TOKYO, Nov 20, 2009 (AFP) - Sony Corp. aims to launch next year a new online service that will allow people to download content such as music and movies to their televisions and other electronic gadgets, a top executive said Friday.

The move is part of chief executive Howard Stringer's goal of converging Sony's strengths in electronics, such as Bravia televisions and PlayStation game consoles, and content generated by its movie studio and music label.

"This is something I'd like to get off the ground as quickly as possible," said Sony executive vice president Kazuo Hirai, who also heads the company's game division.

The company aims to get the service up and running in 2010 "and earlier in the year would be obviously a lot more preferable in my mind", he said.

While the service is still under development, it may offer users features related to health and fitness or banking, as well as content downloads and the chance to share photos or home movies online.

"One of the things we really need to get into is the whole concept of user-driven content," Hirai said in an interview.

"There already are a lot of services out there but we want to try to bring something that is uniquely Sony to the experience."

The company aims to introduce "evolving" television that delivers new applications over the Internet to people's TV sets.

While some services through the online service may be free-of-charge, users will have to pay for others, possibly paying a subscription for a bundle of premium content.

The service will build on Sony's PlayStation Network system, which already has 33 million registered users and allows owners of the video game console to download games and link up with other gamers.

Hirai said Sony also has high hopes for three-dimensional video games that are expected to appear after Sony launches 3D televisions next year.

"I'm a firm believer in 3D. It really does enhance the game playing experience. There's no question about it. It just makes it more exciting," he said.

Firmware 3.10 lets PS3 users report errors directly to Sony



Sometimes we do crazy things -- in this case, it's something crazy for you, dear reader. You see, when PS3 Attitude reported users who had run into freezes or other bouts of unsatisfactory performance from their PS3 could report the issue to Sony thanks to firmware 3.10, directly through their console, we thought it was something we'd try to recreate on our own. After scratching our noggin for a few minutes, trying to come up with the best way to put our PS3 into danger, we figured a swift and hard power-down via the back toggle switch on the console would be the best bet to trigger this supposed new error report system. Lo and behold, we received the message you see above.

So that's new, right? After winning that battle in the war of trying to break our PS3, we then decided to pick up our console and shake it like some kind of crazed British nanny, but that did not get us the results we were looking for. As such, we contacted Sony and a spokesperson told us that, yes, firmware 3.10 does add a feature to the console where users can report issues following console freezes and the like. So, now you know!

random freeze during playtime is normal, that's why Sony add how to deal this problem in manual, so don't worry too much then, but make sure take note on when this problem happens to your console

regarding about new fw, so far no prob

what manual?? is there a manual how to solve if freeze?? please enlightened me

freezes usually occured when u’re trying to do something while the game is loading/saving, eg while loading u push the PS buton, or u quit. Some games r fussy that way while some r not. My experience  were with AC1 and Batman AA where it freezes on me if i did those things. (On old fw)

Other games r ok though.

so far any dudes here got problem after installing the new FW 3.10?

Mine is a FAT Ps3 singapore set white 40GB
i was using 3.01 previously read about the YLOd so decided to play 1 hour max for rockband daily.

Today just found out got FW3.10 so download and install, everything was fine can login into PS store and stuff, then started playing rockband.

After 45 mins of playing while loading for new song, the game freezes. I press PS button and choose shutdown. suddenly hear beep Ps3 restarted to main page( tension) eject disc and turn off.

My ps3 have never freeze before, not even once. any others have this prob?

happen to me twice after install 3.10FW... .. all becoz shitmyx.. freeze during loading PSN list and MW2 match... .. now ok jek...
