Hi to all LCD Monitor freaks of LYN.

I am currently on the hunt for LCD monitors as i feel that the 15.4" on my Asus F5SL is just too small for me when it comes to movies, and wanting to have an office and web browser together side by side.

Thus, i've been doing alot of reading regarding LCDs to juggle between price, specs and the practicality of each specs, such as 250, 300, 350 or 400 cd/m2 brightness (too bright aint good rite?); DCRs (it seems that they hardly make that great difference, 20k:1 and 50k:1?); BLBs. Which monitor gives the least BLB problem? (Of course, the LED backlitted models wont have this problem)

Currently i've been setting my eyes on the Asus VH242H, Acer P244W and the Dell G2410 (with LED backlighting giving DCR of 1,000,000:1). From my recent surveys from LYP and DMPJ, respectively i was able to get bargains of RM710, RM785 respectively and RM899 from Dell Online as it was not to be found in stores.

Among these 3 models for the 24" range which 1 would be the best choice? In terms of color, the Dell surely topples the Asus and Acer but does the extra money justify its performance in terms of vividness and accuracy of color? Reviews for the G2410 is pretty good though. Also, although all uses TN panels, which company manufactures/uses the best panel among these 3?

I used to set my eye on the AOC Angelo (2494SW) and the Samsung 2494HS, but the Angelo lack the DVI input and the Samsung 2494HS unfortunately did not impress me as compared to others. The color produced by the Samsung 24 incher was rather dull and image ghosting is pretty obvious for a conventional 5ms monitor. While Viewsonic's VX2433wm seem like a good buy; great price, 2ms resp time, matte finish (comfortable for the eye), i am just not too sure in its quality; so how well does Viewsonic monitor fare as compared to the others mentioned in my commentary?

I've also been keeping an eye on the 23" section as the cheaper alternative and perhaps for practicality as it'll save me around RM100-200 for a 0.6" difference.

The models are the Acer's H233H, Samsung 2333SW+, 2343, P2370/2350, as well as the Dell S2309w. Which of these choices would deem best value for money. I'm guessing that the Samsung's P series are hot for its aesthetical new design featuring the ToC (like the older T series). The Acer H233H has HDMI support over the X233H, along with some cosmetic difference, is that all? The Samsung 33 and 43 series monitors only sport difference in its control panels, i think and the Dell simply produce nicely designed monitors (exceptions to the G series with LED backlight) and great after sales support.

So as you can see here, i am actually eyeing on Full HD monitors but i would like to ask whether or not if my Asus lappie running on a Mobility Radeon HD 3470 be able to make full use of these monitors in terms of resolution. I am not an avid gamer and i only play simple games like Dota.

I'm having a hard time narrowing down my options and i came here as a last resort, listing down all the models which has been bugging me the last 2 weeks. Other models not listed here are probably obsolete or way over my budget. But are there other models within RM800 that you (kind souls who has spent the last 4minutes of your precious time) could recommend me?

I'd be really thankful to hear opinions and feedbacks from LYNers to help me decide on my purchase. I dont trust the opinions of salesmen, they tell you the obvious and whichever would push their commission higher. Thanks in advance for reading and your commentaries/opinions. =)

Previously using Viewsonic VX922 19". The picture are significantly sharper than my DELL S2409W. If it wasn't because i needed higher contrast, i wouldn't have change it. U won't go wrong with Viewsonic's VX series. Viewsonic is a US company that focuses on display solutions. I would recommend u VX2433WM over the rests.

Yup, 1360x768 instead of 1920x1080. But that not recommended, the best is max resolution.
If I'm not mistaken, this monitor you need to select input during each time monitor switched on. 2433 user please confirm this !  rclxms.gif

Thank you, thank you!!!... So many recommendations for the Viewsonic 24" display; and thank you all so much for ur time reading my loooooong winded commentary on the choices of the 24inch babies.

Yes, at RM680 for the excellent and highly rated Viewsonic's VX2433, it is definitely a bang for the buck! However, as i was strolling thru lowyat on monday, today and last sunday, i was again, taken over by the beauty of the Acer's P244w's sleekness, design and finishing. Eventhough both these monitors has exact similar features; 20k:1, TN, 2ms RT, etc, somehow i just couldnt take my eyes of the P244w. It was likely that i thought that the VX2433 was very simply designed, not much ergonomics nor sleekness. It's pretty plain i would say, but nevertheless, it is still, a very good monitor for its price, even better than the Samsung 2494HS or the Asus VH242H.

So, at RM100 extra, i get 2 HDMI slots, an analog, a HDMI-HDMI, VGA-VGA and HDMI-DVI-D cable each. It also comes with an additional Dolby Virtual Speaker, tiny speakers but good extras. I wont say that it sounded better than my current Creative 2.1 with on board RealTek soundchip, but it's again, jus another extra feature. The front panel is very easy to use and it runs on my laptop's graphics card without any problems at 1920*1080 @ 50Hz; at 60Hz it has some blackbars by the sides.

It's stand is absolutely stable and the monitor sports a futuristic design. I would've gone for the Viewsonic if i was on a tight budget, but purchasing this baby at RM780 from a dealer in Imbi plaza was totally a bang for the buck with every other dealer retailing it at RM890 onwards. However, if i were to go for a second display, the Viewsonic is on the top list, as i already have this one.

Thanks again peeps for commenting on my post, really appreciate it!

I am yet to test it with fast paced games

Just got an AOC 24 inch today for MSN n widgets usage. It's so blardy bright on default settings! AOC trying to blind us all, I think.  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

I think pure 24" would mean 16:10 configuration and not full HD.

The AOC however is a brilliantly designed monitor but i've not noticed it's excessive brightness though. But i think that kinda brightness provides more flexibility, especially users with cataracts. Ha ha.

Oh! My bad >"<
Full 24s are always better for those who nids that extra space... Better still, 26" Viewsonic, i saw it retailing in AllIT Low Yat too, going for 1xxx, and the Asus 13xx before nego.

Btw yuktsi, the Dell S2409w i saw doesnt really have that sharp image as compared to the Viewsonic. But the G2210 is bedazzling, the G2410 is the 24" brother of Dell's new-in-line LED backlit LCD monitors. Roxors...

S2409W is not comparable to VX2433 becuz they are of different league. VX series are the high end display from Viewsonic. Furthermore the price difference since it's launch is pretty much far apart.

When i bought my S2409, i was also eyeing on vx2433. but @ RM640 for 24" Full HD at that time is a damn good buy. every1 was ordering it like mad. at that time vx2433 was selling at RM780-800. So yea, budget kept me back. sad.gif Anyway, the S2409 is doing its job quite well. My next buy will definitely be Viewsonic or DELL Ultrasharp. The ultrasharp is really sharp.

OH! Ic ic... Dam... I didnt know that >"<

The P244w as im using now is totally a great monitor, movies superb, games superb even at high res, couldnt go higher as im using laptop class GPU only.
Viewsonic's performance for around RM100 cheaper (i bought this monitor at RM780) is actually on par with this originally price at RM1199 monitor!
My nxt buy would surely be the Viewsonic... Simplicity that comes with good quality.

Hey guys, just want to know what are among the good monitors in the 23-24" size range which has HDMI+DVI input or dual DVI inputs?

As far as I know, the Samsung T240 has HDMI input but its kinda pricey. Not sure whether its worth the money unless the IQ is really good.

QUOTE(raptor_cZn @ Aug 18 2009, 09:13 PM)
Hmmm what about the 2494HS then? Anybody using it here?

The Acer P244w has double HDMI ports, of which a DVI to HDMI cable is also included, along with a HDMI-HDMI cable. If u cannot find an extra DVI-HDMI cable on sales or its expensive, u can always go for a HDMI-DVI converter for around RM10, most shops have it as they shud be no cost items upon bulks of HDMI ready GCs. (do mind the cable-converter type though, male/female)

The Samsung 2494HS for Malaysian market at the moment is really lousy. Yes i describe it as lousy. The image quality is substandard to its rival 24" in its class, more over it's a 23.6 incher. The Samsung T series is hard to find nowadays, i think even if u can, they are old/left over stocks. Btw HDMI and DVI uses same signal, correct me if i am wrong. smile.gif
