Buy? You lost your security token?

Last time I remembered that it's FOC. That device is still with me even though I have cancelled my HSBC conventional CC.

Actually it will be given to you free of charge. But if you accidentally break it, then they will charge you RM50 for replacement. If you request for a security device replacement due to low battery, then they won't charge you a cent.

Even though HSBC Amanah is the wholly-owned subsidiary of HSBC, they are actually separate entities. You can still apply for a conventional credit card from HSBC.

By the way, i applied for two HSBC credit cards last week. This time i'm no longer a supplementary cardholder brows.gif Received a call from HSBC yesterday and was told that my HSBC credit cards been approved. Should receive the cards next week. Now that is fast rclxms.gif

Regarding the HSBC security device..
I used to help my dad with his online banking, and at the same time I used his account to pay my bills.

Since it was a hassle to ask him for the device every time, I copied a few of the numbers generated by the device. Every single time any of the number works without having to generate a new one. No idea about now though...

You need to apply for Internet banking facility in order to get the security device. It's requirement for HSBC Internet banking.

Tried. At first i clicked the security device 4 times to get 4 different sets of number and then wrote each down. After that i tried to use the "fourth number" at first but failed. I tried again once, this time with the "second number" instead. Again failed. Since i already failed twice, i did not dare to try it for the third time as i afraid they might temporary disable my online account. So during the third attempt, i login like usual. Enter my username, then my password and lastly, i click the security device to get a number and enter it. Successfully login this time.

So the conclusion is that, you cannot use numbers that were used before. You also cannot generate several numbers through the security device, write them down and use it later/next time because their system do not accept it. I do not know how the hell HSBC make it but i'm impressed !!!! rclxms.gif

True. There will be some forms you need to sign. Unlike most banks, where you can simply apply for online banking through ATM machine. This is impossible with HSBC. Should you wish to use HSBC internet banking, you must apply for it at one of their branch.

The HSBC security device number is probably generated via some unique ID associated with the device together with the current time. Or something.

That security device thing is the most unfriendly thing I ever used. It worked well at first but after a few times, not sure why it will run out of sequence which require a call to the CS to clear it. After a few times, same problem again. I very much prefer the other alternative which is widely used nowadays which is the TAC.

One major flaw about sending PAC/TAC to your mobile phone is that the system can be easily hacked. For example, once some @#$% stole your login id and password, they will need a PAC/TAC whenever they want to transfer the money out. And every time they managed to hack into the system and divert the sms from the bank containing the PAC/TAC number sad.gif

So far Maybank and CIMB online banking are the two most vulnerable and prone to being hacked. Never heard anything about HSBC so far "touch wood" laugh.gif

This never happens to me. And hopefully it will stay this way sweat.gif

I think AMEX consider me as high risk user because my application for gold card has been turned down I guess. No replies after 2 months. On the other hand, gonna get another card from SCB. Not sure what card though. One thing is that, its good to get a lot of cards nowadays to get different rebates offered by them. I always tend to use Alliance and Citibank Shell because of their good rebate rate especially Alliance. The bad thing is that they had a limit.
