Just got the White E-P1. Got both lenses and OVF. Currently charging it now, and taking it later to Paris for photoshoot in Disneyland Paris. Newbie here so my pics may be not good. This is my first "better than PnS" camera I have since my crappy Cybershot, so I cant wait to see the image quality jump.

Can't wait for the flash coming end of this month. Already got a small Olympus bag to go with the camera, so it is light, portable and in theme with the whole Olympus thing. biggrin.gif

Just bought the Panasonic m4/3 45-200mm telephoto zoom lens. Will test it later on the Frankfurt trip.

Bloody YL is poisoning me, they're dangling the FL-14 flash infront of me. cry.gif Money is tight after the lens. sad.gif

How much and where u bought the pana 45-200mm?

I'm interested too. Can't find stock unless order.
*
Bintang Maju in Maju Junction. Got it at Shashinki's price of RM1485. YL is offering me RM1390, but I'm not the type that waits.

End of the month with be a toss-up between FL-36R, or staying in theme with white, with the FL-15 flash. The fact that the FL-15 flash does not tilt is giving me second thoughts. But FL-36R is spoiling the whole look with its stonkin' black color.

u can always get the higher end model later.... =)

Good idea. I've already told myself, never to get myself into DSLRs in the first place, so sticking with the theme seems pretty apt. Good call.

Thanks. How much Bintang Maju offer?

The price is quite steep in Malaysia here, singapore just around $460.

I am thankful that I am not predisposed with the previous experiences using DSLRs and about the transition between the different sizes. My take is that Im more inclined to carry lighter, smaller equipments than bulkier ones. My non-experience on how DSLR pictures and their quality looks like also keeps my expectation low. I'd like to keep it that way.

I'm moving up from PnS so size is basically an easy transition by the way. No chimneys or laser cannons on my chest, no thanks.

Me. *puts money where mouth is*

Another member here also have, just that he don't spend much time in this section. I don't blame him. Learning from him, we're cross-poisoning each other, he poisoned me to finally get into photography, and I just made him purchase his own iPhone 3G[S]. Balances out. tongue.gif

We both have the twin lens kit, his is the silver with black accent, mine is white with tan accent. In addition, i've just got the Panny 45-200mm for my aircraft-in-flight photo-taking opportunities. I've just missed that very chance on my last trip to Paris, when an SQ A380 is cruising below us and I had a clear shot but the 14-42mm lens fall shot of being able to capture the A380 with vaportrail and vortices billowing behind it. Not anymore hopefully, with the 45-200mm.

But don't u think it much larger than PnS since u said u only exposed to PnS only prior to this.
still deciding a G1 or this  laugh.gif

My previous PnS is not that slim anyway. My required "getting the hang of" thing is with the addition of interchangable lens, or the fact that I can fiddle with the zoom/focus manually and physically with the rings, something that had been handled automatically on my previous PnS.

Because it is not a given, it is not a norm. When that happen, the general populace plays it safe by sticking with the safer option:DSLR.

Believe it or not, there are those like me who abhorred and loathe the size of the DSLR, and wants something smaller. There are those who are in the same camp as I am but because of time constraint and pressing need, relented and bedrudgingly went with DSLR because that was the only option available at that time. Those of us who waited for the right form factor to come in, finally get our wish with the E-P1. Those who were in the same camp but went DSLR, there are those who, believe it or not, got their DSLR sold off and went with the E-P1. Our needs was not that much demanding that we needed the DSLR in the first place, just that the step-up after PnS was DSLR and there weren't any other options to choose from there.

The same with camcorders. I wanted a HD camcorder but not with the current hold-it-by-the-barrel monstrosity models in the market, I want something mobile yet with not many sacrifices in terms of performance and quality of the recording result. Enter Xacti HD1010 pistol-grip HD camcorder.

My take? As what I've stated on my sig, get it based on your needs, not just because everyone else picks a model that you have to pick the same model to be on the safe side. I never was a sheep when it comes to my purchasing habits, because my needs are exclusively unique to what I plan to do with these purchases.

Nope. The trolls here will tear my post apart if I do that. I'm happy with my Zen at the moment.

Hey string - some question.

Where did you get your camera from?
how many shots are you getting so far with one battery?
How long the battery needs to recharge?
*
YL Photo. Around 300 shots.I left it charging overnight. There is some residual charge, but the amber light turned blue at less than 2 hours. I left it charging nonetheless. May be buying spare BLS-1 battery for those overzealous moments.

QUOTE(hellfire8888 @ Jul 15 2009, 02:07 PM)
would you please clarify your statement? most noob here would not know the real con of this PEN and i just share those info..so what the matter with that? unless u are not smart enuff to diff between fact n fiction between those line from my blog.
*
Your supposed "con" are contrived and trivial to me. To keep the E-P1 within its form factors, some of the things you posted there, needs to be sacrificed. But not to a point where it encroaches and impacts the usage and performance of the camera itself. Your post at that blog sounds more like excuses you are making for not wanting to buy the camera.

Anyway, THIS is the reason why I'd rather keep things mum, than anything else. I left my BLS-1 battery pack to charge my posting power back at home, so I don't have the energy or interest to deal with things like this.

Then you shouldn't have tagged the title of that blog article as "Bad and Lousy" unless you are fishing for angry responses. I usually dont response to these "baits" but it was posted here, and it was my mistake to even click the link and continue reading it.

If it is meant as your own personal "deterrent" to not get poisoned into getting the E-P1, then I totally get what you mean, but it should be labelled appropriately on the title. But if it is meant as a "bait" to fish angry responses, well...I rest my case.

This will be my last response to this, I dont want to drag this further. The thread is about the E-P1, not about trivial arguments between two strangers.

Xandman & Seaotter,

If you like, I can let you try it out this Friday. I have to be at KLIA early in the morning (7am) to pick up a unit of iPhone 3G[S], and I should be free the entire day after that. I need all the pointers I can get, and I want to learn. You will be surprised how much of a noob I am when it comes to photography.

We can set the meet-up at a venue convenient for everyone, and you pros can test it out, and I'll learn from you guys. I know how to make "this thing blur" here, and "that thing clear there" but that is probably the extent of my skills. sad.gif

Only this Friday I'm free. Tomorrow got a course in Kelana Jaya, and Saturday I'm off to Frankfurt. So, your call.

String, do u find the clip(use to attach the strap) get on the way u hold the camera?

I try and abit uncomfortable as it block my palm.
*
It does actually. The section that attaches to the clip does get entangled sometimes. I'm waiting for September for the white strap + holster combo as per my avatar, it looks elegant that way. It made me extra clumsier as my palm is prone to sweating when I'm trying to compose a shot. Are there any other options that is much better than the included strap? I was informed that metal clip-ons is a no-no that it may be prone to breakage, plus the clink from the metal-on-metal may slip into your movie recording. Hand strap maybe? But I dont know if there are any that is compatible with the E-P1.

Guys, need recommendations. External flash, that is preferably, compatible with the Oly E-P1 AND Panny GH1. Got my GH1 well below the atrocious pricetag quoted in Malaysia.

The Metz Mecablitz flash recommended earlier looks good, price/size/performance ratio-wise. I'd like to avoid FL-50 size if I can, but am not totally disregarding it as a possible choice. Panny flashes are just simply too expensive for me.

Sorry for the previous mention of me providing access to E-P1 sample pictures, and not providing them promptly. Something important is happening in my life that I've decided against lingering in LYN forum as frequent as before. Nevertheless I see that even without these samples, that two prospective buyers have crossed over and purchased it anyway. tongue.gif

Apprecuare the flash recommendations, thank you in advance.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Bought the FL-36R, works fine on both the E-P1 and GH1.

The closest lens i can recommend would be the 14-140 from panasonic.
UNFORTUNATELY.... that lense is as rare as a dodo around these parts.

Costs about 300 USD, if you can find it la
*
Sad truth unfortunately. Got mine together with the GH1, and had a blast with it since. The GH1 had been with me to to Universal Studios Japan Osaka, and the Vatican City 3 days back. 1080p24 video of Magical Starlight Parade at Universal's, hell, the GH1 even went up with me to the very top of St. Peter's cupola at the Basilica, breathtaking view of ancient Rome 360 degrees around.

Pardon the IQ, taken with the iPhone.

Next stop, the GF1. Was thinking of using the funds I had for the Panasonic UWA m4/3, but since this news broke, that will have to wait. Probably gonna get the package with the prime/pancake. If it is made available by the end of this month in Japan, I could possibly get one from Yodobashi Camera in Osaka. Otherwise, will just have to wait till it's available here. Thinking very hard of ditching the E-P1 sans the lenses and going all Panasonic with the GF1. The E-P1 had been relegated to my backup camera since I had the GH1.
