RM12,000 including penalty fees etc.
The card has been terminated and I'm turning it in to a personal loan as you said, but then I'm required to write a proposal letter. Minimum payment is already difficult for me. I think base on my commitment and such, probably I only have RM500 extra to pay out the debt each month.

What's AKPK? Is it better to find them rather than turning it to a personal loan? Which is better? Can explain more? Thanks.
Yes you are right. Minimum payment do no good, only increase more debts and as when you use more, it goes into a big amount. I've asked them to reduce the interest rate and they also suggest me to turn it into a personal loan or something like that. If not mistaken they are called debt consolidation loan?

I won't borrow from Ah Long la. But I have some friends are ah long lar. Maybe they can give me 0% interest loan. LOL.

I think PL is an option for you. You must immediately adjust your lifestyle and cut whatever unnecessary spending. Remember, buying car is not an investment. You may consider to sell your existing car and do not own a car for the next 6 months, or buy a cheaper and low maintenance car instead. As such, the amount saved from the car loan installment can be used to pay part of your debt.

In addition, you may discuss the topic in another thread - Personal Financial Management, and you'll get lots of idea there. Good luck!

No bank can give you a free lunch. There will be upfront interest or handling fee for the so called 0% installment plan.

My mom actually have this card but she never used it. When she tried to cancel the card about a month ago someone from AmBank called her and ask her not to cancel it since it is free for life. No minimum swipe required.
*
It seems your mum is a fanatic cc collector ya…just kidding. biggrin.gif

Anyway, there are not many people interested in this cc as the benefit provided is not great.

want to ask if i wan to cut off my citibank cc card.. what should i do?
can i cancel it after 1 year?
*
Just cancel whatever cards you seldom/don't really use. My friend experienced a nightmare after a house break-in. He lost 2 CCs he seldom used, and discovered that the thief had swiped his CCs for a spending spree totalling 20k++. Although he was not liable to pay the loss, he still had to get a police report and personally go to the respective banks to show the proof.

QUOTE(tabs @ Sep 11 2009, 01:00 AM)
haha.. without free gift doesn't matter as long the agent is fast and responsible then ok de la.. actually finding some agent can help me register the citibank card and make it fast.. moreover waived the annual fees.. that all.. hehe
*
Most CCs nowadays automatically grant waiver for 1st year AF.

Wow serious? Wonder if it's just a coincidence, or they really do block of places. I mean, they like, identify such places, black list it and block it off in their system? Must be pretty tedious for them to come up with such a list (talking bout the bank).
*
I am a bit surprised too. Ever since the system is so advanced and could detect non-halal entertainment outlets? Perhaps the cardholders could try dining at high-end restaurants and hotels, and order wine or liquor. Do let us know the outcome. smile.gif

Actually it is quite simple. The banks had it for quite a while already - these banks are allocated a certain merchant ID code/class thus it is easily detectable by the terminal open they swipe the card. This system was already in place when AMBB introduced their Islamic cc several years back.
*
Has anyone used this card to wine and dine in hotel? Even if one doesn't dine in restaurant in the hotel, but he/she orders non-halal drink to be sent to his/her room and charges the bill to the room, can the total hotel room bill be settled by using this card during check out? If the card is so strict to non-halal items only, then it can't be used in most of the hotels. Even 5-star hotels in Middle East also serve non-halal food and drink. But I don't think the card is so "intelligent" in detecting this, especially purchases in overseas.

In 2 weeks time when I get my statements for Alliance Visa Plat, MBB Petronas Gold  and Direct Access Visa Infinite (where I should get 1& rebate for overseas transactions) I will post my transactions in US last month for comparison.
*
I look forward to your update. Alliance should be the winner again. If you can post the rates charged by Amex vs others, it would be helpful.

btw, want to ask, if im using OCBC CC spend in the SG, will the exchange rate is lower compared to other bank?
*
Although OCBC is a Singaporean bank, it doesn't mean that you will get a lower conversion rate when you use the cc in Singapore, as your OCBC cc is issued in Malaysia. The admin fee on currency conversion will also apply.

That is funny....I called Alliance a few weeks ago and they told me they do not add the 1% charge.

Added on September 14, 2009, 10:47 am

Bank Negara record for 4-Sep was 3.5305. So your 3.529 was even cheaper. Truly excellent.

Bank Negara for 7-Sep was 3.5175. So your 3.513. Again, truly excellent.

While these rates are mere indicative, it is certainly food for thought and may be one reason why I might want to avoid AMEX.

BTW, your citibank is VISA?

If your OCBC is also VISA, then it should be the same. The conversions are done by VISA or MC, NOT the bank itself.
*
If you read vin_ann's post carefully, the excharge rate shown in Citi cc was actually 3.59 vs the actual forex rate of around 3.52. Therefore, the rate was in fact higher as the admin fee has been taken into account. smile.gif

Not all the banks are same I think. I only spent once before in China. When I received the bill, it was in fact cheaper than buying with cash due to more favorable exchange rate. That time I was using Southern Bank mastercard.
*
smile.gif Southern Bank! Was your transaction done ages ago? biggrin.gif DA has long been under CIMB.

Following the inclusion of 1% admin fee on all overseas transactions, CIMB’s conversion rate has never been attractive since April 09.

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Sep 14 2009, 07:07 PM)
Yesterday at about midnight called MBB Petronas CS, not to happy with their 24 hours service. Previously I posted quite happy with MBB Petronas Platinum CS Tol Free service but yesterday kind of pissed me off.

I have both MBB Petronas Gold and Platinum - yes both also active cards, yet to cancel the gold card until I settle this month statement.

MBB Petronas Gold CS - put on hold for quite long and it is not TOL Free so got pissed off and called MBB Petronas Platinum TOL Free CS line but nobody picked up the damn phone!
*
That’s in fact the most annoying thing! It would ruin your mood and sometimes give you a “heart attack”. I had experienced enough with DA a few years back. Recently Alliance also gave me a little bit of problems, but what to do...I need their cash rebates.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Sep 14 2009, 10:00 PM)
Winner has done a comparison about the credit card admin fee several times. I wondered anyone has tried out HSBC Premier Mastercard ? Since HSBC Premier promise its customers preferential exchange rate and such. Maybe the admin fee and exchange rate is lower if you swipe it overseas compared to their HSBC Amanah issued VISA and conventional credit cards ?
*
After all, HSBC Premier MC is still an MC. The conversion is done by MC. I guess the only thing that can be adjusted by HSBC is the admin fee, i.e. imposing a smaller percentage of admin fee compared to other HSBC cards.

Damn it Citibank! I just received my e-statement and discovered that Citi didn't give me 2x reward points for overseas transactions. I queried the CS but was informed that Citi Plat cc has stopped giving 2x points for overseas retail purchases since last month. I don't find a reason to keep this card now. No cash rebates and additional points. It is actually a lifestyle card (discount for F&B) for me only. CUT IT! tongue.gif

Actually, I should use SCB VI when travelling abroad as it gives 5x choice points! biggrin.gif

CIMB Bank is giving 2x bonus points for each RM1 charged to their World Mastercard overseas. As for their VISA Infinite, it will give you 1% cash back.

Standard Chartered has the least competitive exchange rate + admin fee though. But since your company is paying for it i guess it is alright then  biggrin.gif
*
I don't wanna get so many cards, unless the "direct" benefits are fantastic, such as those given by SCB Just1, Alliance and Amex Gold cc.

That's true. If it is not for company purposes, I won't use SCB cc in overseas as I was shocked with the rates they charged me. Talking about the conversion fee, SCB replied me briefly in writing that the currency conversion was done by MC and they only charged 1% admin fee. But SCB refused to show me the breakdown of conversion and admin charge. However, I am totally clueless why their rate was >2% higher than Alliance's rate.

QUOTE(santaclaus @ Sep 15 2009, 07:02 PM)
my scb justone rebate omost finish ... now scratching my head dunno wanna apply which card ... like the amex gold cc but damn sales din submit for me  vmad.gif

left with hsbc amanah ( onli 0.5% rebate ) & citi plat ( nothing special , damn )
*
After hitting the max rebate for Just1, currently I concentrate using Alliance Younique MC (max rebate RM68.25/month for RM5k purchase + 1x point for local and overseas transactions), Alliance Plat Visa (max rebate RM68.75/month for RM5k purchase + 1x point for local and 2x points for overseas transactions), and Amex Gold cc for local telco, petrol and grocery transactions. I am gonna terminate my Citi Plat soon. nod.gif

Do you keep track of how much rebate you received manually?  Becos I can't find any info in the statements and online banking.

You need to do it manually.
