Greetings. I would need some help here regarding my persian kitten with me for these few days.

1. He used to drink on a water bowl but I would like him to use the water bottle. He already know the bottle does contained water but seems like his tongue won't have enough force to move the metal ball causing him to use his cheek or head to move the ball. Which mostly make his face wet haha.

2. Do I need to let him to cope with my time? I'm always got awake by him during early mornings like 4-7am asking for attention or help. Kinda tiring indeed but he's only with me for 3 days so I'm figuring a way now.

3. He 's shy and really not into the toys i bought especially the scratch board. Is it better if I get a post??

Thank you for reading and hope you guys can help me a bit here @@.

sound like he is born by drinking via the bowl right... i understand your problem, many persian owner prefer their persian to drink via the water bottle like hamster.. most of them teach since kitten.

you can still teach but remember, persian is very fussy eheheh... takes time.... water is very important, so don't leave your persian 24 hours with the bottle if he dont know how to use it. else he will be dehydrated... maybe u can teach using it 1/2 day. and monitor the water inside the bottle. if it is decrease, meaning he is drinking it.

4-7am is a active time for cats.. my cats get very active after 1am till 7am smile.gif.. then they will be quiet sleeping... early morning is a hunting time for them. if they don't have friends, they will hunt you LOL tongue.gif maybe another cat will do the trick smile.gif

persian is also a shy cat.. and tame... when they grew up older, they prefer to be alone... kittens will be active. but if he is born and grew up alone 24/7 he will prefer to be alone. he will play the toys and scratch board later own... u only have him for 3 days right.. takes time smile.gif try cat nips toys too smile.gif maybe he will enjoy catnip toys smile.gif

Good Luck!

Thanks elf. Being reading your infos since ver.4 so still a learning process for me. My Felix is 3 months + as described. Went to get kitten food just now at petsmore @ Queen's park and somehow the water bottle incident was discussed with one of the sales girl and she said cats are preferred to drink using bowl rather than bottle as their tongue is sensitive and might hurt in the future. And there I've changed my mind to use bowl. A huge difference when he drinks on bottle and on bowl. really scare if he doesn't drink enough water you see cry.gif .

About the catnip toys, I do use the catnip sprays on his toys and only one of the toys caught his eyes, others remain the same. The sale girl give me the reason is that catnip only attracts kitten from age 6 months + onwards, after they get used to it, they'll eventually loose the 'magic' too for a while. Now i got a cheap toy for him, straws, it really attracts him haha.

Not say promoting this store but bcoz of the confidence i got from this sale girl, at least i can get a 2nd opinion when i shop here so i won't get confused of what i need for my kitten. Will visit the vet you recommended on these few days to check up. starting to grow on him as he really likes me too wub.gif

Hello again,

I've gone to see the vet and he told me Felix got diarrhea. So I was instructed to give him medicine and monitor his poo until my next visit. But how do I know if my Felix is having healthy poo?? hmm.gif

I didn't realize he's having diarrhea too until I visit the vet. So I know if the poo is soft but what if the poo is hard but my Felix's paw got some of the poo too?? rclxub.gif

Anyhow, Felix is being active and naughty these days smile.gif Just now he's running in my room and some how while he's trying to escape from me, he got hit by my leg. He suddenly stunned/scared/on defense and afraid of me. I can see it from his ears when he did that. Then I just slowly brushed him a few and while I picked him up, I slapped a little hard on his back as a warning and put him back into cage.

Oh yea, here's my Felix smile.gif

Hello..

Actually it is easy to know if your cat has diarrhea or not. check the litter box. when you scoop out the poops u can easily see hard poo, semi soft poo, and watery poo. hard poo wont break into peace like semi soft poo. while soft poop its look like flat jelly and doesn't look like poop.

another way to check your felix butt ehehe... if he is long hair, normally soft poo/water poo will end up attach to the long fur at the back side.

Just to share some info with you, i think your felix is not persian breed. he has that semi long nose in the picture. while persian should have very flat nose. A pure breed persian and other type must have pedigree certificate to confirm they are pedigree. if a cat do not have any pedigree certificate, they will automatically turn into Domestic Long Hair (DLH) and Domestic Short Hair (DSH).
*
He's a mix breed w/o cert so it's consider DLH. nod.gif but I do like his appearance at 1st sight.
Oh, about the poo sticking on his back side, the vet already cut the fur around his back but I've only see he got little poo got on his back paws so couldn't decide it's healthy or not rclxub.gif

Anyway, thanks for reply rclxms.gif

Hello guys smile.gif

I've just visited the vet few days ago to follow up my Felix's diarrhea condition. This time I was attended by another vet since Dr. S was on another branch. After follow up the checking, the vet told me my Felix was fine, just need to eat his medicine for another week then it'll recover. Then the vet did ask me to vaccinate my Felix and I fully agreed. While examining him after the shot, he found out Felix got flea eggs on his fur and I did notice too before. So I was asked to use Frontline and I did later that night. It's seems fine as he's active & naughty like usual on his 2nd day of shot(recover fast indeed biggrin.gif ), but as I woke up by him this morning and while I raise him, I saw watery poo stuck on his rear fur. This is the 1st time I see poo like this hmm.gif

1. The dosage of medicine is reduce, will that be the culprit?
2. He's not stress or having fever since he's active and eat well on 2nd day, or still is the vaccine's influence??
3. I put on Frontline and the eggs still stick on his fur. Does it take time to see the results?
4. If this continue for 3 days, will I need to take him to the vet straight away or keep monitor his condition?

I really appreciate your guys help notworthy.gif

He is still on medicine right? if yes, wait till you finish all the tablets. and see if anything improve.

yes vaccine normally took 2-3 days to end. so during this days you will see him tired and moody. some sort like vaccine taking action.

what type of frontlike u r using? spray or spot on? u need to comb your cat with fleas comb.. google image on how this comb look like. when u comb, the eggs will drop, if u give frontline doing all the job by itself, it will be alil bit slow to recover. eggs will hatch soon.. so comb it.

what you can do is call the vet after 4th day. and ask why your handsome felix still ... tell the vet what u see, such as continous diarrhea, etc.

make sure your cat drink enough water ok smile.gif monitor the water intake, let say 1 glass in a bowl, see how much it decrease.
*
He actually got pee more than poo haha so it's fine smile.gif, and I make sure to change his water every time I go to and come back from work. I'm using the Frontline spray as the vet gave me. I use normal comb which is for his daily use, never knew there's a flea comb blink.gif Don't know if he's moody but he likes to bite or scratch my finger when i wanna brush him these days sweat.gif . Thanks again for advice, will keep on monitor his condition. smile.gif

Hello again! smile.gif

After I've visited the vet since last week, Felix has been fine on his daily poo now, although he did caught some on his butt once a while haha. He's as energetic as usual but these few days while I was playing with him, he does like to bite me, as if a way to play so I'm fine with it. Then I don't know whether he's really into these or what so even now while I wanna groom or just cuddle him a bit, he'll do the biting too. Is it ok if I let him be, or is there other way to treat this kind of behavior like toys or I do have to stop this?? Thanks for help happy.gif

Dear forumers,

I really wish you guys could help me with this as Felix is really into biting which is hard to interact between us. I'm doing the scruffing technique atm but he'll bite or scratch me back after I release my hand. sad.gif Last time he likes when I cuddle or groom him but now he's somewhat offensive against me. Please help as I'm still learning to love my Felix and thanks for reading.

jotaro, you mean when you pet him then he try to scratch you?
*
Mostly it happens when I take him out of cage and pet/groom him. At 1st he'll purr like usual, but later a while he'll start to scratch or bite my hand like I'm playing with him. When I'm doing the scruffing, he seems unhappy and the process will continue until I put him back to cage. sad.gif

I see. Will take note on you guys' experience smile.gif. Actually there's one thing happen today while I'm working. As I'm eating my lunch, both of my hands started to get really itchy till I need to scratch hard. I went to put on the Dettol cream later as my hands got those itchy spots appeared. I'm not sure if I was allergic to the food I ate or was the bites that cause it. I think I need to be cautious next time when I play with Felix. ohmy.gif

Oh yea, here are some Felix's latest pics, he got a a new hair cut on his last vet visit. He gain some weight too smile.gif

I see. He really think your hand is the toy! You cage him always?
*
Felix is a mix Persian or DLH. His fur was not equally long that's why I decided to make it look nice. smile.gif
You can check on his last pic on post 174. At 1st I also thought he wanted to play with me, but now he just bite me when he got a chance rclxub.gif I'll try to be careful these days. Hope it's his "gigi gatal" symptom only.

I do cage him since day 1 as don't want to have any unforeseen accident happen while I'm not at home. I let him out and roam a while when I'm at home to let him get to know my stuff slowly without destroying it sweat.gif Will consider to let him stay without cage when he's old or mature enough.

I'm planning to change Felix's diet after he finishes his 5kg bag of Iams so now I'm scouting a few brands like RC, orijen, backwood etc. AFAIK there's only RC selling small 400g packet, others would be 1kg++. Would it be ok if I mix my Iams-75%, RC-25% to see how the progress? I just want to know if Felix is comfortable with RC. smile.gif

It is not advisable to mix food.beside that, how would u know which one is good if you mixing 2 or more kind of food?

Like you eat curry ayam, curry daging, curry ikan in 1 meal, then you got stomach ache, u end up blaming all 3 dishes right eheheh

so that's the point.

you can only mix 2 different brand when changing food. old food vs new food.. slowly decrease the old on, and increase the amount of new food until 100% new food. this is to avoid diarrhea or stomach shock.

if you only have 1 cat, i advise to go for super premium food such as orijen. buy the big pack of 7kg. it may looks expensive, but it last longer because only 1 cat eating. u maybe no need to buy cat food for the next 2-3 months.
*
Understood smile.gif. But where do I get the 7kg pack Orijen? Petsmore only carries 1.8kg and I don't have my own transport so KL and Cheras would be my only area to get pet supplies.

Sorry bro, but I do appreciate your offer. I did some research these few days and found out my own solution to get the Orijen 7.5kg - Petknode. Not saying very affordable price but for me is acceptable + free delivery to door step if purchase 90+.

As a side note, Felix got his 2nd vaccine shot few days ago and since then his appetite drops. I know he might be having fever this time, so I wanna be a bit specific on his situation. He still plays but not as active, water intake is still ok, less eating and soft poo. do all these symptoms related to fever that he's experiencing?? Thanks smile.gif

sad.gif Felix has been admitted as vet requested to give him the best cure. He vomit while he's on queue but his temperature is normal when examined so Dr. S suggested to admit Felix under care. Hope he'll get well soon!

Hello el,

After I took Felix back from the vet, he's kinda stressed out and shed a lot of fur, very skinny even only 3 days. Vet said he's still having diarrhea so meds are needed. The weird thing is the vet can't find anything in his poo. The good thing is he starts eating again. I discovered he didn't poo for a whole day since I picked him up yesterday, is that a bad sign? Do I need to get a 2nd opinion as I'm not sure the vet gave the correct diagnosis sad.gif

hold on there.. see if your cat is eating and drinking or not. the most important one is drink, so that he avoid the dehydrated mode which is quite dangerous.

depends on what kind of food you feeding, if at the moment u r feeding wet food, he will poo very less, since wet food is more towards water.
*
Felix was drinking normally till today and pee like usual. I feed him 100 plus w/o gas as vet told me it's good for boosting back his energy. For the poo thing, I finally noticed his poo today, not watery poo too which is a good thing. I'm feeding him the usual Iams kitten which he loves it and he ate quite a lot on the day I took him back. smile.gif Do I need to give him less than his usual meal portion for a while or keep the same?? Thanks for help el notworthy.gif

Hello guys, just wanna ask if you have an air purifier for your kitty?? I've been thinking about it ever since I browse through a TW cat forum where they mostly have it to purify the air which might contains some cat gems and filter your kitty's hair too. Some more poo poo smell will go away fast haha. Saw some of their recommendation on which model and the price difference is huge as like selling RM800 in TW while M'sia dealers selling RM1400 for the same model. Thinking to get one as my room become easy to get dust lately. Do share if you have any comments, thanks smile.gif
