Coming from the maker of Goodnight Mommy, rest assured this is not your shallow Hollywood brain-dead type of variety. It's the methodical slow burn of event changes and how you know the foregone disaster ending gonna be. You are just trapped in the situation and can't escape the impending doom. That's what makes this psychology thriller above the others. It doesn't sugar coat with stupid horror cliché but laying out all the chess pieces for you to see. Riley Keough is this generation of Parker Posey, the powerhouse indie queen. Her acting elevated this thriller couple of notches. Like Goodnight Mommy, it's the kids that you have to be weary of...

This year's A24 horror flick. Alex Garland with Jessie Buckley. This pairing already a foregone conclusion it will be something to look forward to.

Buckle up boys and girls. This is your latest most horrific thing you can watch this generation. In the past we have Cannibal Holocaust, Martyr, A Serbian Film, etc...Well The Sadness will be joining that list. The film borrow from one of the most disturbing comic book by Garth Ennis, Crossed. A virus caused human to be deranged mindless killers. They don't just kill, they also violate their victims. So be prepared to be drowned in really graphic violence and plenty of sexual assault going on in the movie. My wife got really pissed at me when she walks in unannounced during that mothereffing of a gratuitous zombie orgy. She hurled her paperback book at me. Just for context.

You watch this for bragging rights. By the way the movie directed by a Canadian who happens to work in Taiwan. So it's not an Asian handiwork. Nah we have yet to reach their sick demented level yet.

My main issue with the movie is

This is a dark movie.

It's a Blumhouse production. That's their release tactics. Moderate hits can go sequel. The Purge, Happy Death Day, Split, etc... Furthermore the production cost is spare change to Universal and Joe Hill already drafted a roadmap to sequels.

The Last Voyage of Demeter - In short the movie expanded the single page narrative of Dracula sailing from Romania to London. So the entire crew of Demeter became food for Dracula is the premise of the movie.

This is an OK watch. Tamper your expectation cause this is not a reinvention of Dracula or deconstructing your typical humans trapped by a monster in one location. If I'm not mistaken the director did Trollhunter which was quite a cult hit. There's some competency in his film direction but being a Hollywood production, you can't shake off the over produced vibe. Rudimentary by the numbers script. It's not a shitshow but bearable to watch if you have time to spare.

Exhuma - I want to like this but the second arc is just stupid. I was thoroughly enjoyed the set-up and the contrast of k-idol shamans with veteran actors to tackle the supernatural mystery. The resolution and reasoning for the second ghost hurts my brain. It's annoyingly shallow. Bad watch.

Abigail - if you know nothing about this, please don't look for the trailer because of a main spoiler. Just go in blind and you will be rewarded with an entertaining experience. The premise is a group of shady crooks task with kidnapping a 12 years old girl. Babysit her long enough to collect ransom money. Of course there's more to the little girl. Fun and very watchable.
