special effects. What other zombie movies lets you watch a zombie going up against a shark? Simply awesomeness

Demons and Demons 2 are pretty great stuff, again, the effects is pretty disgusting and pretty well done

I did watched a few Italian horror films, especially from Dario Argento's work such as the 1977's Suspiria, the 1985's Phenomena and the 2001's Sleepless

Have you watched the remake? And the sequel too? Pretty bizarre stuff for the sequel. Its the ending that really made me screamed out, not in horror, but "What?!"
