For more info, google "activated carbon"
Wikipedia have an excellent article on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Activated_carbon

Ever heard of using charcoal to reduce malodour?
Try some activated carbon. You'll be surprised by its efficacy.
Now try my special chemically impregnated activated carbon.
According to wiki:
QUOTE
Activated carbon, also called activated charcoal or activated coal, is a form of carbon that has been processed to make it extremely porous and thus to have a very large surface area available for adsorption or chemical reactions. The word activated in the name is sometimes substituted by active. Due to its high degree of microporosity, just one gram of activated carbon has a surface area of approximately 500 m² (or about 2.17 tennis courts), as determined typically by nitrogen gas adsorption. Sufficient activation for useful applications may come solely from the high surface area, though further chemical treatment often enhances the adsorbing properties of the material. Activated carbon is usually derived from charcoal.
The capacity of activated carbon to adsorb molecules from air is by the action of the weak van der Walls force.
However, due to the huge surface area, a small amount of activated carbon can adsorb a large amount of molecules from the air.
However, simple activated carbon is much less efficient in adsorbing certain acidic gases that is the main constituent of malodour.
So, chemical impregnation is used to increase the efficiency of the activated carbon towards certain molecules.
In my case, I opt for a specially formulated impregnation for adsorption of hydrogen sulphide & mercaptan. These acidic gases is released from feces & also durian. Tested efficiency of up to 50% removal of hydrogen sulphide.
Usage suggestion:
- DIY air filter (google on how to do it. Or just put in a net or pantyhose & put at a place with good airflow)
- Additive in pet litter (add a few spoonful into the litter. It is safe for pets. A cat littler manufacturer actually included activated carbon in their product)
- Smelly fridge
- Cupboards, drawers, toilet.
- Cars with bad durian smell
- Durian smell exterminator
- Smoking cigs (Take the paper tube from finished kitchen towel, wrap with pantyhose, fill with carbon, insert straw into the middle of the carbon, blow the smoke into the straw. The smell will be much reduced. I will do an experiment for this soon)
- Marijuana farming
The best thing is it DOES NOT cover the odour with scents but ERADICATE them.
A 100 grams pack should last between 6 month to 1 year.
