In the early years during the migration of Chinese to other parts of the world, most of the immigrants were from Guandong. Hence, the Chinatowns were mainly Cantonese speaking Chinese. And also the Hongkies added up to the numbers of oversea Chinese before 97, the return of Hong Kong to China.
