There are big difference between Hilux Surf a.k.a. 4Runner, a product for Japan only and Hilux pickups....

Hilux Surf model (4th gen) production ended in 2009, after 25/26 years in production.....
Hopefully 5th gen will come in the form like the 5th gen 4runner... Looks like Evo's front grill ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by BeastX: Oct 28 2009, 09:26 PM |

QUOTE(JONSETAn @ Nov 11 2009, 04:25 PM) Yo guys, If it is a 3.2 triton to 2.5 Fortuner/PS, it'll be a down grade...Here is my Triton : » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Will sell it soon and get new SUV (Fortuner of Pajero Sport). No point of keeping "lorry like" car when we never put things on the bucket Super Select gear of Pajero Sport will be nice to play with... but you pay 40 to 50% of the price in taxes when compare to the triton...Worth it? |

QUOTE(JONSETAn @ Nov 13 2009, 09:23 AM) Mine is triton 2.5. I need a fast, comfortable and durable 4x4 and of course that will last for several years as I traveling to project site frequently. Any recommendation guys? Double cab bump like hell on the offroad and often feels like to puke driving with full stomach after lunch. And onroad the triton feel like snail with almost full throttle 3000rpm and speedometer only 110/120/130km/h As mentioned... different tax bracket, were gov. sees it as a competition to Local produced sedan/cars. Double cabs are the only (foreign branded CKD/CBU) private own vehicle with low tax. Actually the market is ripe for a Full-Time 4WD all coil spring double cab, basically Fortuner/Pajero Sport suspension/gears with dual-cab body (shortened flatbed)Wondering how come the pajero sport price is double triton price when they just add minor things and almost identical to triton. |

pajero sport and Triton (without tax) should be almost the same price.... maybe a few K more.
Pajero Sport and Fortuner had to use 2.5L engine because of the lower tax bracket (& not 3.2L and 3.0L respectively). They (Manufacturers) should build a 4x4 "Pick-up" with a full-time 4x4 drive train and not limited to partial 4x4. Honda has a promising one. QUOTE(RAZERGEAR @ Feb 13 2012, 03:29 AM) I'm no sifu on this but if you check your Hilux manual, it says that 4WD should not be used on 'dry hard surfaces' but can be used on 'icy, loose gravels or off-road conditions'. Not advisable... you loose both traction and control with partial 4x4 especially if you're doing turning (at high speed....cutting lanes/emergency...etc), The 4 wheels are rotating at the same speed, while they should be different and 4 tyre keep pulling and tweaking each other (you may stress your hubs too much causing damage). So in real world tar road/wet/semi wet... there's no real world application for 4H (with partial 4x4), unless you're in 100% mud road in pouring rain....You should also know by now that the Hilux is not the most stable truck around (presumably failed the 'elk test') so do take precautions when driving on wet roads whether on 2H or 4H. That being said, I personally DO sometimes drive my Lux on 4H on wet highways, especially during heavy rain when the roads have puddles or rain water running across because it does provide more traction. I'll avoid switching to 4WD if the road is narrow with many sharp turns though. I never go 4L on road, wet or dry alike. And one more thing you might want to take note (I'm not sure if applicable) is that under the section of 'Operations of Instruments and Controls' in the Owner's Manual, there is a paragraph stating: "You should drive in four-wheel drive for at least 16 km (10 miles) each month. This will assure that the front drive components are lubricated". If you don't go off-road often enough, then a wet road is the next best surface to shift to 4WD every now and then i guess. As for Semi Syn, I'm not sure as yet so no comment. This post has been edited by BeastX: Feb 13 2012, 11:30 AM |
