Even if Maxis has an upgrade plan, I bet it won't be worth the paper it's printed on. I suggest you try to sell it off privately.

QUOTE(TuX @ Jul 21 2009, 03:14 PM) The only GPS navigation software (that I know of) in the AppStore now for Malaysia is Sygic MobileMaps. You'll need to pay for the app. There won't be any other charges since Sygic doesn't use a data connection and GPS satellites are free to use.If you use IDA, available from Cydia, then you'll have to pay for the app as well as data charges as it downloads maps/routes from Google. However there are ways to preload the maps onto your iPhone. |

The 3GS 32GB Maxis RM2998.80 price is still more expensive than HK or AU which is about RM2900-2950 based on the exchange rate last week.

QUOTE(zc_squash @ Jul 22 2009, 01:34 PM) @tink If you make calls moderately then I think you can go for Value Plus (RM50/mth) + iData1 (RM30/mth for 250mb). iValue package actually isn't that great. There is also Value First (RM30/mth) but I'm not sure whether you can addon iData to this plan.I think I will be keeping my AU iPhone instead of selling it and purchase the Maxis' set. Guess I'll have to live without the local warranty. As far as I know all the i-Whatever plans are exclusive for Maxis iPhone buyers only. Is there any other data plans available for non-iPhone buyers? Or the only option I have is "pay-per-use"? The last time I checked the rate for pay-per-use is quite high. Any suggestion, eh? Many thanks EDIT: Just checked Maxis' site and the the 'jump' from one plan to another is quite huge. RM5, RM8 and then RM99? :S Guess I'll stick to pay-per-use for now. Bunch of thanks! |

QUOTE(zc_squash @ Jul 22 2009, 01:52 PM) Hello Soon Wai! Oops, my bad. Sorry. Yes you're right, you can only go iData if you buy the iPhone from them. Daydreaming today.I don't know I could subscribe to iData plan if I am not Maxis' iPhone customer. That's another reason why I would like let go of my iPhone and get theirs. Regarding data usage, this is my experience. This is on Digi Postpaid.
I subscribed to Digi Data Unlimited at RM33/mth when they had a promo where you get 50% for 3 months. Normal price is RM66/mth. I depended upon the iPhone data usage meter but it may not be accurate so take this with a grain of salt. During these 3 months, I disabled wifi and used my phone as normal. My usage is like this: 1. Check gmail (imap) & mobileme very often. The iPhone is set to check every 15mins. 2. Mobileme push is enabled for everything eg contacts, calendars, mail. 3. Browsing, not so much, maybe 4-8 websites a day. 4. Google maps, at least 2-3 times a day when I'm out of the office. 5. Youtube very rarely. 6. Streaming audio, none at all 7. App store, probably updated 3 apps a month during those 3 months. 8. Updated Cydia stuff once a month 9. Skype, probably made about 6 calls in those 3 months 10. For last 2 weeks or so, I had Push Notification on for Beejive and was chatting quite a bit. 11. I had PDANET installed but did not do any tethering. At the end of the 3 months, my usage meter on the iPhone showed 350mb for the 3 months which equates 117mb/mth. When I ported to Maxis, I had planned to go for iData1 but am now going for iData2. First to get the discount for the 3GS and also to get some extra mb since I'll probably use more data on the faster 3G. Edge is really slow and browsing websites can be quite painful sometimes. OOPS: actually I wanted to post this in the other thread where we're discussing rates/plans. Mod, if you like, you can move it there. So sorry. QUOTE(zc_squash @ Jul 22 2009, 04:25 PM) I guess those three are not an option at all for me! The first two are obviously too little and the third is too expensive (and redundant) for me. The 250mb at RM30 for iData 1 is the sweet spot. But alas, me can't have it Ya lor, sell your phone and get Maxis set lah. |

Best to call Maxis to confirm. I know for Celcom & Digi unlimited broadband plans, you're not charged. Only the speed is throttled down. |

I was just wondering about the Mophie, if you drop the phone when it's attached, do you think there's a higher chance of damage to the dock connector port on the iPhone?

Just spoke to the makcik selling nasi lemak outside my house. She said her teenage daughter got a temp job at Maxis starting next Monday for a week. When I asked doing what, she said it was to "bungkus barang". The daughter went for training today so I'll see if I can bump into her tomorrow.
I wonder if it's to bungkus the Maxis Service Card with the 3GS box. |

QUOTE(acther @ Jul 28 2009, 10:31 PM) today the maxis guy called me. What are you using now? Hotlink? Just wondering what will necessitate a change of SIM cards.asking me which package am i choosing... he say that if i'm choosing the iValue or iData package, i'll need to go over to change my sim package before Friday so that on Friday i will just need to pay and collect my iPhone. They had under estimate on the bookings... thats why now is worried on Friday will be very packed and take long time to do all the transfer / register ... |

At 2:30pm today, I received similar info from Switch Mines. Prebooked 16GB should be arriving this evening (Thurs) and ready for collection tomorrow. 32gb units delayed till next week. My brother booked a 16GB unit here.
I also received a call from Machines Lot 10 with similar info. 16GB limited units tomorrow. 32GB delayed till dunno when. I booked a 32GB unit here. I asked if people who booked at Maxis Centres (not MEP) will be getting their 32GBs? Answer was no, apparently everyone (Maxis Centres, Machines, MEPs) is affected by this. QUOTE(tony9973 @ Jul 30 2009, 02:49 PM) @soonwai That's exactly what I was told also. I forgot to mention about the demo unit. Maybe Switch can have auction for the their 3GS demo unit tonight. LOL.My info is from Switch Mines also. The girl said stock not arrived only the demo set arrived. Any theories on the delay? 1) Customs Clearance? 2) Hijacked Lorry? 3) Worldwide shortage? 4) Maxis Purchasing Dept ordered Palm Pres instead of iPhones? 5) Maxis found slabs of meat or stones instead of iPhones in the boxes? Half expected something like this I guess. This post has been edited by soonwai: Jul 30 2009, 03:05 PM |

QUOTE(raptar_eric @ Jul 30 2009, 03:48 PM) Heard that Maxis Centres will definitely have stock, cause they will get the priority, followed by MEP and only to Machines, etc. Can anyone here who booked 32gb with Maxis Centre call up and ask about tomorrow? Problem is Maxis Centre numbers aren't listed on their website. This post has been edited by soonwai: Jul 30 2009, 03:58 PM |

Maxis KLCC just called up my friend to inform him that he will not be able to get his 3GS tomorrow. They were very apologetic about it. He ordered a 16GB Black the very day online bookings went live and paid the RM200 deposit the next.
Looks like 16GB are also affected by whatever problems Maxis is facing. |

QUOTE(sookk @ Jul 30 2009, 05:04 PM) Rule of thumb: Always order directly from Maxis Center instead of MEP/APR. At least so far, they managed to confirm stock. True, screaming won't help but it's a way of relieving stress if you're disappointed or just plain pissed. To me, I'll just wait until they have stock ... hopefully they don't swallow the deposit and forget about those folks. Not really Machines fault anyway ... no point screaming at the poor manager there since he can't do anything about it as well. I don't think Machines are at fault. Maxis is screwing this up with poor planning. Until they lay the blame on Apple or someone else, Maxis is it. I'd rather wait for a few days/weeks and give my business to Machines than Maxis. All this pre-booking business is pointless now. It builds up hype and anticipation for the DAY. At the last moment, you're disappointed and in the dark on whether and when you'll be able to get your 3GS. I know it's just a phone but I've been counting down the 2 weeks in anticipation of my new toy this Friday. Much in the same way that my daughter is counting down the days till Saturday when we will visit a friend with a new Golden Retriever. I'm as excited about the 3GS as she is about the dog. At least she won't be disappointed. |
