YOu can try to using heat pump if you are building your house. I intend to do that if one day i get the chance to build my house. Also, a whole house fan is great as well. Plant more trees! Cross ventilation.

there's something called 'insulator'.. check it out.
something that is placed between your house ceiling and the roof. imho, it's more practical than those roof coating (which will wear off much quickly due to exposure to harsh weather) This post has been edited by lwb: Jun 7 2009, 09:40 PM |

You can try to build a green house.
With green plants covering it, not glass. |

QUOTE(HW-Racer @ Jun 6 2009, 05:30 PM) with the current hot weather spell... I was thinking of how to make my new house (currently it's an uncommon way of thinking ... but kudos for the thought ....under contruction) cooler (without the use of air-con) ? any suggestions ? heard that some kind of chemical sprayed on the roof make it cooler by 1 to 2 celcious, also read in the paper the monier roof tiles reflect heat, install thicker curtain, etc... please give some suggestion on effective way to make our house cooler... normally in US tropical countries ... they use heat exchanger pipes (u know how radiator works) placed in under the earth (which the temp is around cooling 20°c) to circulate the cool earth temps to the floors of the home like i mentioned earlier ... it's uncommon .... but there are some gree bungalows in malaysia uses this method to cool their home without the high cost of air conditioning ... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « for the top part of the home .... use ducting (aka ventilation) ..... only through ducting is where the heat is efficiently exits the home with directed air .... placing those aluminium rooftop fans will not efficiently divert the heat as the roof is not fully sealed » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « for the roofing ... you can easily insulated them via cheap fibreglass .... but not the labour charge le .... it'll help to reduce those heat from the roof tiles from going into the house » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « and lastly ... the heat reflective paint ... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « actually for the best insulation and reduce cost of cooling is actually from the construction of the home itself ... but malaysia is using those old methods via bricks .... in other countries ... the just use mesh + mortar cement + insulation it's actually more durable to use mortar ... from those designs ... their home is able to withstand level 7 quake without losing a nail and it cuts the cooling cost (heating from winter) up to 50% |

Ways to cool down house without air-conditioning:
1. Radiant Barrier. 2. Install insulator: rockwool, cellulose, fiberglass. 3. Spray reflective coating on tiles. 4. Plant more greens. 5. Paint external house with white color. 6. Live underground. Anymore please share with me. This post has been edited by dreamKrusher: Jul 22 2009, 08:23 PM |

Bright colors are always cooler. Ensure good cross ventilation for the house interior. Some kind of forced ventilation method may be adopted. Adopt some of the suggestions above for good insulation. A high ceiling design would contribute to comfort at the lower strata level in the house. Besides roof insulation, cross ventilation below the roof/above ceiling would be good. Shade all glass windows/doors or use heat reflective coating for the glass surfaces. etc..

After tinting the room, find the room temperature is lower (cooler) but not up to my expectatation. The remaining heat is from roof (penerate thru the ceiling).Anyone here have installed a suction fan to suck out the hot air between roof & ceiling, does it help ? (In my old house, installed roof ventilator (wind powered) but find it not so effective) |
