Again, nice review, just curious, will there be any significant difference in the SQ if one IEM has the gold-plated 3.5 mini jack while the other has silver in colour(unknown material) coated mini jack?

QUOTE(ClieOS @ Jun 27 2009, 09:51 PM) The other common plating metal is nickel. To answer you question: No, there is no sonic difference b/w gold and nickel plated jack beside feeling good . In fact, gold isn't a very good metal for conducting electricity. We use it cause it has very good resistance to corrosion. I see, thxs bunch, the gold-plated mini jack does indeed make the IEM looks expensive, unfortunately the Sennheiser IE8 is not gold-plated and therefore I come out with this question, it also makes the IE8 looks cheap xD BTW, I thought gold is the best conductor on earth? followed by silver? No?

QUOTE(ClieOS @ Jun 27 2009, 11:34 PM) No, silver is the best, and copper isn't bad either. Gold is n't too bad but not as good as the other two. The problem is of course silver and copper oxidize very easily, so we use gold instead. Nickel is actual much worst than gold in conducting electricity, but for the purpose of plating (which is very very thin layer), the difference is negligible. I realize that when I twisting the 3.5 mini jack on my IE8, it will emit some kind of "noise", those psst psst psst sound, but when I'm twisting the Klipsch and JBL reference one there's no such issue, does this because of the silver coated prob I wonder?
