Hi,

I am just wondering in which direction is Square Enix gonna go cause I love Final Fantasy series, Tales series is good too. Initially, I considered the fact that RPG is the more popular genre in Japan and FPS over in US / UK. However, at the current E3, Square Enix (FF series) seems to be going multiplatform, so is Kojima Productions (MGS series) Which of the current consoles offer more titles in terms of RPG gaming?

I have no idea, but 360 got Tales, FF, Star Ocean and some other multiplats.
A lot of RPG collection in 360.
But, considering PS3 are well-known for RPG, theres your answer, PS3.

If you want to play now, 360. If you can wait, either 360 or PS3.

I dont see a reason why people are flaming others just to acknowledge they have the better console. I, for one, could not care less about the consoles.

I'm more towards gaming genre and my taste is RPG.

Which Tales RPG does the xbox 360 has? Interesting!

360 has Tales of Vesperia, and PS3 has the enhanced version of it. Same goes to Eternal Sonata, 360 out first, but PS3 got enhanced version later on. The 360's RPGs future look bleak though.. can't remember any RPG coming out soon. PS3 have quite a few to look forward to, but only White Knight Chronicles and the FF's are better known.

Anyway, currently Microsoft are trying to attract Japanese attention, so expect more JRPG in the future.
Enhanced version or not, it's the same game.

Um, which RPG are you referring to? the Fable kind or Japanese RPG?
If RPG, there's ton of it, Mass-Effect are considered RPG no?

If you bother reading the first post TS was obviously interested in JRPG

a lot of RPGs on PS2. you can never go wrong there.

It sure does As a matter of fact I'm busy looking for the RPGs I missed out on PS2

I'm into the Japanese RPG type. Final Fantasy, Tales series, Star Ocean, Suikoden, Breath of Fire, Disgaea, Front Mission, etc.. Not the english ones.

I play Metal Gear Solid and Grand Theft Auto too. Only these popular games.

I've heard some of the JRPG titles are out only in Xbox, that's tempting and MGS Rising and Star Ocean: Lost / Last Hope also Xbox exclusive. Temptation is strong there. Square Enix's so called betrayal by some people when they announce FFXIII going to Xbox is kinda hinting us gamers that Square is trying to pierce through the AM / EU market of JRPG.

At the same time, am aware that Square Enix will probably lean more towards their homeland, Sony's PS3, therefore may have more title to this console?

By the way, I have Wii. Is the One Piece a good game? Additionally, I had PS2 but I sold it. Didnt manage to finish FFXII, therefore now borrowing friend's PS2 to play.

Anyway MGS Rising isn't exclusive. FFXIV (not traditional RPG either) is PS3 exclusive console wise IIRC. But you are right on SO4, it's exclusive so far.

I know MGS Risiing is not exclusive but so far, Kojima productions had not made anything for Xbox, yes? The sudden move of this year's E3 scares me. I just want to play some game by these great game companies. Hope I make the right choice.

Trust me, whichever console that you end up with, PS3,360 or Wii, it wont disappoint you.

About SquareEnix going multiplatform, only fanboys says it's betrayal. I've read some article at some website;

Well, yeah it probably wont disappoint me but like everyone else here, I just want to enjoy a genre I like - JRPG.

It's not so much of a betrayal and fanboyism but they probably felt like paying RM200 for the original game for PS3 while you can get the same for 10% of the price in 360. Sakit hati only, they will get over it over time. I hope.

actually they already made MGS2:Substance for XBOX.

Too much focus on innovation for Wii, while 360/PS3 provides bunch of more traditional style games.

In terms of Japanese RPG, I would hav to say PS3, no doubt.

but NDS have those killer RPGs dragon quest & FF remake... what SquareEnix RPG does PS3 have at the moment?

I cannot have NDS because I have PSP. Dont wanna get another handheld console for gaming. Even for PSP, I seldom play - kinda feel I wasted money there.

Square Enix just announced FFXIII and FFXIV for PS3 (and other consoles too).

Problem is I dont see too many JRPG in PS3 now. Still contemplating, especially the games are all original, thus expensive.

Get ready with your flame suit and shield.

Buy both console better lah... no need headache so much, many member here also end up got all the 3 latest gen console, but mostly only willing to support 1 console with original copy.

NDS is the choice for RPG.
360 is decent when i comes to RPG offering as well.

Quite true.. already set for playing pirated copies then why bother asking?

Go for Xbox 360 imo. Looking at the trend, better RPG games are yet to come. The best JRPG titles are multi-plat now anyway. And you can guarantee that trend in the future. Seeing how you are choosing to purchase only 1 console instead of all three, or even two, i'd reckon you are budget constrained. Xbox360 has an advantage there....

Oh, and inb4urapiratefag comments, I only own 1 console - ps3. I made that jump not because I'm rich or a Sony fanboi, but because they had good exclusive titles... (note - past tense).

I would like to recommend that you buy both consoles since you are not losing anything if you have both 360 and PS3.

But I suggest that, as for starter, buy 360 first since most of the current JRPG games are often out to 360. PS3 can be wait later on because the best & wellknown JRPGs mostly may be out earlier next year UNLESS you dun mind to try new exclusive ps3 title like White Knight Chronicles, Valkyrie Chronicles, Demon Soul, etc. etc while waiting for next year. Heck, as a bonus you can have MGS4 also.

Yea, it's not like I'd run out and get a PS3 immediately. I am looking at something around Christmas but at the same time, I noticed that PS3's console is always minusing off this and that, example last time it supported PS2 games and now not. It used to have more USB ports but now less. That sort of thing.

It's ok to go with 3 consoles. I already own a Wii which I bought in Feb 09. 360 for the consoles and games are cheaps. PS3 for exclusive titles only. For games like Fallout 3, available on PC, I wont even dream getting the PS3 version.

All in all, budget is indeed a constraint but I am trying to limit my scope to the games that will be available. All is good if only I know where Square Enix is headed.

I am not rushing ,therefore, I'm not going with the current titles - nothing interest me but the fact that PS3 is Blu-Ray and 360 is DVD makes me lean towards PS3 more and at the moment, that is the ONLY reason.

Speaking on which, HD-DVd lost the media battle, so does MS have any plans moving 360 to Blu-Ray tech? I thought I heard that rumor once many months back but no concrete facts. Anyone here might know?
