Another day, another reboot. The premise differ a bit from the OG but unsure it can be as effective...
I don't remember liking the original...

Crawl (2019)
I absolutely, positively & categorically LOVE this movie. It has thrills. It has spills. It has gore. Some scenes will make you apprehensive. Some scenes will leave you at awe, abhor, dread, disgusted, dismayed, panic, loath and terrified. This is what is odd, you WILL love it too. In the vein of The Shallows (2016), so if you love that, you will love this here. Fun Fact (I googled): Saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) are estimated to swim at speeds of up to 15 kilometers. The french swimmer Frédérick Bousquet set world record in the 50 m freestyle with a time of 20.94 seconds (Average of 8.6km) So, no, humans cannot swim faster than a crocodile. Even with this boo boo, this movie is one heck of an entertaining movie. Haley (played by Kaya Scodelario [last seen in Maze Runner]) is really good here. Dave (played by Barry Pepper [I don't believe I did not get famous from Battlefield Earth (2000)]) is believable too. I think the only this I would criticize about this movie for is... every character seems to be dealt from... a loaf of white bread??? Please do note that I am joking... On THAT note, this is only my two sen This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Jul 15 2019, 11:52 AM |

QUOTE(6UE5T @ Jul 15 2019, 09:20 AM) Yup similar to the Shallows and 47 Meters Down but more gory. Hmmm.... It's alligator btw, not crocodile but yeah should be more or less similar capability. The only explanation is maybe the Gators were further away and also didn't immediately noticed her when she swam to the boat. ☺️ I always thought that Crocs are the "fat" face ones and Gators are the thin face ones... Or is it the other way round... This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Jul 15 2019, 03:17 PM |

QUOTE(6so @ Jul 15 2019, 02:11 PM) Urmmm...B-movie premise la, high suspension of disbelief is the point! Yes, wounds don't go septic, people don't bleed to death, you mean these tiny normal everyday logic?? In reality the movie ends when Haley got mauled the first time. She can run and swim like a champion afterward. Gator chomping her hand also no worries. At the end, the pacing and tension overshadowed those minor movie logic nitpicking. Oh yeah, I forgot, she is an Apex Predator!! Having said that, pretty "fun" movie. Steven Spielberg (Jaws) should be proud. This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Jul 15 2019, 03:21 PM |

It Chapter Two (2019)
It is no secret, I liked the 2017 IT. Casting, Sets and direction were spot on! So, how does the second one fare? Well, casting is great. Apart from Bill (James McAvoy), the other adult casts do look like their younger counterpart. James Ransone really capture his younger counterpart mannerism. Kudos The direction and cinematography started great. Shots were well planned and followed on well with what was done in the first movie. Story-wise... it suffers a little. And I blame the source material. This movie suffers the same issue I had with the book. The cutting back and forth between the past and present, made the flow of the movie a little clunky at times. I am also not sure if they shot the kids bits during the first episode, because they look the same as when they were in the first movie (eg. kids grow up so quickly) I did guess Richie Tozier's secret and I have to admit, I got the subject wrong.... Am I making sense? So, overall, great movie. Would have been better if there are more scary. As per usual, the above is my two sen. This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Sep 7 2019, 09:53 AM |

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019)
I LOVE THIS MOVIE TO BITS!! Here is why 1) Guillermo del Toro wrote some of the screenplay (YEAH!!!) 2) Director, André Øvredal did a really good job. 3) In the first 5 minutes, most of the main characters were introduced in one shot. Masterful 4) With a budget of USD 25,000,000 (pittance, by Hollywood standard) they managed to do alot. Nothing about this movie, feels "cheap" 5) The cast is GREAT. 6) Main story is very involving!! 7) Sets are really convincing (Story takes place in the 60s... Set designer Patricia Larman did good). What gave me the "huh"???? Gil Bellows is reduced to playing... Chief Turner??! Why so little back story for the short stories?? Don't get me wrong, they are spooky (one FREAKED me out, SO BAD!!). I just think they would be more impact-ful, if there were a little more back story to them. Okay they have a dash of familiarity about them and then you go, "did THAT just happened"? Also I am not sure if this is the intention » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « All in all, one of my favorite horror movie for 2019. Are you planning to watch it, if you do, please leave a comment Above is just, My Two Sen. |

![]() The Grudge (2020) Honestly, I only have a vague memory of the original Japanese horror movie. Alot of school girls, a little boy covered in "chalk" powder and emo eye makeup Also, an invalid old Japanese lady... That is it... And, honestly, I wasn't looking to watch a movie today. I found out that this was on, and rushed to the cinema to watch this. I remember the trailer intrigued me, so I was in a darken movie theater, and watched the movie I was interrupted twice by my own phone (I could have sworn I put in on silence). This movie is a little "multiple personality". In one hour, thirty four minutes, it tried to tell 4 stories, and it can get confusing... To make matters worst, some character are in two of the stories.... Additionally, is it me or are guy characters in present day movies, get... the shower scene... (as depicted in the poster...) I know what they tried to do. There are not so much scary scenes, more of gore scenes. And you know kinda when they appear... Will it sell to horror fans... Well, the branding would sell to most horror fan. Did I enjoy this? If the confusion of all the stories were better edited, maybe I would have been more entertained. Or, maybe I am just a jaded old fart movie lover.... My Two Sen... This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Jan 2 2020, 11:10 PM |

Needful Things (1993) (Addendum)
This movie is one of my favorite horror movie. This horror is not the in your face horror like Freddie Kruger. Instead horror here is expressed by how people treat people.... Yes, the devil is in this movie. And no... all the horror in this movie, is not done by the devil per say, let me break one of my own law of not revealing any plot in my review here by stating in this movie, the devil tempts you by flaming your greed and getting you to decide what choices you make. For a full break down/comparison between the original release and this TV Extended Cut (eg director's cut) please goto the below link Needful Things Theatrical Version vs TBS Extended Version I cannot tell you how happy I am to discover this "new release", because it allows me to see new scenes that I have never imagine existed, for a movie that I really like. How is this cut compared with the original cut, the original cut flows much better and does the story telling efficiently. The director's cut is 3 hours long and gives alot of background details for the different character, and as the name suggest, works better and a TV cut. I finally understood the significance of the bronze bell on top of the door, in the shop Needful Things. The original cut, seem like a remaster to me, picture wise, this movie never looked better My only let down was the audio is DTS Master Audio, stereo only... If you are a fan, or if you have not seen this movie before, I really recommend this movie. My Two Sen This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Feb 26 2020, 02:54 PM |

QUOTE(sweet_pez @ Mar 4 2020, 07:56 PM) Ghost Stories (2017) Pretty good, right.Summary (from IMDB) Skeptical professor Phillip Goodman embarks on a trip to the terrifying after being given a file with details of three unexplained cases of apparitions. My thoughts: Not bad at all. I mean it wasn't the best of horror movies but this is definitely a good watch imo. Enjoyed the film, and even the rare jump scares are pretty good. There's a plot twist in this and it's definitely the least of your expectation. Good British horror is... /koff rare /koff but do give this one a chance. ![]() |

QUOTE(sweet_pez @ Mar 5 2020, 09:53 AM) Betul. The 3 stories were pretty good on its own. For some reason it was just plain creepy... and then you have the unexpected ending It has a very "clever" script.Apparently there's quite some Easter eggs/ hints along the show, just that we didn't notice. Have you watch Scary Stories to Tell In The Dark? I do hope they make part 2 |
