SpOOkY: Oh yeah! Forgot that. Different combos for different countries.

lj0000: I can assure you that it is hard to create a picture that shows the unevenness of the aperture blades.

HiroBoroi: Nope, the gear stripping happens on the lens. It happens to plasticky lenses which have plastic geartrains - the Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO and Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG non-HSM are particularly prone to gear stripping.

According to International Camera, it also happens on Nikons (not sure if they meant Sigma on F mount, or Nikkors...)

LeoDaVinci: That's exactly it, the picture! That is a stripped gear.

sal16105 plastic also like kitlens ka? is it prone to gear stripping?

Went out for TT with some N user friends... tested out the D90, D300 and D700 (4People, 1Sony)... damn nice weh the D90... since you already have the Tammy 1750  from your D60, why not just upgrade to D90 and keep the 1750?? Somehow was proud of my Sony, coz even tho my buddies were using N, they still said that Sony accessories and lenses are way more cheaper than N or C..  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif Happy Liao... now juz need flash and 16105/1750... tongue.gif
*
glad to hear u said that.. biggrin.gif btw, nikon got more choices of built in motor afs (ssm equivalent) lenses that's cheap.. sony got a really nice powerful and cheap f58 (seriously love the tilting head).. i like the a700 batt grip.. like the d90 batt life.. haha.. in a dilemma right now.. tongue.gif

16105 - longer reach.. better built body
1680CZ - all the wonders of CZ, but lower quality built is it?

and yeah.. first consider d60..then a700/d90.. then A900/D700? hehehe

between 18250 and 16105? which one better overall? or do i have a minolta model kit lens replacement? i donno much about minolta lenses.

AlphaBeta: The SB-900 can, of course, point its flash head at the same position.

However, the built-in white card will not face forward when in portrait orientation! That's what the F58 lets you do.

I use only the built-in white card as a diffuser and that is all you need, really.

Top: F58 using only the built-in bounce card in portrait ceiling bounce mode

user posted image
If you don't use a whaletail/DEMB or its clone you'll end up with something like the picture on the right, in portrait ceiling bounce mode.

alpha_company: If you don't need the range, nothing wrong with the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 - though I do like the 16-105mm's range.

Also note that the A700 has a F2.8 sensor, for higher accuracy and faster focus detection... so yes, you might prefer to put a F2.8 lens on it.

There isn't a Minolta lens that has a good range for APS-C; Minolta only had the 18-70mm, 11-18mm and 18-200mm (all rebadged into Sony.) Unless you count the Minolta 17-35mm F2.8-4 lah.

*
Yeah, you understood my question in the d40 thread exactly. Perfect answer.

The main nagging problem or should i say inconvenience (at least for me la) that I found out while shooting weddings with SB600 flash is that I need to change the placing of the white card when I turn to portrait orientation and then need to change it again when I shoot in landscape mode (can't use the built in white card because of this problem). This in turn makes my work slower. Hmm...

I don't know that there's a whaletail/demb solution but looking at the picture above, even with the demb/whaletail solution I still need to manually change the orientation of the demb thingy if each time I turn to portrait-landscape-portrait right?

Bro albnok What is the downside of 1680CZ? Saw some comments in other forums saying that it has a lower quality build as opposed to 16105. Is it true? This is "Dyxum's comment:
Many lens samples have issues with AF (wide angle) so try before buy or at least good exchange policy is recommended when purchasing. "

check how he positioned his flash head rolleyes.gif

yeah this site.. saw this when i first bought my d60.. i did do a diy somewhat like in the site. i still have that diy card but it seems when i use it in a crowded place, the bounce card is kinda poking in people's faces..hehehe.. sb600 is long enough..not to mention sb900, then add the white card..

QUOTE(albnok @ Jul 6 2009, 03:03 AM)
alpha_company: The idea of the DEMB and whaletail, is:

1) turn head rightwards 90 degrees to point to the right
2) turn head upwards 90 degrees to point to the ceiling
3) install DEMB/whaletail
4) to turn to portrait mode, reverse step 2)

So, you don't need to reorient the DEMB/whaletail. I just find it a big fat and heavy and takes up a load of space when the built-in card (plus slower shutter speed and higher ISO) honestly does the job.

Er, as I said earlier, Cosina redesigned the 16-80mm and came up with the 16-105mm which was less wobbly when zoomed to tele (because it has 2 extension barrels instead of one.)

user posted image
Left: 16-80mm; right: 16-105mm has 2 tubes.

Thanks for the info. I understand what u mean when using the demb/whaletail. There's no need to reorient the diffuser but the diffuser will be sticking out for the world to see...i did use the abetterbouncecard.com but it takes space in a crowded place.

The gary fong jamban & lightsphere is really nice and produces GREAT light diffusing but im not so sure that it's suitable for every situation as it is big and bulky. The lightsphere looks quite okay but the whaletail is just something else. I went to a shop and tried it out, seriously it's big imho. +most people will say "What the heck is that thing sticking out of his flash? looks like a jamban la.." Just an opinion. I like the option of just using the built in white card and shoot away..fast and easy.

Oh I didn't know that 1680 has one barrel and 16105 has two barrels. That's why people say it has lower quality build. So zoom creep is also more prone on the 1680CZ? Or just the same?

I noticed that the 16105 is smaller when it's not zoomed.
