I gotta learn how to do that too. Newbies these days needs hand-holding to explain the simplest thing.

Not that implying anyone in here as that. Just that if you do ask simple questions that are common knowledge or easily researched in here, then you probably need hand-holding like how Nokia2003 just shown.

to be honest, i have known that trick for quite some time already. just that i keep forgetting to apply it on hands.

so next time, to handle the newbies/spoon feeding lovers, we will opt for the nokia2003's "method"! blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif

Office connection? 3G?

Fair enough. But tell me this. If hypothetically, the features on the iPhone catches up on the Garmin, would you be inclined to consider the iPhone a suitable GPS Nav candidtate?

People, I finally pushed the button (well touch literally) and purchase IM+ 3.0. 3.1 is still on app review and should be around the corner. Will provide a review in a couple of days and hopefully 3.1 will be out.

So far I only notice one thing and that is on WIFI whenever you put the phone to sleep, WIFI will turn off. So you won't be connected and the next time you wake the phone up it will have to reconnect. However, on cellular data connection its fine. I guess thats acceptable to me since WIFI sucks a lot of battery and I don't expect to put the phone into sleep when I'm using WIFI either. Not sure if Beejive behave similarly though.

The rest just works and no problem. I'm not a heavy user on IM actually but I bought the app anyway solely because I can get connected anywhere I wanted to. Granted that the lite version serves me well but I can't stand the advertisement bar which takes away useful space.

Hi,

Just wondering which messaging app is preferable after the 3.0 update? IM or Beejive? Beejive is selling USD9.99 whereas IM is selling only  UD5.99? Which is one is problem free and stable? Thanks

Yes, thats what I noticed too. Apparently when you're downloading something, WIFI doesn't disconnect when the phone goes to sleep. It'll continue to be connected until it has downloaded and installed everything. But it doesn't behave this way when you're on IM or surfing a website. It'll disconnect. Also the IM+ 3.0's setting for vibration doesn't stick. It'll always turn on the next time you use it.

Yes, I've set it to be connected for 30 minutes. But 5 minutes after I put the phone to sleep, it'll disconnect. I realize it when turn on the phone and the chat I was in has gone. Had to wait for it to reconnect.

I read through IM+ 3.0's support pages and some forums. Got some answers. This is how IM+ handles the so called background services.

- Non-native applications are impossible to go into background when the phone sleeps or screen turned off.
- Their workaround is to store their current state and shut down. When you call out the program again, it will restore its previous state.
- As such connection is lost when shut down and connection is re-established the next time you call out the program.
- During these times, IM+ will keep all the IM service accounts active by keeping them alive on the respective IM servers.
- Any messages during these times will be intercepted by IM+ and then forwarded to your email ala push.

These workarounds give you the impression that things are still running behind the scene even after you have turned off the screen or put the phone into sleep mode. But actually you're unable to receive any IM messages in real time. The phone won't buzz and you can't reply straight without it reconnecting to the IM servers.

Next I will try if it behaves similarly with Palringo when you leave the app and return to homescreen without going into sleep mode or screen turned off. I think it should receive messages real time too.

@davidmak,
Apparently U can reply to messages received that's being pushed through to your email via your email. I haven't been successful in doing it but I tested it with a friend and he successfully replied my IM message through his email box.

hMm.. now it makes sense why everytime I go back into IM+ it shows me "Reconnecting" and when I go back to BeeJiveIM it wouldn't allow me to send message cause it tells me it's connecting. So I guess both the IM apps workaround it in the same manner.

Yes, I have tested the email function and it is working excellently. My recipient can't tell that I am actually replying via email. However, I have to keep my email refreshed to see any new messages. Hotmail doesn't support push. Only Yahoo does but it doesn't seem to push anything yet. Still testing.

I guess these aren't really background apps. I wonder if developers can 'sign' these applications as native and allow it to reside in memory. That'll be cool. So for now, remember to set the 'keep services alive' longer. Otherwise it will shut down sooner or later. All this while, I had the impression that the 'keep services alive' meant keeping the app in background. Apparently it isn't. Now I doubt that the app still keep alive if we momentarily goes into homescreen. Guess thats the reason why they included a browser in the app itself.

With so little remaining free RAM, multitasking is gonna be difficult.
