The Eee Wii? Weee?

Not only is Asus trying to beat Apple in the innovative design department, it seems to be thinking of going after Nintendo in the video game console segment too.


According to comments made by Jonathan Tsang, the vice chairman of Asus, in an interview with the New York Times, the Taiwanese computer maker has ‘polished off’ a video game system it claims can rival the Wii.


“We have a product we think is better than the Wii,” Tsang said. “But the content is complicated.”


Asus claims to have developed a system that has controllers that reflect motion better than the Wii controllers (although the playing field may have changed with Wii MotionPlus or even Sony’s PlayStation Motion Controller).


Asus’s problem isn’t with the hardware, given its systems design and production know-how, but rather getting the software support. A console is only as good as the games it plays, and right now Asus doesn’t have the games.


“Sometimes it is a chicken-and-egg problem,” Tsang added. “We don’t have the chicken, so cannot have the egg.”


Tsang also revealed that Asus has an e-book reader ready as well, but faces the same problem of not having content providers.

This is certainly no Phantom console.

From a strictly business point of view, the one that makes the most money wins.

M$ can use $$ to bribe game developers
Sony and Nintendo have their own in house game productions

i rather see Sega make a comeback rather than see Asus join the Console market. but that just my wishful thinking

SEGA sucks. They made dodgy bad hardware decisions and arcade games that gets boring within an hour.

Before you say anything, i owns a Megadrive, Saturn and Dreamcast(now sold..crappiest piece of console ever with hardly any good games).

Maybe ASUS can bring all those Taiwainese RPG games to the English speaking world...i would love to play those RPGs...but can't read chinese.

Asus can offer ASUS ROG Wee Wee...premium price that suits ASUS fanboi...

Saturn hardware are better than PS1.
It just the devoloper didn't support it as developing games for PS1 are cheaper and easier compared to Saturn.
Dreamcast still rocks till today. Games and design !

Asus Cant compete with wii ..asus is still too young in gaming platform industry.. Nitendo will atleast pawn Asus ! if he out 1 haha

Still haven't wake up with the Saturn 2-processor better than 1 hype? FYI, the 2nd Hitachi CPU in the Saturn was a last minute slapped on when SEGA realized how behind it is behind the PS1. They were pratically peeing in their pants when they saw the PS1. The 2nd Hitachi CPU last minute design was pretty much confirmed given where it was layout in the PCB board. You simply can't hide a last minute slap-on.

And in the end, it's not "developer didn't support". It's simply inferior 3D hardware and was designed as a powerful 2D hardware when 2D is so last-generation. The Saturn never could do impressive 3D graphics like PSX with true transparency, light sourcing, with higher polygon counts, which were all the rage those days. Even the best at SEGA then...AM2, Sonic Team, could only show graphics that is better than most 3rd party but still inferior to the PSX.
