Who says hokkien is low class is probably those KL chinese pig. I think it's Johor ler. There got alot of 'Hokkien banana' - cannot speak Hokkien only mandarin!

QUOTE(xMika @ Jun 26 2009, 06:57 PM) KNNCCB LOL ! I dont think hokkien is low class, but is very useful to tease bananas that dont understand a single shit. Err actually there alot of mandarin educated people who think hokkien is low class while mandarin is superior. I would think alot of english ed just think hokkien as a dialect. Worst, it seems that the Hokkien rejection come from Hokkiens themselves. wah lau way.....

Everytime i talk in Hokkien , they still answer in Mandarin . Then i ask the girl , why dont want to speak Hokkien ? She said Hokkien is Low class , she scared people think them low class . thats why talking in Mandarin . I hear you man. This trend is very hard to reverse.

The solution is actually simply: make hokkien cool using pop culture. And more people will start speaking it. This is how Cantonese survives strong despite the mandarin onslaught.
Most hokkien tv shows and songs sound very 'obiang' and kampung compared to mandain and Cantonese ones. If this can be changed then I believe this low class perception will be eliminated.
