My FR:

1. Package arrived in very good condition. Kudos to Xtreamer for its good packaging.
2. Set up the unit, connected my ext. HDD and wah la, unit is up and running. rclxm9.gif
3. Setting up wireless connection was a breeze, nothing rocket science.
4. Navigating to its menu has some lag (you will feel it but not annoying). About the same feeling as navigating through the WDTV, albeit slightly faster.
5. Checked out some MKV and AVI movies. Worked superbly! icon_rolleyes.gif

The wait was definitely worth its while (so far) and looking forward to try out the new internet channels and the rest of the features. Too bad I don't have any MKV with HD audio. Will try to get hold of at least one and try it out. Must see whether it allows pass through to AVR for decoding. thumbup.gif

Apart from that, I think the unit is really neat looking, sleek and pretty good finish (sturdier than WDTV, IMHO). whistling.gif

A bit more review...
After using the unit for some movies, personally I didn't notice the fan noise. I guess it was no issue for me. I have also dabbled with the internet feature on the unit. Pretty neat if you want to browse for YouTube, news, traliers, etc. on your TV screen. No real issue with streaming YouTube on it (I'm running only a G WiFi). I am also able to access all my home network devices (1 PC, 1 laptop, 1 MyBook World Edition) without any noticeable issue. Like this feature whereby I am able to view photos on the Xtreamer on my TV screen. Of course I have been enjoying this already on the PS3 and Xbox.

My kids absolutely liked it thoroughly as I have a fair bit of kids movies and TV series (mostly DVD quality though). Now just need to make sure that they don't spend too much time on the TV! hmm.gif

BTW, the firmware is the latest 1.0.2. I actually thought I had to update the firmware before I could use it.

All-in-all, I am happy with the Xtreamer.

BTW, yupio, my package was routed through DHL's HK hub. Surprised that yours landed in Bangkok. Hope you get yours very soon.

I'm running wireless G only. So no point trying. Bandwidth simply cannot handle.

G won't be able to stream properly?  hmm.gif
btw, if u have the HD-audio files
can just use free software to mux it into m2ts smile.gif

I think for HD content, G will not be able to handle it. I read this somewhere in the Xtreamer forums.

I think by now their delivery period should have improved as they should have stocks now. Otherwise, if you were like batch #2 orders (which I was previleged to be in), you should get your unit between 1.5 - 2 months from the date of your order. whistling.gif

Can someone confirm if the Xtreamer plays BD iso files? I checked the specs on the website but no such details. hmm.gif

Here's a YouTube video on how to install XSC into Xtreamer.

It will make Xtreamer a silent player.

Is it available locally? If so, how much?

At the moment, I cannot hear the fan noise from my Xtreamer (doesn't bother me at all) but will consider this to cool down the Xtreamer which can be quite hot after playing for a while. rolleyes.gif

Yes, it will work even though you don't install an internal HDD.

A friend of mine told me that he read somewhere in LYN forum that Realtek may not be able to get the license from DTS and Dolby for the HD audio passthrough and this would mean that Xtreamer will be affected as well. Anyone can confirm this rumour or fact? cry.gif

DTS HD Master Audio will not be downmix. It will play DTS Core Audio with 5.1 output. For Dolby True HD, I'm not sure coz I do not have the equipment to test it out.
*
For Dolby TrueHD, the decoding/downmix is inconsistent. My experience is that the audio channels get completely mixed up whereby there is no sound on the subwoofer and even centre speaker. That was with FW2.2, so not sure if they have fixed it with the latest FW.

Dun worry bro, this time Xtreamer pre-printed on the packing means they have confidence to make it available. thumbup.gif

They did the same when they launch the Xtreamer a year ago. Also in the specs and I bought it soley for this feature and they failed. Be careful, they are known for empty promises. brows.gif Suggest to wait for the new firmware which claims to enable this feature. whistling.gif

for those who have Original Blu-Ray Ripped contents which come with DTSMA / DorbyTrue HD Audio Codec and when you playback using Xtreamer Pro with any latest amplifier which support DTSMA/Dorby TrueHD (I'm using Denon AVR-1909) it will decode as DTS 96/24 which nearly to DTSMA quality and the surround sound quality definitely better than normal DTS 5.1.

Quality just nearly to DTSMA

Nearly DTS HD MA is not DTS HD MA. There is a difference. So Xtreamer Pro is nearly there. My experience with Xtreamer is that there has been many nearly there but never got there. Xtreamer is no doubt a good product except for this feature which remains elusive. Yes, this new Pro with the new Realtek chip should allow HD audio passthrough but it should have been enabled at launch date not another firmware update.

Other media players like HDX BD-1 and Dune Prime 3.0 have HD audio passthrough on day of launch but not Xtreamer. So be weary of this promise. rclxub.gif

For consumer like us, we buy stuff from vendor, so we complaint to the vendor, we don't care who is behind the vendor, because it's the vendor responsibility to deliver the promises. Xtreamer did say they can do DTS-HD MA bitstreaming in the beginning and stated it in their web site (of course now they have removed it after they realized they cannot deliver it).
*
Exactly what I wanted to share. When the Xtreamer was introduced last year, HD audio passthrough was heavily advertised on their website and when they couldn't deliver it, they removed this from the product specs listing. mad.gif

I was one of many customers who bought the device for HD audio passthrough and after numerous bombarding at their forum (which their mods deleted/locked many posts inclduing mine), they finally removed this from the specs. vmad.gif

They are trying to redeem themselves now and hopefully they succeed as the product is good and pricing is attractive for its features. Definitely worth considering if they live up to their promises. nod.gif

Just PM me with the message: "SURE!" haha! No worries. Just trying my luck.

Please give us your review once you have tested the unit. If the HD Audio works, it's a pretty good value-for-money player! brows.gif I know of someone who is waiting to try this unit out! nod.gif
