Hi all sifu, I'd like to ask for your opinion on my car's matter. When I'm trying to accelerate hard, eg. Rev from 2K RPM to 6K rpm, inside my car will have a smell like as if when we're driving fast and we brake hard that sort of smell(smell of the brakes). What could the problem roughly be?

TY for all sifu for ur help rclxms.gif

the smell is about the same as when we're speeding and we brake hard that sort of smell from the brakes but it's from the engine instead

either brake smell or clutch smell...

if brake smell, check calipers got jammed or not... does ur car feels heavy during acceleration??...

if clutch smell, could be clutch slip... when was the last time u changed ur clutch pad??... any vibrations on ur clutch pedal during hard acceleration??..

ooo... auto car ah...

first, open ur bonnet and check for any fluid leaks which could drip on hot surface, causing the strange burning smell....

definitely not electrical bro. it have some sort of smell similar to brakes. the smell coming from within engine compartment i believe as all windows are closed. slow acceleration no such smell only when i accelerate hard have this smell.

same goes here..my family owned a Honda City iDSi..as u all know d iDSi doesnt pack a punch when pedal to d metal, but strangely, my cabin is filled with "some sort of engine smell" when i rev it hard..it only disappear when i change d air intake to d aircond from "recycle" to d outside air (i mean the knob there)..

been to Honda's authorized SC for 5 times, it doesnt solve the problem + money terbang..still have d smell that would eventually kill my family..

now my family is looking forward 2 change d Honda to a Proton as d problem cant be fixed by d SC themselves...it really saddens me as here in FnF really looked high on Honda...

any solution b4 i dump for a Proton?..

i think its something wrong with the air circulation setting...(the button whether circulate inside only or both).....or also maybe leakage on the firewall??(guess only)....

My bet is that its a slipping clutch causing the smell, friends waja had the same problem and he ended up converting it to manual.

Definitely have it checked out.

..slipped gears in auto transmission is related to ATF. TS should notice harsh gear shifting if this is the issue.
since the smell came from engine compartment, why don't TS go for an engine wash? might able to dissolve any spilled lubricant, if there's any.

I think you should check the aircond compressor's clutch, maybe it's slipping. one more thing is, you should check crank pulley, maybe the rubber damper already peel off causing it to slip.

Intermediate car mechanic here.

if smells like rubber burning, most probably the belts brushed against the mounting (the round thing that holds the belt in place and oso moves the belt). u have to check this on the alternator, air-cond compressor and oso ur timing belt. faulty bearings on the mountings can also cause this problem.

good luck in doing thorough inspection! brows.gif

My car also have this weird smell, not engine smell or brake.

it just disappear for let say few weeks or mths & reappear again.

Even with aircon OFF & Door window down.

Must be the catalytic converter! I had the same problem on my smart until I remove it permanently.

U see, all vehicle cabin are not 100% sealed and odour from outside will seep in.

Depends. On some cars with dual O2 sensors, Check Engine warning will come on if the rear sensor is not position properly.

If your car only has 1 sensor (usually at the exhaust manifold), removing the cat won't harm it. It will however harm the environment (but who cares anyway). After the decat process, u may get 10-15% power gain.
