+1 to An American Werewolf in London 1981. I was scared as hell when i was watching is as a kid. It was a very good movie. biggrin.gif

Yup Rick Baker did a fantastic job with the makeup effects. You should watch it in High Def when you get the chance.

QUOTE(murv90 @ Apr 29 2010, 12:09 AM)
i dont think this movie is that scary. its only nice in the movies bcause of the big screen and sound effects. not so scary or spooky when u watch it alone at home.

Quite old movie directed by Peter Jackson.. it's like a zombie movie but not about the dead coming back to life.. they look like normal people but actually zombie.. as usual with Peter jackson's movie like Dead Alive/Braindead.. its gore level is top notch.. not for the weak stomach haha.. quite funny too.. more like a light zombie movie, not scary, just very ewwwww

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

Okay, I was bored yesterday. It was showing in the cinema opposite from my apartment, so I went.

The original nightmare (1984) was... well lacking a better term original (storyline concept etc)

Hollywood is out of ideas. They had resorted to pinching from Asia and remaking popular horror movies!

Now, how does the latest re-imagination fare?

Visually GREAT

Sonically FANTASTIC

Storyline, is tweaked for modern audiences and kinda worked.

I do have a few peeves to pick with the movie though

so, how does Jackie Earle Haley vs Robert Englund?

I have to say, I've always been a fan of Wes Craven Nightmare (my favorites are 1,3 and new Nightmare)

I like this re-imagined version Nightmare more then I did the re-imagine version of Friday The 13th.

Then again, I never really "GOT" the Friday the 13th series....

There are several 3D "horror" movie coming out soon.

The one around the corner is Resident Evil: After Life 3D

I think they are making Piranha 3D as well.

Satisfied yet?? smile.gif

i really not appeal to these 3D movie stuff. For me it just a gimmick. I never care about picture quality as long as it watchable even on SD. That's why i like most of B-horror movie from 60's - 80's because the story and horror is so interesting.

I had watched majority of the listed films

The Blob for both the old 1958s version and the 1988s version

The Stuff, wish i watched it but can't "find" it

I have watched both Puppet Masters (ala Body Snatchers version with Donald Sutherland) and majority of the "original" Puppet Masters sequels

I have watched the original Village of the Damned (1960s version) and the 1995s remake with Christopher Reeve

I have watched the 1978s version of the Body Snatchers, ironically never watched the original version but did watched the 2007s remake.

Perhaps you want some interesting films...such as... "Cannibal Holocaust: Cannibals vs Commandos"

I find it hilarious to see japanense tribesmen eatting american commandos

I would also recommend to everyone to watch the 1983's Sleepaway Camp (not the remake, although the original actress is in the remake i believe)

Grosteque is just gore porn, unlike horror, its not suppose to make you throw up like how gore porn is intended to do, like Guinea Pig: Flowers of Flesh and Blood.

Unless you want the 2007 released Poughkeepsie Tapes, now that's interesting (unless you want gore porn, i believe this movie do not have such detailed gore porn you required)

Hi Sadist Reaper... Interesting moniker! smile.gif

Thank you for sharing.

Can you please let us know, for the movies you had the chance to watched, what you think of them?

One movie that I've always wanted to watched but never had a chance to get a copy of is

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! (1978)

There was another version of Body Snatchers (1993). It had a somewhat big budget (for the time) and the only thing worth mention about THAT version is the Gabriel Anwar. Don't even get me started on the latest inception (Plastic Kidman!!!)

The Stuff is a little bit like the Blob, except people ate it (like frozen yogurt) and then strange things started to happen.

Question, have you watched Needful Things, based on Stephen Kings book with Max Von Sydow as lead? If yes, what do you think?

My bad, i thought you meant something else, forget about what i mentioned earlier. I think i would preffer the old classics (i meant the 70s/80s classics, not the 40s-60s) than the modern current horror films. The modern horror films relied too much either to CG effects or have too much gore to compensate the horror and to cater the gore hounds. They don't make good old horror films like they used to, where they relied special effects (rather than CG) and not overused the gore, but it doesn't mean that there isn't any good horror films in the current modern times. Take Paranormal Activity, it's simple but terrifying and don't take up much of budget, effects or even CG.

That's my take, i hope that's what you meant of what i think about them.

I did watched Attack of the Killer Tomatoes...it was the most ridiculous movie i have ever seen, i rented a VHS video of it and even watched the animation version for it too. Fun to watch, if you're willing to just accept that tomatoes can really kill people.

Yes, i do have a copy of Needful things, it's a bit draggy but it gets quite interesting once the characters have set in. I say, the movie is pretty good but the movie didn't deliver what Stephen King wrote in the book. In the book, there were utter chaos, deaths, it may even looked that the town were hit by an amarggeddon. But the end of the movie, it didn't deliver as much chaos or deaths as depicted in the book. I say, yes, i would recommend people to watch this. Leland Gaunt in the movie, showed as a very, charismatic person, smooth talking and manipulative "salesman" (like the devil).

Last year, i managed to watch the original Last House from the Left and then the recent release remake. The original film involved more rape compared to the remake. As far as the revenge goes, i preffered the old one better.

I also managed to "obtain" the original 1973's Crazies, haven't had the time to watch it yet. But i did manage to watch the remake.

I gotta agree with you on this, i'm not a big fan with jap horror. After the Ring and Ju On, i think i remembered that there's half of the jap/korean horror films involved with some female ghost, with long hair covering their faces and wearing some white dress. Not sure why everyone's so into these kinda horror films (probably the hype after the Ring/Ju On films) but everyone's picking up the pace like Thai's Shutter, or even our Malaysian made films that involves these kinda ghosts. Kinda tiring to see these "ghosts".

The 1988 remake of The Blob freaked me out.
It squeeze itself in and out of everything everywhere.
laugh.gif

Did not watch Donald Sutherland's Puppet Monster.
But the one with puppets is not a good movie.
Speaking of Donald Sutherland, should try Don't Look Now.

Only watched the 1978 version of the Body Snatcher.
It started off slow but it is very good once the body snatchers started to take over the town.
And the ending.....ARRRGGGGHHHHH!

Hi Bishop

I'm fine thank you and you?

Yeah, am staying away from the HT forum, too many toys, NOT enough "M"!! sad.gif

Glad you are enjoying your setup.

I did like the new A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Graphic is good, sound good and the story line works (they tweak the storyline a little)

I had some issues with the "young un" they cast, but can live with it.

As for a good horror BD to give your setup a good run in, I'll recommend Drag me To Hell. Beware, this movie is either you love it or you hate it.

I LUV it!!

Other recommendation for BD work out are would be

I Am Legend (2007)
Underworld: Rise of the Lycan (2009)
Hellboy 1 & 2 (2004 & 2008)
Constantine (2005)
The Mist (2007)
Angel Heart (1987 a very SLOW movie, but the ending is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious) laugh.gif
Identity (2003)
Stir of Echoes (1999)
From Hell (2001)

Enough for now??

So when you say you GF is sadistic, you mean she practicing her skills on you... laugh.gif (I'm bad.....)

I think new movie bosses and director are so amoured by CGI they sometime forget the story is important.

Take Pixar for example, they are at the cutting age of CGI but they NEVER produce a movie, BEFORE they get the story right, which is why their movie does so well. Disney used to be like Pixar and after Walt Disney dead, people over at Disney continued making animation without scripts (something that Walt Disney pioneered??) and their animation didn't sell from then on (The Great Mouse Detective and Black Cauldron comes to mind). The then CEO, put his foot down and stated that the next animation they made, HAD TO HAVE a script and THAT animation was Little Mermaid and it made a lot of money in the box office. It THEN dawned on them that they reason they didn't need script when Walt Disney was around, was because HE WAS the LIVING SCRIPT! He knew exactly what story he wanted to tell and he guided the animator through the story process.

Yes, thank you for sharing.

as for Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, it's called CAMP!! I LIKE CAMP!!!?! laugh.gif

Max Von Sydow is great as Leland Gaunt (THE devil). I really REALLY like this movie. I haven't read the book. Surprisingly, I DON'T read Stephen kings books. Please DON"T kill me!! smile.gif

Last House from the Left, I've only managed to watched the remake so cannot compare.

Haven't watched the original Crazies neither, how is the remake. have seen the trailer and it seems interesting.

Paranormal activity is a GREAT example of how to make a spooky movie without a GAZILLION dollar for special effect and "popular" actors!!

Thanks for sharing again Sadistic Reaper
