Didn't know the dino bit in at the start of the Thunder map clip was a punt from Dice. Kinda like those satire BC2 videos.

QUOTE(wilsonphua @ Jun 10 2011, 11:15 PM) Basically by the sound of it, the CEO of Activision, like many of us, is extremely intrigued and drooling over BF3 . So he sent his PA to arrange for an in depth tech demo, to which EA politely declined. No dinosaur for you Activision. |

Not sure about that Luft. Did you try the realistic mod ? It's pretty intense. Imo the Crytek 1 engine is probably the closest we have to the most realistic renderer for us gamers. Watch the videos below. The first video at about 2:50 mark onwards is perhaps one of the most beautifully rendered scenery i've ever seen in games.
ps: watch in HD. |

QUOTE(Luftwacko @ Jun 11 2011, 10:38 AM) Pretty much justifies my point. The graphics is so unrealistically beautiful it makes real life look ugly. Well at the end of the day all objects in games are fake, unless we want to see games like the old SWAT where they copy paste real like photo scenes/objects. Its just a matter of how much you can sustain a suspension of disbelief.Just look at the 2nd vid. The banana leaves are so glossy I can almost use them as a mirror. Beautiful ≠ realistic. And Crysis tends to lean toward the former than latter. |

Awesome analysis, it brought up few things i missed. The music brings back the not so fond memories of waiting for eons to connect to servers.

QUOTE(avex|mode @ Jun 13 2011, 09:55 AM) Come on ppl. Vote, vote. Don't turn our BF3 into COD/MW3. Can't believe there's an outcry over these so called 'exclusive' items. It seems a bit more of consolation offer rather 'exclusive'. Type 88 and DAO shotty ? Would you actually pay for these items ? Are these weapons that big of a game breaker ? Not in most fps that I've played and i don't think DICE and EA are fool enough to allow certain items to unbalance the game. The only unethical thing, imo, is that they try to urge people to buy the pre order with these meh offers.http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/6801802.page This post has been edited by hfi: Jun 13 2011, 01:09 PM |

QUOTE(Everdying @ Jun 13 2011, 03:19 PM) but hes using what looks like the M4...and we all know thats the spec ops rifle in BF2. Yeah traditionally, only spec ops uses the m4. but since got no mention yet of M4 in BF3, just assume its a fully auto M16...which would be the assault class? no? and hes got a rocket launcher... Added on June 13, 2011, 3:29 pmnm la...im just waiting to see what jets will be announced But in this video at about 6:00 mark, you can see an engineer equipped with an M4A1 getting a kill. I'm thinking only Assault class can attach scope and tuber on their rifle. This post has been edited by hfi: Jun 13 2011, 03:44 PM |

It's called depth of field. Your eyes already have this effect when focusing on a particular point. But aesthetically, it does look very nice. I'm pretty sure Crysis had this effect when you take aim. The feature is actually quite demanding on the video card, especially non dx11 cards.

QUOTE(bakamund @ Jun 14 2011, 08:32 PM) My points was that if you DONT buy the pack, can u still UNLOCK those weapons/add-ons in the game? The exclusive items are the type 88, flash suppressor and ammo mod for the DAO. Meaning you cannot get these items unless you preorder it from certain retailers. The DAO itself is unlocked at lvl 1 but others will still be able to unlock it normally. Not as in whether we can buy thm here or not... Like in BC2 limited edition - u unlocked vehicle sensor, AKS47U, etc early but others could still unlock those whn they ranked up. QUOTE(XFX OMAR122 @ Jun 14 2011, 08:38 PM) its still ugly on BF3 look back at the SP footage and the MP They are choosing practicality over aesthetics. DOF is nice, i like it myself but it serves no purpose in FPS. Either you show what's in your peripheral vision or dont show it at all. I don't need to be guessing who just walked into my peripheral view. Besides, DOF is really intense on the card. And when there's explosion and destruction going on in your peripheral vision, the DOF will only compound the amount workload on your card.it should be close than it be now and all side should be blur more like BC2 |

Not sure what you trying to say there. Are you saying DOF doensn't affect the fps ? Because it does. It's a post processing effect like bloom, motion blur, certain type of AA, etc. Why do you even want it in FPS ? Don't you rather want to see what's around you ? When you have your scope out and aiming or even reading this text, your eyes are are already naturally affected by DOF.

I guess is all down to preference. Personally, i don't like the blur or blacking out during ADS. I actually find the distraction quite comforting because it makes it easier to track the next target. Even if i'm not totally focused on the target outside the scope, the little movement at the corner of my eyes is enough for me to gauge where i should next point my rifle. Blacking or bluring out the view kinda disconnect me from what goes on in the battlefield.

I'm afraid DLC is here to stay. In fact, it's already part of the gaming industry and we can try to boycott them but that will only stall them for so long before the consumers become accustom to it and finally accepting it.
Most of the old school gamers who have experienced expansions rather than DLC, don't really like the idea of DLC. It's pricey, gimmicky and sometimes incomplete. But the publishers are not aftering the old school market. They're aftering the kids and newer generation that do not know what game expansions really means. To them DLC, the monthly map and skin release is the expansions. I will be surprised if they pull the plug on these pre order debacle. They saw how futile the boycott was against MW2 and with stornger product, they seem very confident that the majority of kids will buy the game regardless of any boycott that may take place. |

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Jun 17 2011, 11:34 AM) I actually got a custom made DoW1 shirt from lowyat.net. Its amazing too but it's freaking expensive. RM50 for a t-shirt, but it look awesome and very comfortable too. Just saw the PS3 Fault Line demo on Fellon show. Notice instantly the graphics have been toned down which is to be expected. The lack of shadow, decals and lightings is pretty obvious. Gameplay looking smooth tho.By the way, DICE is showing off console footage soon. |

I don't really care much about having the top notch graphics. I actually play BC2 on PS3 as it's easier to group up with friends etc. I still find the PS3 BC2 graphics acceptable, tho i find the lack of AA is rather annoying. But looking at the PS3 BF3, there's a significant amount of AA in the demo which makes objects look a lot nicer - a very welcoming sight.
Edit: My bro just spotted something in that demo, how come the dude is using a red dot attachment as opposed to the ACOG in the PC demo. This post has been edited by hfi: Jun 17 2011, 03:03 PM |

Yeah i'm thinking its the type of antialiasing they are using. Possibly MLAA, it provides efficient low cost AA but at the cost of making objects looking a it blurry. Like in Witcher 2 or Shogun 2.
